Is This My Head or Yours?

Journal Entry: Fri May 8, 2015, 8:51 PM
I'm sitting here thinking 'what else could I upload to Redbubble, etc'...and being tired, and kinda depressed about a few things, for no good reason other than I can probably blame it on hypothalamus dysfunction or something.  Or that and Zazzle really wore my brain out the other day.

One thing I want to upload needs to be scanned from a transparency that I swear I have around here...somewhere, somewhere of course, so I was going through things like old sales/business files, and finding out some things that I totally forgot about.  Like sending art to the first Albany Anthrocon and only later finding out I made a big sale (the only one I had go to auction even) since the final buyer was a friend and waiting...and waiting...and waiting until a letter finally arrived that detailed just what had happened to my money and that of all the other artists, along with a check that had had to be taken out of someone's personal account.  I didn't go to the con myself, had someone agent my art for me, or I might have heard about it earlier.  Nowadays that wouldn't be an issue, I'd have been knee deep in 'Where's my money!' troll-fighting.  But that was the late 90's.  And luckily not only did they pay the artists finally, but quickly learned from their fail and now have a pretty nice, and big, con.

I'd forgotten about it, tho.

I've also forgotten one of my other pieces that sold there, 'Morning Rainbow' - there's a note on the paperwork that says '(unicorn)' but other than that it might be a Mayan unicorn I did I have no damn idea what it was.  I didn't scan it, of course, and only have a scan of the inks of the Mayan unicorn it might be.

And oddly enough, I thought the original for Bishoujo Centaur Sailor Mercury sold with Jupiter and Moon, but no she's listed as selling at Confurence 9, which I just sent art to as well.  I did go to Confurence 8...the infamous CF8...and I did ride in The Elevator...and stayed away from the walls!  But I got to overhear Roz Gibson say 'Oh good, they put us by someone who doesn't suck!'...and yes, I overheard it 'cause I was just walking some art to my panels.  Next to hers. :D

WTF...

Journal Entry: Wed May 6, 2015, 9:32 PM
Just tried a few hours ago to upload a photo I've used on products called 'Stargazing Wolverine' to Society6.  And didn't get any further than the name before the website informed me that I'd added a word that could be copyrighted or trademarked.  WTF, Society6 - I just search on 'wolverine' and I get TONS of pop (aka fan) art of the Marvel character, and *I* get told *I* can't use the word for a picture of THE REAL ANIMAL.

WTF...

--Zhora

P.S - Yeah, I contacted their customer service/marketing department/whatever, and am waiting for an answer.  I'm just...boggled at the ridiculousness, and needed to vent.  I've not had any problem with using my wolverine photos on the other sites, even on CafePress, the profit thieves.

Journal Entry: Wed Apr 29, 2015, 6:21 PM

I'm sorry if my reorganizing just spammed the crap out of you! :(  I didn't know it would spam the crap out of my own profile page, either. :(

Also, I just made the worst green bean casserole ever...cold green beans and lots of raw onions that I'm still tasting. :P  I put it back in the oven for a while to see it that improves it.

UPDATE:
Longer cooking DID improve it...made it more edible.

So I...

...signed up on RedBubble...

And threw a few of my 'pop art' pieces up there, because they deserve to be on things.  We'll see how long it lasts.

I might go for Society6, too, because making rugs of my work would be awesome.

Well, after a whole month of badgering, Fine Art America is finally coughing up a replacement canvas print...on the day I was supposed to send in the entry for the next WAG art show.  Ah well, I'll help at the show, but won't have anything to enter.  Not like I had the money for the entry anyway, or for acquiring other professional photography prints.

In the meantime, I signed up at Nuvango, because all-over printed shirts are awesome.

And then today I went through old sketches and scanned originals that needed scanning or rescanning...at least while my scanner is functional, because the printer side is kaput.  Expect to see lots more old crap from me in the next few weeks.

And I still didn't find the Mousebat Moon original.  At least I found some prints of the Bishoujo Centaurs, since the person who owns the originals with their color backgrounds hasn't apparently been that interested in scanning them for me whenever I've asked over the years.

