More of that dreaded novel concept art... :paranoid:

Crap, this was difficult. x| It started off as one of those 'let's scribble some tosh into a wonky perspective' thingies, and I was almost sure it was going to end up in the recycle bin. But after changing the details and colors a couple of times, I decided to finish it. May be hideously askew since I have rarely drawn humanoid shapes into anything other than the flat perspective. And this was a three-point one which I have not used much either erenow. :dead:

Anyway, it's Tghuonegh'err, Lord of the Underworld of Rha-kan'Ocka again. Your basic immortal type akin to Hades, etc. Even though he's in charge of the domain of the dead and is ten times uglier than Lord Khran-Av'ees, that doesn't automatically make him an evil dude. It's just a job description. He likes pretty sparkly things, breeds pedigree Kerberoses in his famed kennel, and on his free time enjoys playing minigolf with his wife and kiddies.

And since people tend to ask these things, Tghuonegh'err is shamelessly twisted from the Finnish Tuonenherra.

The Curse of Rha-kan'Ocka belongs to me.

There's something about your drawings which reminds me of Sumerian men.

Very cool. I love the amount of detail that you've put into this picture, it turned out well. Especially with such a difficult perspective.

The only thing that I can think of that bothers me is the way his head connects with his chest - perhaps it's just his hair confusing me, but it seems like his head is a little off and sitting rather high. Either that or he's got craaaaaazy pecs that are jutting way out there.

Still, a fantastic image. I quite enjoy the hairstyle, it reminds me of a Mesopotamian king or such, ala Hammurabi.

It *may* be a little off -- I digipaint with the aid of an old CRT, and while those displays show the colors right, they possess the hindside of slight distortion. Also, the body structures of these creatures are a wee bit differently proportioned compared to normal humans. I've drawn some charts.

Thanks :)

Nice. Give him a myspace page, jk, but I think it'd be interesting, the big lord of the underworld's mypace. Okay maybe I shouldn't think about that, I like the toes of hiss boots, 'cuz if you thought getitng kicked with a steel toed boot was bad...

Job well done.

Wow, the perspective is great---I love how tall the ceiling is (it sort of reverse-freaks out my fear of heights!) Great work!

I know that there is no connexion whatsoever, but he looks so much like Morgoth! Especially with the blue crystal...

Why are his rings glowing? Does, by the way, rings have a similar meaning in Finnish mythology than in Norse (protection/servitude, vassal/overloard, etc.)?

Käskystä kommentoiden.

I like this. I haven't noticed this before, but now it kinda flashed out on your deviantpage. Details..great! Point of view..great! This "fellow" looks menacin. Especially I'm IN to the coloring, the mood is nice.

Only one thing bothers me...the face. Ok, I know that if you would take a wideangle lens and take a photograph like this, everything farther away would look smaller, but not that small.

The face is deliberately that small. I've explained on a couple of occasions that the proportions of the Rha-kan'Ockian elves and their gods don't fit those of a standard human being. The small-ish heads may be unaesthetic or elsewise, but I pinned it down once and have to stay in that anatomy frame for the sake of consistency. I may use different proportions in pics unrelated to the novel world.

Thanks for the crits anyhow. :)

Ah, point taken. It is good that you "know what you are doing", in this case you have a good explanation why you have done as you have. Not all people know :)

(siis yritän sanoa, että on hyvä tietää mitä teet, eli sulla on selkeä perustelu niille teknisille/ilmaisullisille ratkaisuille mitä olet tehnyt. Osa porukasta tekee hienoa/huono ihan vahingossa, eikä osaa perustella sitten.

No mutta, taas menee selittelyksi. XD Tästä 'minipäät' -ilmiöstä tulee kuitenkin sen verran usein juttua, että voisin tietysti laittaa jonkun selityksen kommenttilaatikkoon, kun piirtelen näitä mörköjä.

Wow, I can imagine the giant halls, the cold air, the smell of the moist stones and the feeling of loosing balance when looking up to this giant. Just out of curiosity, is the ring next to the 3 power/magical rings a marriage ring?

The custom in this realm is not to use wedding rings. Rather, upon marriage, adoption, etc. the person entering someone's family adopts the corresponding family crests. :)

Ah, no Lovecraft fanart here. I read the books as a pre-teen and have pretty much forgotten what's within (aside from Cthulhu which has to belong to the general knowledge of every twenty-first century citizen XD). Should re-read them sometime these days.

Thanks!

(Going to bookmark the novel incase I'll ever get around reading it.. doing that is sort of dreadful on the computer-screen, though.)

Very impressive perspective with this! That's the first thing that shot to my mind when I saw this picture. It seems like you have detail in every little centimeter of the pic. This definantly looked time consuming, and not to mention how well you did with the lighting, especially with a pic angled like this :D You never cease to amaze me with your works!

Thanks. :) Glad to hear if the perspective worked, I'm still a bit jumpy about that. :D Rectangular shapes are easy to do with the perspective lines (I usually have a separate layer for those), but anything with more asymmetry in it gives me headaches at the moment. Ah well, gotta practice more.

Well, it looks good to me, at least. The guy's head seems a little small, but I took that as being part of the character design. I can't really even do perspective without making it look like a child's drawing. *sigh* I envy you real artists, even if you get headaches.

Yup, the head's intentionally shrunken, as the Rha-kan'Ockians and their titans do not exactly fall into the standard human proportions (barrel chest, thicker bones...). :)
Drawing requires a lot of practice like everything else. I've been drawing almost daily the past 26 years and usually need to resort to references and mathematical aids. Ah well.

Okay, good. Thought so. Yeah, yeah, I know... Everything requires practice, but there's got to be talent involved somewhere too, and I highly doubt I have it. But then, I've only had 16 years of doodling in class, so... Thanks for the reassurance.

Daaaaang, he's tall! His hair looks surprisingly tame compared to other elves. As usual your skill shocks and awes. SHOCKS AND AWES, I SAY! I'm digging the perspective too...

I bet I could kick his ass at minigolf.

The heaven- and netherworld lords and ladies are a sect of their own, kind of immortal titans, which guarantees also some natural perks in the hair department. I haven't decided on their standard height yet, but Tghuonegh'err here is 12-15 feet tall (of course he can reshape himself till a certain degree, what with not exactly being a pathetic mortal...).
His minigolf clubs might be rather too heavy for an ordinary human, though. ;) Or maybe you can use a hoisting crane.

Thanks! :) Glad you've liked the story so far. Heh, it's always a bit of a surprise to hear someone has read it, since I don't that often get comments on it. :D Don't worry; I'm not very fast with it either. I started it almost three years ago and hardly have gotten to the middle yet, what with my speed being about one chapter per month. I'd probably be a lot faster if I didn't draw all this stuff, but I just like to put the concepts into pictures. :D

Eh, I always feel like I have so much to improve in, so I like to try out something a bit different into every picture, be it a new pose or a different approach to the coloring technique. The themes have been a bit too redundant lately, though (spot another blue monster...), so I probably should widen out the perspectives there. If I only had more time...
