Description
A Sinocalliopteryx gigas struggles to decapitate a Protopsephurus liui, and so ends of with a funny hat. Sinocalliopteryx is typically a nocturnal panther-like predator of small game, but a drying stream has left an early paddlefish, Protopsephurus, stranded and an easy kill. Its rows of dermal armor are little defence against the overgrown compsognathid's sharp claws and teeth. This scene plays out in the forests of Early Cretaceous China, where Sinocalliopteryx is the most common large predator and Protopsephurus is one of the rarest fish.
