The Search for Rally Cap Rudy

Journal Entry: Tue Jul 10, 2018, 12:05 AM
Slight update:

It turned out that the old email I found for his breeder/former owner/former trainer is still good, and she got back to me today with the news that she's going to look into what's happened to him and get back to me on Wednesday if she finds out anything! Woot! :D

Sleepless North of Seattle

Journal Entry: Wed Jul 4, 2018, 11:24 PM
And its not because of the big booms happening right now.

I've stayed up all night a couple times in the last few weeks now, searching for any mention of a Thoroughbred racehorse I like, whether he has been moved to another track or trainer, or has been sent home for a long rest or recuperation from an injury not noted in the chart of his last race, or God Forbid, disposed of at an auction like so many other low-level claimers are.

I can't explain why its THIS horse and not  all of the horses in my virtual stable on Twinspires who've been MIA for months, 'cause I don't know why but I am starting to get a bit obsessed.  His name is Rally Cap Rudy, and his last race was on April 2nd, 2018 at Turf Paradise in Arizona.  Last summer he raced at Emerald Downs (trained by his breeder/owner, even!) but when his trainer went to Hastings after Emerald's season ended, he was immediately claimed (can't blame 'em, he's a consistent runner, and I would if I could!).  That owner/trainer took him to Turf Paradise, like some WA trainers do (others go to CA or Portland Meadows, unless they take the winter off to rest and develop yearlings).  Rudy was claimed again in February, by a trainer who left at the end of the season for a tiny track in Wyoming, with some of the owner's horses.  But...Rudy doesn't seem to have raced again since April - anywhere!

Now, it could be that he's been taken home for an extended rest or something nice like that.  But my gut is saying different.  He's only a $8000 claimer, and it would have been very easy, too easy I'm finding out, for him to have been dropped at an auction, or sold in the auction parking lot to a kill buyer.  Kill buyers are increasingly doing parking lot deals for Thoroughbreds because of the ease with which rescuers can ID a former racer (flipping up the lip to read the tattoo) and get the horse rescued and killbuyer/auction in trouble.  Or they even sell them at inflated prices as a side business to people who are afraid they're going to slaughter (in truth the horses get moved from lot to lot and advertised as 'going to slaughter if they're not rescued NOW!' because the kill buyers figured out people would pay, and because their regular business is being gradually diminished by the efforts of the rescue groups and humane societies.).

I've been scouring rescue websites and anywhere else I can think of (but I don't seem to have much luck finding any of these kill buyer sales sites - they may be doing it via the huge horse sale sites), and regularly check Horseracing Wrongs in case he's listed as dead anywhere, but maybe I should just find a way to contact his breeder and former trainer and see if she'll tell this weirdo who is a fan of her horse if she knows what's happened to him.

Heck if I wasn't currently poor and could afford a place for him to stay, I'd track him down and buy or adopt him myself.

Looking Up How to Junk My Car

Journal Entry: Wed Jun 27, 2018, 7:29 PM
The Honda I got for free from the parents is having increasing transmission trouble and the struts have started to collapse, both issues for which I have 0 money.  Plus, despite it being a '99 model, it was actually built in '98 so its 20 years old this year.  I do wish I had the money to fix it up, as its been important to me for the last 30+ years to have the freedom to drive for hours and busses don't cut it for that, despite if its a good system or not.

I plan to drive it until it quits, as I pretty much only drive around the city  since I stopped long-distance driving after the strokes (tho now its because of the car and not the fatigue factor), and with the city's bus system I won't get stranded if/when it breaks down.  But I certainly will be depressed by the lack of freedom and loss of ability to do things like haul stuff around.  Yes, I could get, for instance, a new TV delivered here but there's a high risk of package theft in my building.
And its the freedom issue that matters most anyway.

*sigh*

Guess What Showed Back Up

Journal Entry: Sun May 6, 2018, 8:38 AM
Warning: On the Edge of Raging Bitchness Ahead

Yeahhhhhh...

So I got a note that day from the person who used to run the garden about free veggie starts that were on offer, so I called and asked if she'd seen where the hose nozzle went.  She's the one that told me it had been there when she was sitting in the chair next to the hose on Thursday afternoon, and she had hung it up on the fence along with the broken purple one.  Sitting there in the muddy, swampy area next to the hose, on a chair on soaking wet plywood, when there were lots of other chairs in DRY areas to sit, and had hung up my bought nozzle along with one that had a broken lever.

Just mentioning that.