I'm worn out from two days of doctors appointments with Mamma Mia! in between, after a fairly busy weekend.

And then I really needed to print something, a written complaint about loose dogs in the garden area, aaaaand...something's gone a-brokey with the paper loading in my 6 year old Epson Artisan 710.  Fuuuuuck.  Repair?  Yeah right...it's old and was doing something weird on top of not loading paper to boot, so it would be more than the printer is worth. :(

Had to get the letter printed out at Kinko's (calling it 'FedEx Kinko's' or whatever just sounds stupid) for 13 cents apiece (I happened to have 26 cents at the time, so I got two).  I'll probably have to get any small prints done there until I can replace my Epson. Which will be...FuckifIknow in the month of Fuckitall, of the year Fuckyoupoorpersoninthisevilcapitalistempire. :(

Froggies Goin' Courtin'

Journal Entry: Sat Mar 21, 2015, 10:58 PM

Tonight's the night the Pacific Chorus Frogs woke up.
They're the pleasant (read: non-bullfrog) ones you hear in the background of movies and TV, and the locals are loud enough I can hear them from my 8th floor apartment.

In my last apartment, which was a 2nd floor one with a balcony, one used to climb up the wall to visit my vermiplanter (combination vermicomposter and garbage can planter), and snack on some worms from my hand.  I miss my li'l froggie friend.

I miss having a garden on my balcony.  Currently I have some pots and the vermicomposter (not the garbage can planter portion, which is in storage) down in the ground-floor garden area, but am not hopeful about getting a bed any time soon.  Even tho I'm second on the list, word of mouth is that the person in charge tends to play favorites, and I'm too bitchy for that game.  Maintenance has also told me that the residents may be asked to remove everything from up against the fence, which would mean removing my plants and worms entirely, either to my apartment or back to my parents' house.  I hope I get a bed before then.

HERP! HERP! I NEE' HERP!

Journal Entry: Sun Jan 18, 2015, 10:16 PM

Fine Art America, of which I am a member, is holding a seriously awesome photography contest for its members:
A chance to have photographs judged by Anne Geddes (yes, she of the babies!)!  The winning photos AND the winning photographers will be featured in their next national commercial!

The catch is, the first round of the competition is a public vote on the submissions, and only photos that receive 250 votes go on to the second and final round, which is the round Ms. Geddes will be judging.  voting is going on now, and will end on the 28th of February.

Well this is an opportunity I cannot pass up, but I need your help: if you like any of my pictures, please vote!  As Screamy says: PREEEEEEEEEEEEESE? :)

These are my submissions (click the links):

Tamahome at Sunset

Holding Back the Tiny River

and
Spring Cracklin'

I thank you all, whether you vote or not, 'cause you make me feel like I can do this 'art' thing not too badly. :) :) :)

Devious Journal Entry

I've been pondering a lot lately about why I don't really have an urge to do art or photography the last few months - besides the Ramsey-Hunt crap that keeps making my life miserable since I moved downtown into public housing.  Heat triggers it, exercise triggers it, too much l-arginine (an amino acid) triggers it...my computer is out of date and my Photoshop even more so, and there is no money to replace anything...and...I just don't feel it.

This did lead to one revelation - it was never about doing the art, like it is for so many others.  Its just not a drive for me.  Art for me is just a tool.

And its a tool that requires some emotional content, and when I don't want to expose that, or don't have anything TO expose, I just don't feel like doing it.  Also I like looking at and experiencing nature better than drawing it - can't improve on what God did, I'd rather examine and feel and experience the real thing.  Which is something I am not able to do as much as when at my other apartment.

I've also been pining away for another mustang, aka a wild horse.  www.blm.gov/adoptahorse/horse.… One in particular  who while I can't afford to adopt her unless I win the lottery, I have been rather obsessed with making sure she gets adopted by someone at least.  She comes from the same Herd Management Area my Brawn did, and I'm told she's a 'kind' mare.  The BLM Internet Adoption for this month is her last chance before she disappears into long-term holding (and possibly slaughter - the oversight of long-term holding has been questionable).

