Officer Christian Cutter of the LAPD is investigating the death of a man by the name of Ben Talbot, who was a close friend of his fiancée, Gwen. At the funeral, as Gwen mourns the loss of her friend, Lawrence Talbot, Ben's brother, takes it the worst, he lost a family member. After the funeral, Lawrence visits Gwen, working at a dressmaking shop, checking up on how she's doing, she asks the same for him. A package arrives with a mini wood-carving of a wolf's head. The wolf head represents a werewolf (which is defined as a man who changes into a wolf "at certain times of the year.") Forensics come back with the results of Ben's death; a wolf attack.
Christian calls upon Lawrence to hunt down the wolf that killed Ben, it is late at night, and no sign of the wolf. It is quiet at first, but then the sound of stepping on sticks starts to occur, it isn't Christian, and it isn't Lawrence either, something is following them. The two are being followed, but it is only Gwen, who wants the same thing Lawrence wants, hunt down the wolf that killed Ben. Just to be ambushed by the wolf that killed Ben, upon fighting the wolf, Lawrence is bitten, and it is nasty. Christian is able to tranquilize the wolf and has Gwen help get Lawrence into Christian's car, and get him to the hospital. Hearing back from the nurse, the good news is, he'll live.
The next day, after hearing that Lawrence will be okay, Gwen is visited by a mysterious gypsy fortune teller named Maleva, revealing to her that the wolf that attacked Lawrence and killed Ben, is her son, Bela, in the form of a wolf. And she also tells that Lawrence will transform into a wolf himself, whoever is bitten by a werewolf and lives, turns into a werewolf himself. After hearing of this news, she rushes to the LAPD to find Christian, who is not on duty, on his day off. Gwen is able to get his number, and she calls him about the news from the gypsy earlier in the day.
Christian and Gwen rush to the hospital later that night, and it is a full moon, to warn Lawrence about what will happen after he got bit, only to find that the room he was in, is now empty, Lawrence is nowhere to be found. Screaming goes on outside the room, and then the hallways are covered with blood, and there are tracks, only they aren't human, they are wolf paw prints, so the two follow the tracks, and find a wolf-like creature busting through the front door, and takes off. Christian calls in for backup, and then the rest of the LAPD arrive on the scene, finding dead bodies and blood everywhere, covered up as a killing spree.
A day after the attack at the hospital, forensics is on the case to identify those who were killed, Christian spends the day looking for Lawrence, until he finds Lawrence under a freeway bridge, naked. He asks Lawrence about how he ended up under the bridge all the way from the hospital, Lawrence doesn't remember a thing. Christian tells Lawrence about what happened at the hospital, how he wasn't there, and the killing spree, and the wolf that attacked, it makes sense, Lawrence is the wolf that attacked the hospital staff. Christian rushes to Gwen's dress-making shop to give her the news and asks her to join him on finding a way to lift the curse. Nightfall comes, and it's a full moon, and Lawrence transforms into the wolf that attacked the hospital. The police scanner announces there is a wild disturbance in a local neighborhood, and that the Wolf Man has attacked innocent people and destroying public property. Arriving at the neighborhood, Lawrence is about to attack the Toretto house from the FAST & FURIOUS movies; Gwen gets out of the car and tries to talk Lawrence out of being this monster he became. But it doesn't work, and he is about to attack her, to make her just like him. The wolf that's inside of Lawrence has entirely taken over his body. Christian has no choice but to shoot Lawrence in the arm, to stop him from attacking Gwen. Lawrence turns back into his human self and wants Christian to put an end to his suffering, but instead, he handcuffs Lawrence and places him into an asylum, where his cell has silver linings, to keep him from transforming and tearing the place down. Because the truth about wolves; silver is one of their weaknesses.
Weeks later, Christian and Gwen get married, on the beach, and Gwen leaves her dress-making shop and eventually became a Hollywood costume designer, as Christian is still with the LAPD and gets promoted from Officer to Lieutenant. But looking back on the wedding, it appears that Rachael Hawkins and Tyler Holt went to the wedding, to identify the one who saved LA from the Wolf Man, on orders from Abraham Van Helsing, as Lawrence watches the wedding live on Facebook, on an iPad being shown to him. And as Christian and Gwen kiss, Lawrence howls.
In a post-credits scene, while cleaning up the blood from the hospital, Christian finds a mysterious notebook, revealing how to cheat death, which is the property of Victor Frankenstein.
