Serious Gumble (Ancient Beasts)

This was an illustration request I did for DreadKnight666, which features a rubbery creature known as Gumble from his online game Ancient Beasts.

Since Gumble came off as one of the cuter & weaker creatures from the game, I thought it'd be interesting to make him look like he's trying too hard to be serious by wearing a viking helmet and holding a mace, rather than using his own strengths and natural abilities. When painting Gumble, I used Ken Sugimori's style as my biggest reference and looked at more of the slimy pokémon such as Goodra and Swalot for the same kind of body texture.

This illustration was done in gouache (with a bit of watercolor), though I used Photoshop to touch up a few white spots and any specks of dust that were on the scanner.
