Description

I'm going full ROGUE ONE here, where there's an anthology film that ties into the main series, but on a bigger part of my childhood, HARRY POTTER. This is about James Potter, mixing this story with the real stuff, and a part I thought of: A turf war between Gryffindor and Slytherin. I Googled some of this stuff about James only because I had lost interest in reading the books halfway through GOBLET OF FIRE.

Year 1: James Potter started his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and was sorted into Gryffindor. James ended up making three friends, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew and formed a gang only to themselves as the Marauders. Though more mischievous than diligent, James became Chaser for Gryffindor's Quidditch team, utterly aware of his talent.

Year 2: James, Sirius, and Peter discovered that Remus was a werewolf, but rather than abandoning him, they spent three years learning to become Animagi to accompany Remus in his transformations.

For the most of his time at school, James was somewhat of an obnoxious youth with a love of showing off and exceptional self-confidence that bordered on arrogance. Snape once said that he was so arrogant that "criticism simply bounced off him." This rebellious attitude was notably shaped by the negative qualities he developed. Such as the habit of ruffling his hair to make it even untidier to look as though he had just alighted from his broomstick. Also hexing innocent students for other reason. James and Snape had an intense rivalry throughout their years at Hogwarts. To Remus and Sirius, the reason this rivalry began was due to Snape's jealousy over James' talent at Quidditch and his popularity, as well as Snape's interest in the Dark Arts, which James despised. It was later revealed that James and Sirius had gotten off on the wrong foot with Snape from the beginning: when they first met Snape during their first year on the Hogwarts Express, they insulted him (setting a solid foundation for rivalry). Their further interactions only served to make their rivalry intense and permanent - Snape followed the Marauders around, looking for reasons to get them expelled. James, in turn, used the hexes Snape himself had made up against him. At some point in their school years, Snape grew very interested in where Remus went every month and saw Madam Pomfrey and Remus going to the Shrieking Shack using a secret passage under the Whomping Willow. Sirius had, for unknown reasons, told him that the trick to getting past the Whomping Willow was to poke the knot at the bottom. Snape followed Sirius' directions and was nearly at the Shrieking Shack when James pulled him back. At high risk to his own life, James saved Severus from certain death at the claws of the werewolf Remus, but Snape adamantly refused to believe that his old rival would have done him a favor, believing that James had only saved him to avoid expulsion, and despised being in his debt.

Year 5: James managed to perfect the transformation and become a Stag, earning the nickname "Prongs." Sirius (a dog) became "Padfoot," Peter (a rat) became "Wormtail," and Remus became "Moony." With their nicknames, the four created the Marauder's Map, a display of Hogwarts and everyone within it - including staff, ghosts, and students - in their current location at a given time, and made sneaking out of the castle and avoiding teachers much easier. James spent much of his school days trying to catch the attention of Lily Evans, a Muggle-born fellow Gryffindor from Snape's hometown of Cokeworth who was Snape's best friend and childhood crush since before starting Hogwarts. Lily was perhaps the only student in the school, aside from Snape, who was unimpressed by James, considering him arrogant and obnoxious. She demanded James quit jinxing Snape. The former and his friends were in the middle of bullying, with a spell of Snape's invention. Lily told him to stop. When James took the Levicorpus off, Snape, humiliated and angry, called Lily a "filthy little Mudblood." James demanded him to apologize, but Lily responded that James was as bad as Snape and she would not date him. Snape's friendship with the vivacious and Lily may have sparked envy in James and further fuelled the hatred between the two.

At 16, James' parents allowed Sirius to move in with them so he could escape his own horrible family, and Sirius became an unofficial member of the family. By Year 7, James lost the less savory aspects of his personality and was appointed Head Boy, even though he had not been a prefect. He finally managed to impress Lily Evans, and began dating her at the time. He stopped hexing bystanders for fun, though he still secretly hexed Snape, and in turn, Snape never lost an opportunity to hex him back. Snape saw an opportunity for payback, by hexing James, and thus started a turf war between Gryffindor and Slytherin. James had his friends at his side, including Lily. James was the leader of Gryffindor, and Snape was the leader of Slytherin.

Late 1977, Lily and James had a disastrous first meeting with Lily's sister Petunia and her then-fiancé, Vernon Dursley, which took place over Christmas break, as they were both still at Hogwarts. Vernon tried to impress James with his car, the wizard, in turn, boasted of his material wealth, and a row ensued. The evening ended with both Vernon and Petunia storming out of the restaurant and Lily bursting into tears, James promised Lily he'd apologize and make it up (which, due to his and Lily's untimely deaths, never happened). Petunia was married by the end of 1977. Lily and James were not invited to the wedding.

After Christmas break, the turf war between Gryffindor and Slytherin continued through the courtyards and eventually destroyed classrooms in the process. James used his new Christmas present to put an end to the turf war, The Invisibility Cloak and used the Levicorpus jinx on Snape an all of Slytherin surrendered.

After graduation, at only 18, James married Lily Evans, and Sirius Black served as their best man at the wedding. The three of them (along with Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew) joined the Order of the Phoenix, in the fight against Lord Voldemort.

Somewhere between 1979 and 1980, James' parents died of Dragon Pox and inherited the Potter family fortune, which enabled him to support his family without a job. James also used his wealth to support Remus, who was unemployable due to his status as a werewolf.

Autumn 1979, Lily became pregnant, causing her and James to go into hiding.

July 31, 1980, Lily gave birth to their son, Harry, but it was not long before Albus Dumbledore found out that they were in the grave of danger: Harry became a target of Lord Voldemort, due to a prophecy about the one who could ultimately defeat him for good.

"The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches... Born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies... and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not... and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives... The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies...."

Voldemort hears about the prophecy because Snape eavesdropped on Dumbledore and Trelawney when she slipped into a trance and spoke of the prophecy.

1981, Dumbledore told the Potters that their best chance of remaining safe against Voldemort was the Fidelius Charm. James insisted on using Sirius as their Secret-Keeper, even though Dumbledore himself had offered to fill the position. Sirius had a different plan - he convinced James and Lily to use Peter as their Secret-Keeper, with him (Sirius) as a decoy. They agreed, and Dumbledore cast the charm in secret, but this attempt ended in tragedy. The only people to know about the switch were James, Lily, Sirius, and Peter. Even Dumbledore and Remus were kept in the dark. Peter betrayed the Potters to Voldemort.

Voldemort went to Godric's Hollow after Pettigrew gave away their location. In the process of him arriving at Godric's Hollow, he killed James and Lily with the Killing Curse. James made a mistake, leaving his wand in the living room, he was entertaining Harry before Voldemort arrived. Lily was protecting Harry, and as he was gonna kill Harry, the curse rebounded, leaving Harry with the scar, and was known as "The Boy Who Lived." Sirius Black gets framed for what happened, and all the deaths that Pettigrew caused, and sent to Azkaban. Remus Lupin took it the worst, he lost a best friend, and so the Order of the Phoenix disbanded. Pettigrew disguised himself as a rat and is named Scabbers, and was adopted by the Weasleys. For Snape, he secretly turned his back against Voldemort after losing a childhood friend and was a spy for Dumbledore.

We end at Privet Drive, where Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall, and Rubeus Hagrid, dropping off baby Harry at the Dursleys house on Privet Drive, hoping to come back to him when the time was right, with Dumbledore saying: "Good luck, Harry Potter."
