Botanical Faery by zachlost Botanical Faery by zachlost
This will be my first "dark" piece.

I live near the Botanical Gardens here in Melbourne. It's a beautiful place - a must if you ever visit on a sunny day. Massive trees, beautiful flowers, perfectly manicured gardens. Every day, around the gardens, hundreds of people jog, walk and trail their little doggies.

It's nauseating. They even jog at NIGHT!

All these people constantly trying to be *fit*. In their sweaty perfectly toned bodies, listening to their walkmans, discmans and mp3 players. The guys really piss me off the most - they are usually *so* sweaty they *have* to take their tops off ... *sigh*

This is my ode to the creatures of the night who inhabit the darkness of the gardens - namely the hungry faery which picks off the over zealous night joggers.

as always - the devil is in the detail, have a closer look

Reminds me of a Boris Vallejo painting, but with the genders reversed. Nice touch with the ipod. And just where are those tentacles straying, hmm?

nice touch with the iPod. That makes it even more enjoyable.

Is there a hidden meaning or a story behind this piece?

You cant go anywhere without coming across an ipod!!! If an ice age came now..... Anyway, i love it even if your soiling the pure idea of my (yes MY) botanic gardens. A few less joggers appeals to me though, so unloose you pretties my friend! On botanical note, you've depicted a very amazonian cum african jungle landscape and the tan is a northern hemisphere garden =p . It does create the mood though through the dark colouring. The ipod creates a good effect too, the last light of a passing vox pop society in an enduring wilderness that will still be here long after all the ipods have died (and their jogger friends too!) Oh, one question, top-central there is a glowing rain-like dust....faery dust or rain?

thanks for the decent sized comment.

in retort: the amazon/rainforest section is pretty substantial in the Botanical Gardens. there's two sections which i can think off off the tope off my head - which you have probably not treked through. the additional vines work with the fae. they aren't really flora, more like fauna and tentacle like.

as for the iPod comment, i'm not sure how to deal with your obvious iPod envy ... so i'll leave you to soil yourself :)

Envy??!! I used to wage my own war against apple, nark. You fell into the trap, you conformist drone, now deal with the rap that comes with it *grin* good job though. The "fauna" works, and i have been through a few sections of the gardens, believe it or not :-P

Holy guacamole and other divine foodstuffs... this is... catching me at a loss for words, which has to be a first! there is something very attractive about this picture, in the sense it lures you in. You kind of take a first glance, then get curious and examine it closer, until you realise you've spent five solid minutes in a trance staring at the detail. Kind of makes me wonder if the faery lures the joggers in the same way. Hah, serves them right, assaulting my nostrils with their scent of exertion and making me feel guilty for not having been to the gym for so long...

Again your colour simply blows me away, and how you managed to create such a detailed piece in only twelve hours I dont think I'll ever know! the way you've created the texture of chest hair is amazing.

Makes me want to go jogging half naked through parks at night... :D

1) KFC often allows me to reach a height of nirvana, while anchoring me down with the sheer amount of fat i have digested after a sitting of 10 pieces (my record so far is 15 in one sitting, always assisted with a generous tub of gravy (without the potatos) )

2) i believe the beauty is in the way the eyes stare RIGHT AT YOU of the Fae.everything else is merely smoke and mirrors.

3) 12 hours because it was smaller than what i do now ... it was 3000 pixels wide, i deal with 5400 pixels wide these days and a 1 pixel brush is great for chest hair. just make sure you brush it in some direction.

4) don't go to the gym out of guilt. go out of lust.

5) don;t go jogging half naked. but if you do, make sure it's the bottom half, because we all need the comfort and support of a sports bra.

The first word out of my mouth when I saw this was "Whoa!" And this definitely constitutes a jaw drop. I love the darker edge to this piece. The level of realism is amazing... I've always been drawn to darker shades of blues and purples so it's really fun to see a sexy (and somewhat evil.... lol) Faery created out of the shades I find so pleasing. The little story really brings out the personality and I don't think it'd be quite the same if you hadn't done that. Yet again, an amazing piece, thanks for sending me the link!

simply beautiful. I am envious of your talents very much. I am still an amateur in PS painting and if I can even get a tenth of what you can do I will be happy. As for a crit of this I would say the only thing I have trouble with is the bluring of the foreground border. It is a nice touch to get the main focus on the characters, but I find it a little distracting. But other than that it is an unbelivable piece of art.

Awesome piece. This is interesting on so many levels. :D Spiteful, sensual, and satirical all at the sime time. (At least, that's my interpretation...) I love the iPod laying on the ground - it really shakes off the "first-glance" impression. You are trueley an excellent artist.

well THE house has a rock tiled floor but that doesnt match with my furniture, very old world king like style...so its gonna look a bit funky...
MY house is usally decorated by Angels and lighthouses...
Cause OF MY huge collection of Fairys peole just started getting me angels....Un able to tell the difference I GUESS :D

But MY kitchen is all light blue and white with different light house stuff... Mostly blue and white towels with blue glass..

THE living room is where my angels and faes hang out figures pictures art coasters..and such...very lovely pale pastel colors...but I JUST bought a new couch thats deep burnt crimson color with gold enlay and some dark wood..OH I love it...

but I am thinking of staying with those colors and changing the theme there too but not sure what....

and my bedroom is ruby red arabian look, with the ruby red netting and beads the huge red bedspread and a oriental lamp light thats made of silk and beads...

I loveeee to decorate..IF you cant tell...AND my other bathroom is all dolphins and mermaids.. :D
AH the glory of JOEIES house...
which is going to all be moved to the new house :D On the 20th or so :D