Either the new Firefox doesn't like deviantArt, or it doesn't like some of my files.  I'll keep plugging away...

At least I got to upload the new, larger version of Wolverbabe Fashion Show #5 - get the prints while you can, remember all the small ones go away in 5 days!  Tho after you'll still be able to get the ginormous ones, and the miscellaneous stuff.

Spoke too soon, and brain forgot that the originals for Roller Tease II and Psychedelic Dancer were sold at Confurence 8, and the things I scanned and uploaded here are handcolored prints.  D'oh, dumb brain!

In fact Psychedelic Dancer's original had a completely different name and color scheme: She was called 'Fancy Dancer' and was bay pinto with pink/purple drapes and no background, which I finally located a small scan of and might upload for your perusal (that whole 'archive full sizes of your friggin' work' thing wasn't exactly a priority way back then...or as easy to do as it is today).  The eye-searing color scheme came later when I decided to do a quick color job on a spare print.  Roller Tease II is the same color scheme as the original, but since its handcolored it's individually unique.

Sadly (mostly!) my computer absolutely refused to cooperate with making Psychedelic Dancer into a small enough large format print.  Yes, yes I'm sure you're all incredibly disappointed that you won't have the chance to assault your (and any roommate's) eyeballs with a ginormous neon poster of a horse with naked breasts, but you'll survive. ;) ;)

I was thinking, too, that I may scan a black and white copy of the print so people can have some fun coloring it.  Anyone interested?

---------------------------
And now, since I'm going a little woozy from lack of sleep, I shall now say goodbye and goodnight.  Night!

....and paid for an annual premium account.  Got to get prints back up and running...and other things.

I was supposed to be going to my first Art Guild meeting tonight, but the sudden snowstorm yesterday caused them to cancel.  Which is just as well, as there's still many inches on the ground.  Supposedly tomorrow will be up in the 50's and it will all be gone.

  • Listening to: Nothing at all
I've uploaded a few more pictures to Fine Art America, only a couple of which are on dA. fineartamerica.com/profiles/ch…

  • Listening to: Nothing at all
I hadn't even finished editing Manilow's upload when someone just had to give him some 'Added to' lovin'! Mani'd be totally giving it back at ya! Huggle!

I'm glad peeps like my old crap. :D I kinda missed having the Fashion Show pics up online - the website was taken down something like 15 years ago, and I just built a new one and didn't bother to incorporate that really early Javascript routine that changed the picture with each reload that a friend wrote for me.  I really wish I had better scans, tho, especially of the ones I no longer own.

-----------------------------

I finally found a website I can sell both prints AND originals on: Fine Art America.  fineartamerica.com/profiles/ch…

They specialize in prints, so they do a really good job, and their system is simple, plus you can list any original and physical prints you have for sale along with the POD stuff and its sold directly via private sale.  Plus, greater profit!  I only have three pictures up there so far, but there will be more, yes, there will be more! :)

I also have a Zazzle store now, at www.zazzle.com/anthroland?rf=2…

Sure, I know dA sells prints and such, but I've seen the quality of work that comes out of Fine Art America in person (its the favorite of many local artists), and Zazzle has a great big variety of fun stuff to print on, like watches, Christmas ornaments, and game controllers, plus a more powerful graphics manipulation program.

CafePress and me have mostly parted ways after all these years, due to them trying to treat designers like low-wage employees, making them jump through arbitrary hoops that have nothing to do with designing products, creating products, or advertising products, in order to get their full 10%...if they don't, they get less, down to 5%.  The only reason I haven't pulled out entirely is that three of my images have pending sales or are in the 30-day-return waiting period...and it might be a good idea to keep the account in order to do one-off items for myself that I can't print other places, like TF fan art items.

And now that my brain is so fried I don't remember how to make better looking links in HTML, I'm off to bed.
