Pervert !

Now a inked version: Pervert! (finished)

Here's a sketch for another idea that occurred to me shortly after publishing my crossover crack-fic Welcome to Walter's Apartment, blending Watchmen and Joe's Apartment.

If you want to read it, follow that link, it shouldn't take you more than five or ten minutes:…

A quick summary if you can't read it: Walter Kovacs is looking for an apartment because he couldn't afford the former one anymore, being now unemployed. He finally find one cheap enough, there's just one problem: the cockroaches. Of course, if those were ordinary cockroaches he wouldn't mind given his personal conception of hygiene, but those are the cockroaches from the comedy Joe's Apartment, which means they can talk, sing, dance and are on top of it quite rude and invasive, have no sense of privacy at all and are quite sex-maniacs. They quickly get quite fond of their new roommate (who knows nothing of them at the beginning) because he lets the apartment to them practically all the time and most important: he's as disgusting as they are. Curious about what Walter can do outside, they decide to follow him at night and discover his secret, when he comes back to the apartment, they present themselves and show him an improvised musical. Walter assumes they are an hallucination provoked by the unwilling inhalation of drugs during a fight against drug-dealers in their lab and says he wants them out of his apartment. When he wakes up in the morning everything seems normal until he sees a breakfast made of dishes and... talking cockroaches just near it. At that moment he decides to run away, thinking the apartment whose lodger is a whore with children obviously not from the same father is not so bad after all, at least to keep his sanity intact (well, what he sees as sanity anyway). Back in the previous apartment, the cockroaches wonder if they should follow him or not.

Here they do, and as you can notice Walter can see them but does his best to not pay attention to them, considering them as hallucinations that should go away if he doesn't give them any attention.

I had the idea of this short comic here (a very rough sketch, I know, I'll eventually make a better version of it if I have some time) after thinking that the landlady's remark about Walter being a pervert could make sense in this version because of the intervention of the cockroaches.

This is supposed to be Walter writing in his journal, complaining about the visions of irritating cockroaches that keep coming back, Ralphie, one of the cockroaches, is on the journal, trying to get his attention, with little success.

His landlady is knocking quite loudly at the door, saying she knows he's in there, he closes his journal briskly, before going to open the door, for Ralphie I hesitate between making him escape just in time from the journal or getting a leg trapped inside, in both case he would complain anyway.

The confrontation between Walter and his landlady, Dolores Shairp (ew, I can't believe I really drew her...), he asks her what she wants and she complains that he hasn't paid the rent yet.

He answers he'll pay soon, she says he better do, Ralphie arrives right behind Walter complaining about his behavior earlier

Ralphie apparently sees something he likes...

Mrs Shairp's breast... sorry for the fan disservice but I have stated that the cockroaches were sex-maniacs, not that they had good taste...

She leaves and Walter thinks “good riddance”.

Mrs Shairp gets wolf-whistles from Ralphie but she assumes it comes from Walter, who looks horrified at the idea it might be him.

PANEL 8: He closes the door and blocks it as his landlady is knocking even harder than earlier on it, ordering him to come out, he's both utterly disgusted and afraid here because he wonders if he has whistled at her and develops the hypothesis that these bloody cockroaches' hallucinations could be a representation of Walter's repressed lust and that he has to control it better, which means becoming more and more Rorschach (and that could explain in this version the fact that the mask “protects him from lust” now that I think about it).

Yes, the cockroaches are messing poor Walter even more here, but really wish him no harm, they just happen to find him interesting for a human, as we can see with some of them, sat on top of the New Frontiersman’s piles, watching Walter and commenting on his actions, one of them coming out from an old tin asks Ralphie what happened to Walter, he answers he doesn't know.

That's it. Pretty amazing what ideas can pop into your mind when you can't sleep... Well, I hope you've found this little short-comic, well sketch for a comic more precisely, fun.

Disclaimer: I don't own Watchmen, Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons do, and Snyder for the movie-version since it's this version of Kovacs you have here, the same for Joe's Apartment, MTV owns it, and of course I'm not paid for that.

This was pretty funny. I doubt Walter's ever whistled at anyone like that. That cockroach is probably the reason why she referred to him as a pervert.

Glad you liked it. I doubt he ever did something like that too, so imagine how afraid he must have been when he thought he could have done that. And true, in this crossover the cockroach is definitely the reason for Walter's reputation as a pervert for his landlady, which would not make her a liar in this version by the way now that I think about it.
