Your skills are no match for the 1st and 3rd (maybe 2nd) but I think they just had a bit more to the the composition than yours.
Anyways, congratulations and may you do even better in future.
Simple and undetailed works are easy for composition and color harmony which is i'm not interested and not fun at all. Judges choose similar styles as theirs. I'm starting to understand why a lot of artists doesn't enter contests even though prizes are good.
I never thought of it like that but I think you're right.
At least we know we did our best, there's nothing we could do about the result.
