Ebay = imbecile

Journal Entry: Tue Jan 29, 2008, 11:59 PM
Ebay is so freaking stupid and ridiculous I'm just about done there. If you've been a seller on Ebay you will receive an email about their 'Reduced Listing Fees' which said:
You asked, we listened. We're reducing Insertion Fees and adjusting Final Value Fees to lower your up-front cost to sell on eBay. You wanted free Gallery, now you've got it--plus more feature discounts.

What the crap is that, do they think we are stupid???!! They lowered the insertion fees by a nickel and raised their final value fees by 66% from 5.25 to 8.75% and think we are actually making more now. NO EBAY YOU DIDNT LISTEN because you greedy morons are going to squeeze out all the sellers who are paying your damm salaries out of business and don't insult our intelligence by thinking we cant do our maths or by going hurrah that I'm going to lose money cuz u lowered the insertion fees and the gallery is free now (it shouldve been free in the first place) but u jack up prices on another end!!!! This is just ridiculous, usually I just take the fee increases in insertion costs as matters of rising prices for servers but 8.75% of our sales price jump is just too much that I just couldn't believe it and had to read the details like 5 times over. Oh yes and next you'll be increasing Paypal fees huh!!! Why the hell am I paying 40% of my sales to Ebay???

The other most idiotic feature I've encountered  is the new feedback policy:
"Sellers will no longer be able to leave negative or neutral Feedback for buyers." jawdrop!!! WHAT THE SHIT IS THAT GOOD FOR???!!!!
So I am forced to leave postitive feed back even though it was a stupid buyer who didn't read or the stupid post office who delays my packages or buyers out to scam me and I have no right to retaliate or warn other sellers abt dealing with them??? What a TRAIN load of BS!! Then wats the point of the friggin feedback for??? So only buyers are in charge of the deal?? PLEASE EBAY USE YOUR BRAINS IF YOU HAVE ANY OF THAT, it's the SELLERS who are running your godamm company. Without sellers, the buyers have NOTHING to come here for. Your stock prices are dropping and made a stupid decision to buy sykpe for 1billiion and what's the easy way out, YEAH! RAISE FEES AGAIN AND KILL THE SELLERS, ANYHOW THEY'RE SO STUPID THEY WON'T NOTICE!! YEA ALL SELLERS ARE CROOKS AREN'T WE? I tell you what ebay, I HOPE YOU CRASH AND BURN. GOOGLE WHERE ARE YOU JUST KILL OFF THIS DAMM HAZARD AND RELIEVE US OF ITS STUPIDITY!!! YOU GUYS READ THE FREAKING BOARDS, SELLERS ARE SAYING GOODBYE!!! What comes around goes around, community marketplace my ass.  I won't even go to the part of the shitty rules of 4.8 stars for powerseller status. Alot of sellers will lose powerseller status that way so guess what? Yes they're not entitled for discounts which means more money into ebay's pockets!!!

Oh wait, I forgot about this part where they say Paypal can hold your payments for 21 days if they suspect that the customer will be unsatisfied. WOW so they're psychics now!! I don't see the sense in that. I shall tell customers that I will only ship out after 21 days when paypal release the money to me! Simple, anyhow I'm just taking a leaf out of ebay's books! Screw the buyers right?!

I am SO sorry for the rant, I wouldn't be as pissed if Ebay didn't think we are stupid. Really really horrible company. Zero protection for sellers, haven for scammer buyers.

that's exactly why i stopped selling my stuff on ebay- half my profits went on fees!!! i was actually htinking of restarting !!! not happening now.

i was selling in the artisan bears category and it was useless.
alot of the stuff being sold were not from the original makers. and they were actually mass produced stuff (which kind of defeats the purpose of being srtisan anything)

ebay did nothing about it. it's just become one huge electronics store and garage sale.

i was thinking of setting up a storefront, not anymore. and yes the fees bites, I've grown to dislike ebay and giving half my hard earned money to scumbags just isn't worth it! yea and ebay usually don'tt bother with the right things cuz they don't mind earning off those fake artisans.

there's not much of a garage sale feeling anymore cuz small time sellers who wanna sell their knick knacks find it too expensive to list. mostly electronics and those useless 0.01 auctions like MISS-spelled auctions

this is why i'm loving etsy right now. the fees are no where near this, and there's more of a community feeling there.

