Yep, guessed so. :)

Except for the signature, everything else is a "raw fractal" made in Apophysis.

Yep, it's elliptic splits with a couple tweaks to make it look less "common".

No crop here, just bent2 to mirror left plane onto right, then curl to make it round, then murl to make it oval.

That's the easy part though. The sparks, lighting and blur were the hard part. :)

Thanks! :)
The math itself is comparatively simple actually.
This is a usual hexagonal tiling, similar to classic M. C. Escher lizards, which was transformed into polar coordinates, and then shifted using complex numbers so that both 0 and Infinity are visible.
These "polar coordinates" and "complex number" transformations can be easily done in application called Apophysis (using transformation called "foci"), but hard part would be to create these lizard shapes there.

Thanks for your comment!

plangkye managed to repeat the most complex part of this picture. The difference between mine 35 xforms and her 10 is basically just shadows and curls to make the picture look more "realistic".
post_smartcrop is used for most of the tricks here, so I'd recommend to pay more attention to how it's used, if you want to understand how this picture works. Please note that some smartcrop modes may behave incorrectly in Chaotica, so Apo is recommended for this specific transformation.

Good luck! :)
