Moon's Course
Moon whispered to Stars,
"Sisters, are you awake?"
Stars did not answer, but twinkled in heavenly bars,
Moon wilted and looked toward his friend Lake.
"Lake, come please and talk with me?"
But Lake did not answer,
Sighing, Moon glided over to Sea,
"Sea, come watch Dolphin, the nightly dancer."
Yet around the world, Moon did glide,
From Mountain top to Woody glade,
But everywhere all things seemed to hide,
From Moon, who bleakly brayed.
Then weeping Moon turned his back to Night,
And for everything all was dark,
Soon all missed the luster of light,
They sought for Moon's bright spark.
Finally Moon heard them and listened to their pleas,
Stars begged for their brother back,
While Squirrels pleaded in the trees,
For Moon to light their acorn stack.
Sun awoke and wondered why,
Her brother Moon was still up.
Moon explained why he was still in the sky,
And Sun knew what was up.
After a while all did agree,
That they would talk to Moon,
From the grand and mighty Sea,
Down to the small Loon.

Let the Roses Fall
Sun shine poured upon the field,
The daffodils were in bloom,
But down the road a hole was revealed,
Deep and dark, foretelling of doom.
A lengthy procession of ink black,
Trundled down the dusty road,
Orange stickers plastered on the back,
In front weighed down by some morbid load.
Out from the cars emerged people in black dress,
Bowed were all their heads,
On their faces were shown grief that the sun could not less',
Slow were their weary treads.
Six young men stepped forward,
Their foot steps did resound,
An uneasy glances was shared as they walked toward,
The place where their feet were bound.
From the back of the front they slowly lifted,
A heavy white case that on them did weigh,
Onto their shoulders their burden they shifted,
And for strength of arm and emotion they did pray.
When they placed their burden down with care,
A solemn and mournful chant was begun,
A strong and proud voice rose up in the prayer,
But then wavered and wept when it was done.
Then while the case was lower

Niffler Bestiary Page
Made because I have weird brainspace, this is inspired by medieval bestiaries. It's ink, gouache, and FineTec/Coliro gold on a 5"x7" pergamenata (vegetable vellum).
Submitted for an SCA publication, this is gouache and watercolour on Bristol board.  I had this 14th century falconer in my head, and I'm pleased as punch she ended up the way I saw her.  The peregrine is bird known within Europe within this time period, and I took a bit of liberties on the feathers in her bycocket hat (turns out the Lady Amherst's pheasant wasn't known in Europe until the 1800s - oops).

9"x12" Bristol
W&N, Holbein, and Royal Talens gouache
Gansai Tambi and Daniel Smith Watercolour
FineTec/Coliro gold palette

It's been a big year of travel.

On a whim, I was asked if I wanted to go visit the Middle East.

I got it cleared through work, and aside from travel woes (which may be a separate entry.  Haven't decided), it was a decent trip.  I got to see Himself and his mother.

I also got some pretty sweet photos, which have now been uploaded and are now prints.  I also got to go to the I. M. Pei-designed Museum of Islamic Art, and I'm inspired to create some SCA-period pieces inspired by the pieces I saw.

What's new in your world?
