And so it goes, all in a few seconds. Karma comes calling eventually.
A few little notes:
-Sans approaches from Gaster's blind side. Gaster mentioned being blind in that eye to Papyrus a long time ago. The same eye he blinded Sans in!
-It was the smoke that Sans was smelling in the last one.
-Seeing Alphys and seeing her with the brothers, and the full ramifications of what that means for him, shocks Gaster so badly that it gives Sans just enough time to reach him.
-If Gaster hadn't been so resistant about safety rails, they probably would've been finished in that section.
-Sans did not expect anyone to catch him.
-There was a small window of time where Papyrus could have caught Gaster with blue magic and saved him, and he would have, too... if Gaster hadn't severely traumatized Papyrus about using blue magic.
Edit - Check out Phoenix Prime's dub!

Alphys, Sans, Papyrus, Gaster (c) Undertale: Alphys feelin REAL bad now about setting the two mystery skeles free
Gaster is in a "Separate Space" in the game, and only referenced through manipulating the game data. So in reference to that, this comic's Canon is that the magic of the core cuts through reality in some fashion, so falling into it removed Gaster from this reality completely.
But like.. just what if per say..
Papyrus didn’t manage to catch Sans?
Would Sans be erased too?
Would Sans and Gaster be bickering forever in the void? Probably
These are the things I think about when reading the handplates comic.
god damn the plot thickens even more.
