Description

The Cargo Sprinter project tried to create a DMU for containers, and flopped. A few prototypes were constructed, but the project never went anywhere in a huge scale. So what happened to the prototypes? Well, one of them was broken up and converted to the "Cargo Mover", a single car with built-in moving power. The interesting thing is that this Cargo Mover is meant to operate fully automatically, without an engineer.

I have no idea what happened to the Cargo Mover project, but the prototype Cargo Mover sits on the private track of the RWTH Aachen, the university I'm a student at. If you are in Aachen, you'll find the track right at the Aachen West train station, which is a nice place for trainspotting anyway. On the very same track, you'll also find some parts of the Cargo Sprinter that was broken up to create the CM1, as it's called, such as the cabs. It was 690 001/690 501, by the way.

I'm sorry that the picture is so grainy. If someone is interested, I'll take a new one soonish (when the weather is good, if possible) and delete this one or move it to scraps.

Hat die RWTH ein eingenes Anschlussgleis? Steht da vielleicht noch was Anderes rum?
