WaspLand ~ 2026 by zulumike WaspLand ~ 2026 by zulumike
Things are not well in Kansas, ever since they started burying radioactive waste into the ground, the enviorment has drastically changed. The effect on all living organisms have created havoc in certain areas of Kansas. Beware of "Waspland" it is a "No Fly Zone".

I was inspired the other day as I was eliminating wasps around my house. Now I am submitting my first sci-fi / horror composition. This was a labor of love and worked was completed after 12 hrs. The lighting effect and details was a big learning curve for on this project.

The AC models are from SimV downloads for FSX. The old house and silo structures are from my personal photos, the wasps are from National Geograhic phot library. Sky and grass textures from free web sites. Thanks for looking.

Cheers, Mike

Even though this is a fantastical scene, insects raids where actually a major problem for rural white settlers in the Great Plains after the Indian Raids and Ecological Vandalism of the grasslands into a homogeneous monoculture of wheat/corn cash crops to the irrigation efforts of The New Deal to come the extreme's of the 1930's dust bowl.

Thanks Graham,

I am moving in many direction. I am trying different subjects. I am inspired by the artwork. I like it all.

I am the type that gets consumed and sometimes I need to step back.

Do you ever get that way with your artwork?

I know I will find a niche where I feel comfortable.

Aviation Art will always be my first love of art.

Cheers, Mike

I find it very easy to get absorbed in my artwork, much to my wife's chagrin ;) I find it frustrating when I have a particular image in my head, but lack the skill to put it on screen. So I tend to bang my head against it until I get at least something that resembles what I want.
I love the sci fi side of things, always have since a child growing up on a diet of pulp and classic sci fi novels picked up from around the world by my Father who was in the merchant navy. The garish book cover art by artists such as Chris Foss, Kelly Freas etc grabbed my attention and have always been a favourite. Aviation art comes a close second, nothing is more beautiful than an aircraft in flight. Whilst others depict action scenes I prefer the more simpler understated "beauty shots".
I would love to be able to do some character based work for which Daz 3D is ideal but find the user interface to be less than intuitive.
I'm sure you will find your niche as well, especially as your skill set grows.

Graham
