Have you ever started watching a cartoon/reading a comic attracted purely by the character design of one or more characters without searching for informations (like plot) beforehand but just diving blindly into it?
71 deviants saidYes, and it was awesome! UvU
11 deviants saidYes, but it was terrible °^°
11 deviants saidNope, I research carefully before watching/reading something u_u
Yes, it happens a lot!! Lately it happened with some BL webcomics such as "Avialae" and "A matter of life and death". I was intrigued by the art but had no clue about the plot. Totally worth it, they're my favourite now. <3
Yes, yes, absolutely. I do this all of the time. Most times I watch shows purely attracted by the characters design or ambient. I'm so glad to know there are many people like me out there. Even if the plot doesn't attract me a lot, if the drawing/art is beautiful to me, it's very probable I would watch it. Hyouka has great animation and the plot, when read, doesn't catch the attention (but I liked everything about it anyways) and it's my favourite anime. I watched Free! and Yuri!!! on Ice for the same reason. And many others.
I rather don't do that, though the art style might intrigue me and make me eager to watch something (but I read plot description anyway). It was like this with Gyakkyou Burai Kaiji and Mononoke (not Mononoke Hime, but Mononoke) for me and both shows happened to be amazing.
For me it usually depends on the circumstaces (I try to know more if the genre(s) is not between my favourites, or if it has a lot of episodes since I usually avoid to drop something even if it bores me), but I don't mind to take a leap into the unknown from time to time (oh, I noticed Mononoke too, it has a pretty unique style! It kind of reminds me of Gankutsuou (Never watched it though =3= ))
I watched Gankutsuou too. When I saw some screenshots from this series, I thought about Mononoke in an instant, too! Guess it's because of the textures used in both series, though I enjoyed Mononoke more than Gankutsuou. If you don't mind slow-paced series with slight supernatural vibe to it (something a bit similar to Mushishi), then it's definitely worth checking out, plus the art style creates one of a kind atmosphere
I watched it too. I can't say that's the character design that attracted me, since I got to know it for the "the characters are inspired to real writers" thing. Not that I dislike it, not at all (in particular, I love Atsushi's, especially the hairstyle )
I tend to fall for this a lot xD (the only thing I check beforehand is the genre)
The only ones that came to my mind at the moment are the Fate series (I just LOVE the character design - especially the outfits I didn't watch Fate/Stay Night though because I can't stand Rin) and Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku (some outfits were... really cute...).
