Description
In Los Angeles, before work, Layla Connor and her co-worker/girlfriend Mona come out of a flower shop to buy roses to send to Derrick Holloway after the murder of his parents. She soon gets a call from Christian Cutter about the dress shop being burnt down, no deaths. Upon hearing the news, every dress she wore, all the jewelry and matching accessories, Layla finds the thing she loves doing the most is gone. The only clue left over from the burning is a lighter with the letter P, for Prodigium. Layla decides to take the only dress that didn't get burnt up and use it as a message for the monster cult.
On the other side of things, Kitty Carroll, a recently fired model from a department store, has turned to a life of crime to pay for the house. When a cult member named Gibbs approaches her, he offers her a position in Prodigium. She reluctantly accepts the offer after hearing about the benefits of being a cult member. At the time William Barton captured the Gill-Man in Florida, he kept a copy of the invisibility notes from Jack Griffin, the original Invisible Man. Carroll uses the formula on herself and becomes Prodigium's stealth operative, and receives her first mission: Kill Layla Connor.
Layla becomes battle-ready and is prepared to find cult members in the city of Los Angeles. She can't get Christian Cutter involved because he's on assignment in San Diego. Only for Layla to get beaten and knocked unconscious. Waking up in a warehouse by the docks, Gibbs wants Layla to give up this hunt. Carroll reveals herself through the thermal scanner given to Layla by Van Helsing. Mona is dragged in by the cult members and threatens her with death if Layla doesn't give up. Carroll is now driven mad, breaks the thermal scanner to make it harder for Layla to find an invisible woman.
Knocked unconscious again, Layla finds herself woken up on Santa Monica Beach. She knows that Prodigium dumped her into the ocean to leave her to die. Layla is now going to have to rely on instincts to kill Gibbs, capture Carroll, and rescue Mona. Panic spreads on the beach as the cult starts taking more hostages. The cult thinks regular people on the beach are hiding Layla; they know she survived. Gibbs shouts out for Layla to show herself, or hostages will be executed.
Carroll tries to find Layla, but as she approaches her, she is splashed by a bucket of water, and then sand tossed at her, eyes first. Gibbs, enraged by Layla's instincts, sends cult members to kill her. Layla, at first gets overwhelmed, but then Mona, who broke free, gets her out of the situation. Carroll goes to the ocean to get the sand out of her eyes, but turns visible upon entering saltwater, and is completely naked. Police arrive on the scene and have Carroll arrested and start opening fire on Gibbs, killing him. Layla packs up her Camaro and plans to head north to find Derrick and Rachael Hawkins. Mona will keep an eye on things down south in case there are more cult members. Christian Cutter, who had come back from his assignment in San Diego helps Layla deal with Prodigium, and the two drive off after Layla and Mona kiss.
In a post-credits scene, Tyler Holt and Lena arrive in Malibu through their yacht and have Layla and Christian come aboard and to head North to find Derrick and Rachael, to hunt down the last of Prodigium.
