Triceratops was a genus of horned dinosaur that lived in North America during the Late Cretaceous. Its length was 8–9 meters, and its weight was 6–10 tonnes. It had an enormous armored skull with a bony frill and three horns: one short horn above the nose and two long horns (90–130 cm) above the eyes. Triceratops used its horns as a weapon, both against predators like Tyrannosaurus rex, and against rival Triceratops bulls in battles over females and territory. They were also used for display and intra-specific interactions. Triceratops had a sharp beak and behind it a dental battery which enabled it to crop and eat tough vegetation, making it a very effective herbivore. Triceratops was the most common big dinosaur of its era - a fact that proves how successful Triceratops was.