Guess what showed up some time between that phone call and 7 am this morning.  Just happened to be attached to the hose, too.  Hmmm.

Its now in my apartment for the time being, because I am (probably menopausally) bitchy right now and that is not a good time to decide what I'm going to do - leave it out for everyone like I'd intended, or maybe go buy a slightly cheaper, breakier one to leave out and keep this one as backup.

I better go get some kava chocolate because I can already tell the 'mones are gonna be fuuuuun today.  Probably should suck down copious amounts of miso, too.  I am apparently SO bitchy its showing in my face 'cause one dog owner who was down in the garden area with loose dogs ('but they were on leashes!'), and with whom friends of mine had had unpleasant interactions, immediately gathered them up and left as soon as she saw me, even tho I turned to look up at the uglyass paint job being slapped on our building without saying anything.  And no, I didn't turn away because of her, I really wanted to see what the paint job was looking like (okay, a liiiiittle bit because I didn't want to interact with the bitch...).  White and gray and gray-green for highlights.  Yeah.  Ugh.  At least they're repairing the holes.

Kava...you are not the most delicious thing, but you keep me calm when I need you.  I love youuuu.

And Then Some Mofo...

Journal Entry: Thu May 3, 2018, 8:57 PM
...stole the spray nozzle I bought for the garden hose just last week.  It was there yesterday, and I'm told it was there earlier today...but not this evening.  GRRRRRR.  I guess it was too damn shiny for someone to resist.

Guess I'll go buy another and keep it with me.

If you're wondering why its so important its because my garden is like 60+ feet away down an incline from the nearest spigot, and while no one has stolen my gallon plastic watering jug I really don't want to haul it back and forth umpteen zillion times to water my whole garden.  I use it for targeted watering only, which is what I did tonight, trying to get the nasturtiums and squash to finally sprout.

Good Lord I Feel Fucking Crazy Today

Journal Entry: Mon Apr 30, 2018, 4:04 PM
Periods during menopause are just as bad as during puberty...just less fucking messy.  I feel like a fucking crazy person today.  And like repeating that.

And with that I segue into the news that my Crazy Period Vixen pattern on Spoonflower got enough Favorites to be included in one of their Daily Trending lists.  Right at the end, but its on the list!

Looks like my trusty ol' external drive may be ready to give up the ghost.  I did mirror the files on my internal drive, but looks like I may eventually be in the market for another backup drive.  Or something.

I'm tired.

Banged Out About 4

Journal Entry: Sat Oct 14, 2017, 11:44 PM
So it looks like my skill is back up to where it was....but my subject matter that I really want to draw has...changed slightly, let me say.  Menopause is demanding it. *wiggles eyebrows*

I drew 4 large sketches today, only one of which I decided to share.  Since its on 17" bristol, I had to splice it together which looks alriiiiight...but not perfect.

Devious Journal Entry

Journal Entry: Mon Sep 18, 2017, 9:44 PM
Looks like advertising a little via Tumblr, Google+, and Pinterest has started paying off.  Would like to also use Instagram but I'm on PC and its kind of a proprietary bitch about it.  I got a couple Zazzle sales today, of designs I've never had any sales on before, aaaand a copyright strike when they reviewed the Wolverine Cheerleader mug.  It is, of course, because she's similar to a Michigan Wolverines cheerleader of course, minus the letters.  They haven't picked up on the ornaments yet, tho.

POD Sites

Journal Entry: Fri Sep 8, 2017, 11:39 PM
So Zazzle's last crash that temporarily wiped out a huge chunk of my products (at least those which weren't wiped out by previous updates that I didn't notice until recently) has made me start considering, yet again, other POD sites.  I think I might take the plunge and go with making a store on Etsy and sell products from several linkable POD sites, like Printful.  I'll keep Redbubble, tho - I've gotten the most sales from them, plus they allow my pop art and cater to geeks that are my primary audience.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm also TRYING to get an Instagram account going, but I need an Android emulator to get the app working on my PC, and the site wouldn't even just plain let me log in today. :P  Argh.

Well, Shit...

Journal Entry: Sun Feb 26, 2017, 6:21 PM
Looks like I'll be finding another platform for sharing my art.  I've seen deals like the Wix deal before, and they ALWAYS make promises about things not changing, that they'll leave the purchased site alone but just update software, and that the same protections will remain...and they all inevitably turn out to be lies.  Especially since Wix has publically stated they're going to 'open up the repository of art...' to Wix users to just take for their own uses.

