Let me start out first with the fact that I am absolutely in love with this drawing. I don't generally give 5 stars on everything, but this was just too good to resist. The detail and the skill in this drawing is phenomenal. The blending of the different textures makes you really feel like you're sitting on the branch in the foreground, feeling the roughness of the bark, witnessing the scene before you. The impact that this picture is what really got me though. They say a picture can speak a thousand words, and that is an understatement with this drawing. It evokes such emotion- lust, a hint of sadness, note the title, and the incredible contrast of power and gentleness from both the feminine and masculine side. In short, this is an amazing drawing, and deserves much praise.

This is so lovely! :) I'm just staring at the leaves, all of those little details that bring the forest alive. It is inspiring to watch this, see all of the work you must have put into it and how it all wraps together beautifully and naturally. Working on greyscale really brings the lights and shadows onto the pedestal, making it so important to get it just right. I really enjoy watching the harmonious layers of lights and shadows and how everything pops out from the paper. I think it's really easy to make things disappear into the paper, to have everything in one layer and have no depth in there: this work doesn't have that problem! :) It is wonderfully executed! I was delighted to find this work from your gallery.

Just wondering (in my never-ending quest to practice digital colouring with my new tablet) do you mind if I colour this for you and repost it to dA, quoting you and this artwork in the description? I can't guarantee I'll do it justice but I'll certainly put a lot of time into it.

This is great! the lighting, shading, anatomy and lifelike bark on the trees must have taken a very long time! The only thing is bing a girl sitting on a tree like that would be very painful but then again I do have a bit more mass to hold up than a fairy :]

Oh my goodness. How do you guys do it with pencil only? :faint: This is so... so... I can't choose a word even! It looks like she's going to fly from the drawing and the twigs and leaves will creak because of the wind. Fantastic!!

Very special the bark of these trees, now live ones, adjusted to the smoothness of the whole drawing. The dim light, shades and shadows create a magical atmosphere. The fairy is wonderful, she's a fairy, afterall. Depth shows itself clearly, beyond fairy's legs. Technic is superb, thank you for that.

Great detail work. Very thought provoking. Although some others seem to have issues with the tree being a bit phallic, I like this aspect. Not that the tree is male, but that this tree perhaps givea comfort to this butterfly in its strength and steadfastness. Perhaps she is missing someone?

This is a lovely piece, but the comment about the tree being male almost ruined it for me. A tree is beyond our concepts of human sexuality and imposing something like that on it seems distasteful and unwarranted. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against sexuality - it is a very real part of nature, but when you start sexualizing a tree you take something away from it ... you turn something beautiful into just another phallic symbol. Look at the beauty of what you'd drawn here and ask - is that really what you want people to turn it into? I don't know, maybe it doesn't bother you ... but it bothered me.

In any event, it's a lovely picture.

Great you pointed that out. I didn't read that comment over in... 8 years... I would totally have wrote that with more subtlety if I had been grown up _ if ever I had written it, or even thought about it.
