pelican - tagua carving by zephyrofgod pelican - tagua carving by zephyrofgod
Carved with a Dremel, this piece was a challenge piece for me, especially since this was the first of its kind. The Pelican in the Society for Creative Anachronism is one of the four SCA Bestowed Peerages, along with the Order of Chivalry, the Order of the Laurel, and the Order of Defense.

Companions of the Order of the Pelican (or 'Pelicans') have been recognized by the Crown for their exemplary service to the Kingdom and/or the Society, along with their consistent display of the virtues of Grace, Courtesy and Chivalric Demeanor. Their elevation is accompanied by a Patent of Arms (the highest level of arms).

I used Liquitex' Ink! to create the red blood drop, and I used a felt wheel to burn the area that would become the nest to create some contrast.  The back of the carving was made flat with a jeweller's saw and then carved with a Cross of Calatrava.
