Description

Just hear me out first, I liked the POWER RANGERS movie from 2017, with only one word to describe it: Morphenomenal. There is a post-credit scene that teases a sequel with Tommy the Green Ranger. The title may sound cheesy, but it is a reminder of The Green Ranger appearing in the movie. So, this is my take on the POWER RANGERS sequel. And now I had to change the story in light of the recent death of Jason David Frank (the original Tommy Oliver).

In the wake of the destruction of Angel Grove, social media blows up with footage of Rita Repulsa and Goldar destroying the city to find the Zeo Crystal, which is underneath the Krispy Kreme, only for Goldar to be killed and Rita slapped into outer space by the Power Rangers. Rita survives, and establishes her moon base with her new minions: Finster, Squatt, and Baboo. Rita still knows where the Zeo Crystal is, and has a fresh batch of Putties sent down to Earth to steal the crystal, which the Putties attack at night. Before the Putties can reach the Zeo Crystal, the Pterodactyl Zord flies by, and the Pink Ranger (Kimberly) drops down and starts an assault on destroying the Putties. The Black Ranger (Zack) and the Yellow Ranger (Trini) head to the Krispy Kreme to make sure the Putties don't make it inside to dig for the Zeo Crystal. Meanwhile, the Red Ranger (Jason) and the Blue Ranger (Billy) are in pursuit, and they both wipe out the remaining Putties right before they can get their hands on the Zeo Crystal. Following a successful battle, they randomly teleport back to the Command Center, thanks to Alpha 5. Zordon now gives them the ability to teleport to wherever they need to be when it is time to morph into a Power Ranger. As a reward, Zordon gives them their weapons: An upgraded Power Sword for Jason, Power Daggers for Trini, a Power Axe for Zack, a Power Bow for Kimberly, and a Power Lance for Billy. They train in The Pit to test them out when it is time to use them for real. Down there, Zack uses Spotify to play hip-hop music and mixes it with Martial Arts, creating "Hip Hop Kido."

Our teenagers with attitude are pretty much used to Saturday Detention at Angel Grove High. A new student is announced to be joining them, but appears as a "No Show": Tommy Oliver. Social media sources have stated that the attack on Angel Grove resulted in a number of missing people cases, and Tommy is on the list. The police are overwhelmed and select high school students to search for Tommy in exchange for cleared records. Jason, Kimberly, Billy, Zack, and Trini volunteer to search for Tommy. They are officially out of Saturday Detention, which is now removed from their permanent records. On Monday, they first ask people around Angel Grove High to see what they knew about Tommy before his disappearance. After school, the five get Tommy's address, and they sit down with Tommy's mother (Amy Jo Johnson), asking her what she knew about Tommy before he disappeared. Tommy got Saturday Detention for one thing: Seeing two bullies (Bulk & Skull) stealing lunch money from a freshman, so he pulled their pants down; Bulk & Skull were made fun of in front of everyone at school (I'm sorry, I thought this was America, is it wrong to stand up for other people?). The last known sighting of Tommy was at ACE Hardware, when Goldar attacked Angel Grove. Tommy's father was among the dead in the attack (this would've been Jason David Frank).

Late at night, when everyone's asleep, Jason's house explodes, killing his entire family, except for him. Jason sees a mysterious Ranger with a grenade launcher and runs off. Jason morphs into the Red Ranger and chases after the mysterious Ranger. Back at the Command Center, Zordon alerts the other Rangers through the Wrist Communicators, that Jason is in pursuit of a mysterious Ranger. The others morph and join Jason. They catch up to the mysterious Ranger, and the Ranger they are chasing matches Jason's abilities and wears Green armor. Zordon feared most is Rita using someone to take her place as The Green Ranger. The following weekend is the funeral of Jason's family. The varsity football team shows up, plus Jason's friends, helping him carry the caskets. Jason alternates between houses (Billy's house, Trini's house, Kimberly's house, and Zack's trailer) for a place to live until his house is rebuilt.

The Power Rangers have never felt this much defeat, being outmatched by a Green Ranger and Jason losing his family. At school, nobody says anything to Jason, only because they don't want to bother him. Then BOOM!! Putties attack the school because they know the Power Rangers are here. Jason and his friends head into the bathroom stalls to morph into the Power Rangers and face off against the Putties. After the wave of Putties, they find themselves facing off against the Green Ranger. In the battle, Jason outmatches the Green Ranger while the other Rangers fight another wave of Putties. Jason uses the Power Sword and destroys the Green Ranger's helmet, revealing himself as Tommy Oliver; his eyes glow black, showing he is under the control of Rita Repulsa. Tommy teleports back to Rita's Moon Base, she gives Tommy a new helmet and a stronger set of armor, giving him The Dragon Shield, and Two Wristbands.

The Command Center loses power and contact with Zordon and Alpha 5. Tommy is the one who cut the power and proceeds with his plan to destroy the Command Center, and it turns into a battle that will test the Power Rangers like never before, turning into:

1. Rangers vs. Tommy
2. Megazord vs. Giant Tommy
3. Megazord vs. Dragonzord
4. Jason vs. Tommy

Each ranger has their armor destroyed, including a brutally beaten-up Jason. Jason is about to be killed, as Tommy has The Sword of Darkness at Jason's throat. Jason's words to Tommy: "If you destroy us, there will be no hope left for this planet. Rita Repulsa will get her hands on the Zeo Crystal, and Earth dies, including you. This isn't you, Tommy. Rita is controlling you. She made you kill my family. She already killed your father when she sent Goldar to attack Angel Grove. She made you what she could never be. Your father, my family, their blood is on her hands." The black glow in Tommy's eyes fade away; Jason's words broke Rita's curse. Tommy demolishes The Sword of Darkness out of anger towards Rita. His armor disappears, and comes to realize what happened wasn't his fault, and he controls the power now. As the day ends, Tommy returns to Angel Grove and heads home after paying respects to his father at the cemetery; Another missing person case now closed. Tommy shows up for his Saturday Detention and is put on bully duty, keeping the red-head bully from bullying anyone, and is excused early. Tommy heads to the Command Center and reactivates the power. Communication with Zordon and Alpha 5 is back, and Tommy is made into an official Power Ranger, and must follow the three rules:

1. Never use your power for personal gain
2. Never escalate a battle unless Rita forces you
3. Always keep your identity a secret no one may know that you are a Power Ranger

Tommy tells Jason and the gang his story at the local Jamba Juice, they are the only ones there, and then Ernie (another character from the show) serves them their smoothies; he didn't hear the story because the blenders were too loud. Tommy's remembered what happened before Rita took control of him, he was at the ACE Hardware, and then the roof came down the moment Goldar attacked Angel Grove, he was knocked unconscious by the debris after witnessing his father getting crushed to death. Then he woke up on Rita's Moon Base, and got brainwashed by Rita into destroying the Power Rangers, becoming the Green Ranger. Jason accepts the offer to stay with Tommy until his house is rebuilt. And then it ends with the six Power Rangers looking over the city of Angel Grove, keeping the city safe.

...Heh. If this isn't a good enough pitch, I don't know what is!

Yeah, having Tommy be introduced to the team after everything would probably be a good expansion to the arcs started in the first movie. If anything, I'd say this would make for a strong base for the sequel - and add in nods to the Boom! comics, too!
