By the way out of curiousity what campaign are you running?
DM came up with his own. :>
5e is what I play. I recently played a true neutral human cleric who tried to throw a gong off a castle tower just because and stripped down and started bathing next to a statue of an actual person frozen while he was trimming his beard. Used him as a towel rack.
My goblin rogue was tossed through a magic window just to see what would happen.
Unfortunately, my gnome fighter never got to be in a campaign because I moved. But it would have been hilarious.
Except for the wolf.
I want to play DnD so much, and my friend has a group of her friends that meet every week to play. She invited me but I'm highly intimidated because I've never played tabletop before and also I'd kinda just be shoehorned in, ya know? Ahhh I should really just go for it >^<
If you are still anxious there is a lot of videos online explaining the basics of the game (I personally recommend these two channels for which I will leave links at the end of this comment: Don't Stop Thinking and XP To Level 3 ), you can also find a lot of free resources on Wizard Of the Coast's site (link will also be at the end). These will basicly help you get a head start before you go there.
If you find yourself in a position where you can't play with an IRL party there is also Roll 20. A site that is a great way to play DnD and other tabletop games online with friends.

AH !!! I'm so sorry I didn't respond to you earlier! I'm glad I could help you.
I also recommend the /rDnDnext and the /rDnD subreddits, they are active and people will answer any question you have very quickly.
If you want to read some of the books to get started you can pick up the player's guide for DnD 5e which basically covers you up for most of what you need to know and you can use to create a character and get to know the DnD world.
I'd also recommend you look for local game stores, most host D&D adventures League where you can basically hop on with a character you made or a premade one (look at the Wizard's of the Coast website) and get to play the game with newbies and experienced players alike.
Again I'm so sorry I didn't respond earlier!
The dwarf necromancer look so cool XD too tidy for it job! 5e is pretty nice and easy to play, very satisfying
Our DM just came back from a 6 month externship in Barcelona
He was so packed with ideas and stories that we immediately had an over 12 hours session
