The base material was from the same batch that resulted in [link] , [link] and [link]

The experiement had to do initially with painting arabic words with Japanese sumi ink and brush, and then altering with paint and eventual digital adjustment. This one actually was done entirely in acrylic ink and paint before digital editing was done.

It has sat in a dusty corner of the HD since.

The word in it could be related to a drum or a pattern derived from a drumbeat.

I'm home from work now and looked up James Chance and am really very flattered - thanks again!

Btw - did you know the Slits were gigging this year? Not the original line-up, but still with Ari and tessa....wouldn't have minded seeing them tho. I was a huge admirer back in the day.

I expect you did know that. ;)

I love how rich and deep and earthy it is. It has a good drum vibe!

I like how the writing looks as if it could have been done with a finger too.

Amazing that something so synthetic can feel so warm and organic - nice work!

Thank you. It still feels half-baked to me, but I was not sure what else to do with it.

In other news, I listened to the cd's and while I will do a bigger write up eventually, I have to say most of it was pretty decent earfood. Some of it reminded me of the James Chance/Contortions for some reason, and sometimes I felt like I was listening to a better trained version of The Slits. I need to give a few more runs through before I write something ubstantive though.

I'm really glad you thought the music was alright. I wouldnt want to do it now, but it was great fun at the time. 'Better trained Slits' - haha, that's a delightful compliment thank you.

Oh good, I was hoping you wouldn't be insulted by either the Contortions or the Slits comparison (as I actually was fond of both).

The music was better than alright, although a few spots do seem to suffer from that period's DIY studio aesthetic (so much of the genre did, regardless of the quality of material...even PiL's first few albums are in dire need of a remaster). But that is a recording issue and not a music quality issue.

Have you recorded anything since?

BTW, the Roots Manuva pic is quite good (and since I am a fan...)

I have to check out the Contortions, I'd not heard of them before you mentioned them.

I couldnt agree more about the production on my old stuff - that's why the Peel session is the only part I would choose to promote.

I didn't really make any music after I left them, I wanted to move back towards Black Music (which was what I played first), so I suppose I'd have liked to do something closer to Rage Against the Machine next, but there was nobody in the area who was interested in joining me, so I went off on a kind of multimedia tip, made a few little videos at college, messed around with some digital photomontage - very lićtle has survived from that phase...alth°ugh this week Ive been trying to arrange to get my old showreel digitised, so you have been warned! Haha.

Thanks for the nice comment and :+fav: on Mr Mahooda. He's pretty special, eh!
