Description
The Vossloh G 1700 offers a great chance for confusion since there are two very different locomotives with the name. The first, simply known as G 1700 BB, basically was a modified G 1206 and has since been stopped in favor of the older but more popular type. The second version, the G 1700-2 BB, is a completely new type. With a power output of 1700 kW (2280 HP) it's, as far as I know, the most powerful european center-cab locomotive currently available (Voith's Gravita 20 would be stronger, but hasn't been built or ordered yet).
V 2303 of the Mittelweserbahn, full NVR-number 92 80 1277 402-4 D-MWB, belongs to the second type and was built in 2003. It is reported (but I can't link to it since DA can't get it's character encoding straight) that it was last rented to a Berlin company called BEHALA for driver training, but to me it seems that it's back in normal MWB service here in Cologne West.

This engine design seems to be quite common and frequently used on european engines... No wonder so many countries have similar ones.
