Fire City by zulumike Fire City by zulumike
They came in the year 2036 from "Serpens Draco" destroying St. Louis and heading up the Mississipi River toward Chicago, their next target. Traveling in hypervelocity vehicles they should arrive in 25 seconds. Can they be stopped? Stay tuned.

This project is my first matte painting. I am familiar with both great cities mentioned. Based on many personal photos of the skyline. Looking west from the Illinois side. Thanks for looking.

Cheers, Mike

Yes, St. Louis is a very fragile place for air raid attacks, but it's a nice looking piece none the less. Here's a video that talks about the decay of the city.  www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZfVgXc…

Yes, you have my permission to use my artwork with credit.

"Fire City" was a concept illustration I was trying to develop into a story about the destruction of Earth. Take a look at "Defending Chicago", it ties into "Fire City".

I live in Decatur, Il approx. halfway between St. Louis and Chicago And my sons live in these cities.

Thank you for accepting my work.

Cheers, Mike

Thank You. Appreciate the feedback.

Working with reds, oranges, grays and violets was a challenge for me on this project. I have about ten edits on the bg. I finally subdued the reds and oranges to my final edits.

Cheers, Mike

At least now they have a reason to rebuild that %$*# I-70 bridge crossing the Mississippi.

I have been following the construction of the new bridge. It should have been built 20 years ago.

How very true.
The last time I came through I had thought they were going to tear down the old warehouses by the east bound ramp from I-55N to I-70E, to improve traffic flow, but I saw that they were becoming condos. I guess the greed was more important than the need.

I have been following the new I-70 Bridge construction, very interesting.

Of course Illinois got the shaft again for the cost of the Bridge: $313 million IL, $115 million Mo. & Fed 236 mil.

The Gateway Arch, or Gateway to the West, is an arch that is the centerpiece of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial in St. Louis, Missouri. It was built as a monument to the westward expansion of the United States. At 630 feet it is the tallest man-made monument in the United States.

I would guess by 2036 Chicago would already be a wasteland...

Good point. I live between Chicago (180 mi) and St. Louis (140 mi) in Decatur, Il. I do prefered St Louis visit rather than Chicago. But both cities are crime ridden in the inner cities. All are great cities are slowly decaying.

The cities are in decay because the people are...

Pray hard for our world!

All the best Mike!