i don't know if you've been caught with fake bidding before but i have.
people bid on your stuff (even if the prices get way out there) so when the auction finishes they get your bank details and then they go to ebay and claim someone else was bidding from their account.
so ebay cancels the auction and you get screwed for all the listing fees, the final value fee (for an item that never sold) and then you have to rewrite the auction and get screwed on the fees again. i was told there was nothing they could do about it!!! the best i could do was block the bidder (and then they just used another fake account anyway)

one month i got ripped off around $30-$40 bucks (extra on top of my other fees) because it happened so many times and i had an absolute fit and that's pretty much when i stopped using ebay.

and the 1c starting bids i don't get !!! i can't compete with this cause i have to at least cover my materials cost and then a small fee for my time.

haha yes I signed up with etsy, now i've just got to just submit things. But my art cards are auction based so etsy doesn't really help. most aceos don't sell on etsy unfortunately.

And yea that ebay still profiting on listing fees tho the transaction didn't count is just plain unfair. however you could have the sold to the 2nd highest bidder thing? that reminds me paypal does the same thing, when you receive money they charge a fee, when you refund they charge again this time to the buyer! and money paid from the paypal account balance (not by creditcard) also incurs a fee (which it shouldnt' even tho i have a premier account)! that is very sly of them, because that transaction does not cost them any processing fees, so they earn triple, quardrouple-fold just by encouraging pple to leave money in the account to pay for items!!

I hate 1 cent auctions, never looked at them. Just jack up the shipping!!

if there's no one else bidding you're stuck and if they use the buy now button you can't offer it to anyone else. you can only offer to the next person if they're willing to pay the price they bid. most people will get into a frenzy at the time and bid high then later after they think about it just decide to wait till the next one comes up for auction LOL i got so cranky after that happened.

and over the whole having to wait (10 days???) to put in a claim if people don't pay, that's not done on etsy. you don't pay the same day you buy (or contact the seller before hand) they just cancel the sale to you. had someone on ebay buy a few bears (worth a couple of hundred dollars) in one go and never pay. i wasn't the only one who got stuck. but by the time the bad feedback started coming in it was too late for all the people who sold to this person. then i was stuck having to wait to make the claim and giving it enough time before i could offer to anyone else (lucky i had a couple of collectors who really wanted them)

and yep i agree withthe paypal thing (i've got a premier account too) but it's the only way i can deal with overseas customers where about 90% of my business comes from. i try to build in a little cushion of a couple of dollars into my items for this kind of thing. oh and i just don't look at the fees that way i won't get cranky :D

phew yes that buy it now button really gets u hard lol! there's just too many things a scammer buyer/ bored imature one can do to get easy freebies. besides that ebay does earn money no matter who's at fault it's a win-win for them.

i'm joining the boycott (tho for a week maybe longer) that's hot on the discussion boards. I need the money but no way am i gonna welcome ebay's new policies by posting whatever meagre products i have & letting them rip me off!

and yes etsy does look very well for you ^^ maybe I'll submit some of my jewllery there!

the only problem for me is that ebay had a bigger exposure and i had a serious base of repeat buyers ther.

at etsy i'm still working up my viewer base. and hopefully etsy will start to get bigger. i know there's talk on the etsy forum boards about friends and people they know coming over from ebay.

i was on the boards the other day and found a link you might be interested in. it's about selling ACEO's on etsy. [link]

And the stupid idea of the month award goes to...

"Sellers will no longer be able to leave negative or neutral Feedback for buyers."

That really is incredible. O_o

One of my friends sells things on a regular basis on ebay (stuff the book store she helps run can't sell and any games she completes) and I know she's had hassle with bad customers before, as well as my aunt whose had her craft works bought by people on there and then resold as their own. (On one positive note she did once manage to buy back an item of hers for less than she sold it to them for.)

It's idiotic that these kind of customers can't receive the same treatment that bad sellers get.

As for the new price hikes... *looks at pile of unneeded computer parts in the ebay pile* ...crap!

indeed! actually the original phrase was a disguise of 'Buyers will only be able to receive positive Feedback.' but promptly rectified by all the shocked sellers on ebay on the forums lol. and it's just sad that ebay isn't what it promised to be when it started out. your auntie's case I've seen before, except pple claimed false non-receipt and resold the items. did ebay do anything about it? yes they sided with the scammers and they got a refund. unscrupulous!

I KNOW people start off good then as they get more and more popular they slack and forget who made them popular. it'll take them fizzle out because some other people is going to step in and make something better.

yes i totally agree! that is what everyone who's been burnt is thinking. we are all waiting for ebay to wind up because sellers can always take their biz elsewhere once a competition steps up, i believe that will be google since they definitely big enuf to do so
