25 expressions - Sarah by zazB 25 expressions - Sarah by zazB
I know everyone and their mother already did that exercise/meme, but I really needed the practice. I change my character designs every 2 weeks so it's been hard drawing the same face 25 times.
I wanted to try on Marine first but since the character is as expressive as a Terminator (or Steven Seagal) it would not have been much of a challenge.
I'll probably do more of them so I'm sorry for those already tired of seeing this thing already. (You can send me hate mail if that appease you).

Un des rares bons exemples dans ce type de 'meme' que j'ai pu voir sur dA l'heure actuelle.

I love how it's not just the arrangement of her features that determine mood, but the placement of your shadows, too. I don't think I've seen that in any other version of this exercise.

Really liked your expressions on these. Really clean and each defines the emotion quite well. Nice work.

Lovely thumbnails. Subtle, yet they portray her emotions without being over the top

Interesting. But the confused one doesn't look confused...

She's adorable. It's amazing how much difference even a slight variation in the eyes can make in meaning. This is one of my favorite ones I've seen of this excercise.

Ya know, i just went over these one by one, and I noticed something very interesting.
If you take a look at sad and flirty, you'll notice the lowered eye lashes, and then when I looked at the others that had the eye lashese lowered, it suddenly hit me, these are the expressions that seem to be the most feminine.. i guess thats why chicks look sexier to us when they flirt..

Sadness, confusion, tiredness, hollowness, despondency, drunkenness, sarcasm, and nausea?
Devilbless Featured By Owner Aug 31, 2009  Student
sure not all of them, but most of the ones you listed :)

When it's done this well, I don't care if I've seen it before.

I can never get tired of looking at these. Its so intresting to see the variations and different styles.

Speaking of your Marine character. That reminds me my spin instructor mentioned to me today. He said he could never tell if I was hurting or not because I didn't make any facial expression. I think its usually because I'm so focused on what I'm doing I just blank out. lol

I love these kinds of exercises. So awesome to see how different artists translate expressions. Great work!
miarrow Featured By Owner Jul 30, 2009
That's really cool. It's a good practice and always neat to see with different characters and different artists. I think I like irritated and tired the best, but they're all awesome.

I haven't done it yet (fail!).
Love seeing your version, it is always nice to compare with how others handle the expressions for their characters.