And dA so far is not answering questions adequately, IMO, when they actually answer at all.  Hopefully they will say something tomorrow.

Time to fire up the Instagram account I made, I guess, and transfer the furry art all to FurAffinity finally...

Zazzle 'bout Gave Me a Heart Attack Last Night!

Journal Entry: Tue Jan 17, 2017, 5:00 PM
I've been putting Rainbow Gator on products for the last few days, and last night I got a copyright strike and product removed!

So immediately I emailed back and asked what the actual problem is since its clearly my own design.  Closest I could come was that maybe there was a problem with the name being almost the same as someone else's design name.

Turns out...it was more silly than that.  The product was a 'thermal tumbler', which most people would know as a thermos...but Thermos doesn't like it when people use that in descriptions, or, as I had done, AS A TAG.  Just an effing common word tag that allows people to find your product.
  Crash

I don't know if I'm going to replace the product, but at least now I'm a bit wiser about my tags.

Low-key Christmas

Journal Entry: Mon Dec 12, 2016, 8:15 PM
So so far this holiday season is very low-key for me.  Which is good because I'm battling some throat issues.  No idea what, 'cause I haven't been to the VA recently, but I'm using all the homeopathic and regular over the counter stuff I have, which is working.

I'm sure I've been annoying the neighbors with my foghorn cough, which has finally subsided except when I'm laying down, so I've had some late nights just because of that.  Been watching a lot of movies and Xmas specials on YouTube as a result.

I'd advise against searching for Jack Frost on YT, tho, unless you don't mind wading through tons of (Rise of the Guardians) Jack Frost and Elsa soft to hardcore porn.  I came across that while looking for the Rankin/Bass Jack Frost.  Don't get me wrong, I like RotG and the pairing TOTALLY makes sense...I just got a little tired of wading though 13 pages of it before even getting to 1 R/B video.

And of course I ended up watching RotG on YT last night, too.  I need to get a copy of that movie.

Mousebat Moon

Journal Entry: Sat Nov 19, 2016, 11:50 AM
Ever had a piece of art you made that you like, that you know you didn't sell, that has disappeared for years except for every once in a while when you're not looking for it...only to disappear again when you think you'll remember where you saw it last (because of course you were busy at the time and thus didn't remember)?

That's been my life with Mousebat Moon.  What you see in the gallery is a scan from back when I first got a scanner...back in the 90's so you know it wasn't that good.  And that's why its so small onscreen now.  I want to actually USE the piece for something, 'cause it still kind of stands up and I still like it, but that requires a re-scan, and I can't even seem to find copies of the original.

*sigh* Yeah, I just did another round of all that.  And found a few things I'm going to be uploading later, and one I'm probably going to make products out of.

But I do find more art I forgot about every time I go searching for it, and OTHER things I've been looking for: like the transparencies for Wings of Love, because I inevitably also end up reorganizing my art.

They Went From Spay, To KILL

Journal Entry: Sun Sep 11, 2016, 7:42 PM
For the last year, the Bureau of Land Management has been considering experimental field spaying of wild horses.  Advocates, veterinarians, the Humane Society, and anyone with a conscience have been fighting this incredibly dangerous and inhumane plan.

Well the Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board convened two days ago, and decided not to do it.

So we should be celebrating, right?

They replaced it with something WORSE.
MUCH WORSE.

They're considering mass killing of all the horses THEY have rounded up and put in holding.  45,000 perfectly healthy horses.  Don't get the wrong idea - they aren't going to just shoot them full of drugs, that makes disposal problematic.  They'll either shoot them or send them across the borders to Canada and Mexico for slaughter.

Some of whom they removed JUST so they could claim that 'there are no more horses in this Herd Management Area,' and CLOSE IT TO HORSES, so cattlemen can run their destructive cattle on it for just over $2 a pair.  They didn't just round up horses for emergencies, in some cases they manufactured 'emergencies' by denying the horses access to water via turning off water troughs they themselves had installed (but they were turned on for big game animals!), or installing fencing around water holes, which resulted in deaths and excuses for removal.

The only member of the board who voted against this plan was Ginger Kathrens, filmer of the Cloud documentaries, who just this year was elected to the board as the representative of the American public.  The rest are cattlemen, who stand to profit from the destruction of the Mustang.

Really telling, isn't it. :(

If anyone wants to help, the American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign has been the lead in fighting for our mustangs for years, and are accepting donations for this fight, even if you, like me, have only a little bit of money.  You can also donate to the Cloud Foundation.
