So, let's start with the beginning...

All of us (and im quite sure everyone agree) started from the "oh, yes, i have seen that Zbrush program before, it's cool ??" to the "Man, i rock at this, love Zbrush", so with this series of tutorials recollections i will start with the needed material for the ones that are just beginning in this amazing world that it's sculpting, for the others that are a bit more advanced: Might worth a look, maybe you can pick a trick or two in one of them.

And the winners are !!:

1) Pixologic Zclassroom (Shocking, right ??) - This little and pretty helpfull pague it's full with little tutorials (5, 6 or 10 minutes) about almost everything you need to know about the program, from the classical "What does that button do ?" to the "Ok, it's ready for the 3D Printer", you will learn all the options the program have to sculpt, texture and render everything you can imagine.  (…).

2) Introduction to Zbrush by FlippedNormals: This tutorial it's a must see if you are starting Zbrush and dont what to mess too much with the technical stuff, here they explain the UI, Brushes, what is Dynamesh (dude, it's a bless from the goddes), what are subtools and some basic sculpting theory (In my case, it was pretty usefull). (

3) Mesh Extraction and Zremesher by XY01: I wish someone would have telled me about mesh extraction back in the day, it just make life easier, here you will learn what that is and why it's important, check it out. (

4) Sculpting a Fist in Zbrush by Isaac Oster: If you are interested in organic forms (and are a beginner) this video is for you (and for freeeee !!), this video it's an aplication of everything you saw in the previous ones, while it is a little long (about 110 minutes, give or take) you will understand Zbrush sculpting process a little better (the links to the parts 2 and 3 are in the video description). (

5) Youtube playlist by Gamestar Arts: The last recommendation it's a Youtube playlist that consist of 10 videos (with some of them 20 minutes long while others almost reach the 1 hour barrier), that list covers quite a lot of topics: Subtools, Alpha, Polypainting, Rendering, etc that will give you just the needed information to start sculpting right away. (…).

So, this list should give you the basics to Zbrush, however i cant cover every tutorial that it's out there, so if you know of a good basic Zbrush tutorial that can help other people post it in the comments, i know many will appreciate the gesture or if you are a new user that is having trouble with a basic topic also write your question in the comments, maybe some one knows a tutorial that can help you out.

By the way, i will try to stick with free tutorials, however when we move to the more advanced topics i will have to recommend some paid ones, from this very moment i will say that im not in anyway associated with them, so please, dont raise the pitchforks when we get there.

The next week i will write a recommendation of tutorials covering materials and rendering, so stay tuned and remember, practice make perfection.

Happy Sculpting !!

I recreated the Zbrush Grey matcap in Blender for uses in other 3D modeling softwares: Matcap - Zbrush Grey (Recreation)

Though made in blender may I have permission to submit this matcap into the group?

Thanks for the add. I'm currently looking for a good tutorial on creating stylized characters in Zbrush, as well as any sculpting tips that would help someone who is technically proficient enough with the software, but still struggling with producing art of merit. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi, I am an intermediate 3d artist. I actually never used zbrush before but I will be getting it next week and I can not wait. I just checked out the dynamesh video on Pixologic and am blown away. My background is in fine arts so I think I will really like the feeling of zbrush. I am looking forward to browsing all the great work in this group and hopefully making a contribution with some of my own. I think this software will be a game changer for me. I am most interested in character work but really love to model anything and everything :)
