I decided to pop back onto Star Trek online this weekend because it apparently went free a couple months ago. There was some "interesting" changes to say the least. For one the populations have seemed to skyrocket which is pretty cool but the downfall is that it feels like the "quality" has decreased.
I mean dont get me wrong, I am all for people doing whatever they want in a video game, I have on more than one occasion found my Captain dunk and dancing on the bar in Deep Space Nine, and my ship is named the USS Jack Kirby, along with my buddy JB our captains have had more than one run in with time traveling tribbles and green women that need to be seduced, but when I log in and see a Captain by the name of "Rear Admiral McButtzlongschlong" commanding the USS Crotchrocketspecial im sorry... but I lose a little faith in humanity.
My Captain is serious when needs to be but likes to look on the "zany" side of things but thats because of my own personal outlook. Obviously the creators of the game feel the same way because there is plenty of "serious" missions and then there is the time traveling mission to go back and get alcoholic drink recipes from Scotty.... "one of my personal favorites btw" but acting like a complete fool is a whole nother ballgame people.
All I am saying is that if your going to play a game especially an online game, put just a little effort into your character and you will find that not only are you not a laughingstock but you will more than likely enjoy the game a bit more. Hell my Tauren Druid in WoW is named DblWhopper its certainly not serious but damn if it doesn't make me laugh a little.
