Lovecraft's Cthulhu

H.P. Lovecraft made two sketches of Cthulhu for correspondents. I used these sketches as the basis for this sculpture. Original is made from Super Sculpy and I've made copies with resin available. They are painted black/green with gold highlights. They are 7 3/4 inches tall.

Copies of this sculpture are available for $65  plus shipping.  Contact me at zombiequadrille@hotmail.com for details.

Yep, it's just as creepy as I imagined when I read the story. Well done!

Nice statue ;)

Lovecraft did do a sketch on which these effigies are based.

I believe you have captured the Cthulhu statuette the way Lovecraft envisioned it. A look at Lovecraft's drawing (Selected Letters) depicts him as having more than two eyes - almost spiderlike. Good catch on this detail.

One sculpture, made by the artist/writer of FuturePig, looks like morbid discharge coats the stone.
That's beautiful work!  Congratulations!

Lovecraft's sketches were of Cthulhu itself, or of the sculpture that is described of Cthulhu in the first part of The Call of Cthulhu?

Either way it looks amazing.

Since he's sitting on the inscribed rectangular pedestal I imagine HPL's pictures were intended to relate how the idol looked.

That is a very beautiful piece. Do you sell these online?
zombiequadrille's avatar
Hi,   I do sell them.  Contact me at zombiequadrille@Hotmail.com for details.
Thanks for your interest.
ImpalerQueen's avatar
I certainly shall. A dear friend and fellow Lovecraft fan is also interested in buying one. May I give her your email so she may inquire?
zombiequadrille's avatar
Certainly! Thanks.  I don't advertise much so the more contacts the better.

Excellent! I shall give her details and will hopefully be emailing you soon.
Can you please show a left side of the sculpture? And can i buy it? I`m from Russia.

Hi, sorry, I didn't see your note.  Yep, that is my German seller.  I sell him quantities of sculpts for resale in Europe.  It costs almost $60 to send one Cthulhu to Europe, but I can send 15 for $120 so it makes it worthwhile.

Sorry for the delay.  Send me a note - zombiequadrille@Hotmail.com and I'll send an image of the left side.

odd that there so very little sculptures/drawing from the original image done by Lovecraft.....
and those based off it are often to lean and "modern".

the description says he's a pudgy 'little' thing... and that the tentacles are more cilia than cephalapoid tentacles....
Too bad Lovecraft never took an art class...it would be very interesting to see what he imagined....

Yes. I've had people say I didn't have a clue as to what Cthulhu should look like; as if he's supposed to have a superhero body with claws, scales, and tentacles. From Lovecraft's words we can pretty much say that wasn't his idea;
'Flabby Claws', 'bloated corpulence', gelatinous green immensity'.

He tried going to Jenny Craig.....but everybody just went screaming mad when he showed up.....
it was so depressing, he ate yet another ice cream freighter ...again....

LOL! And then back to dreaming in R'lyeh.
