Maned Wolf Sculpture by yuumei Maned Wolf Sculpture by yuumei
Another sculpture I made a while ago when I was still in high school. This is made of low fire sculptor clay, and colored with watercolor. It's about 10 inches in height and 11 inches in length. I don't remember how long it took.

I made this after going on an AP Bio zoo field trip and we had to do a little research on 50 animals. This was one of the animals on the list and I loved it so much that I made a sculpture of it. I think I didn't make the legs long enough....

Here's a little info on this amazing animal if you're interested. The Maned Wolf is a type of fox/wolf like canine that belongs in its own genus and has extremely long legs adapted to the high grass lands of South America. They use to be hunted because they were thought as a threat to humans and livestock, which was false, and they were also hunted for their eyeballs (wtf?) because it was thought to be a good luck charm. They are currently under government protection (unlike the wolves in America *coughdamnyouBushcough*) and they are near threatened/ vulnerable but their numbers are fairly stable and are not critically endangered.

He's like a symbol of brazilian's cerrado (something like savana), here we call it LOBO GUARÁ, i had the pleasure to see one of those on the zoo. I love them too, they are (still) not in danger, but if they keep destroying its habitat, that can change, fortunetly its forbidden to hunt the maned wolves, but the agriculture is still the main economical activity in Brazil, so through the years they have been loosing their territory, another aspect that contributes to it's deaths are the highways, they pass through their habitat, killing not only maned wolves, but other animals, its very sad (at least for me)...

i think they can be found in Peru and Argentina, but i'm not sure.

By the way the sculpture is AMAZING, after seeing this ill try to do something, not the maned wolf, at least not by now, i'll start with simple things haha

PS: sorry for my english, im still learning it (mostly by myself, reading online english-translated mangas haha)

the legs look quite okay, actually. I once drew a Maned Wolf, and I made the legs too long. but this sculpture looks OK.

I know this amazing animal..besides the giant anteater and the hyena, it's my favorite animal. You need to stop being so amazing. We need to have an artistic conversation. Or just a conversation in general. The art I have on here SUCKS, don't trust my personality by it..lol..if you're ever bored enough message me on here, eh?

I WUV YU TwT
Seeing this makes me ssooo happy XD and I will explain why in a true but slightly dramatized story(if yu wish skip over this rant you may but I promise it is at least a little entertaining)~

It all started in the class of Art 4 H Spring 2010 at Tullahoma High. The end of the year (& graduation) was drawing near. The small but brilliant class had just finished completing and partcially decorating their handmade sketchbooks. The last task left to complete was to portray themself as a mythical creature on the sketchbook cover. Everyone else had already picked something(like a fairy or a dragon) but one lone redhead(me) was determined to choose something completely different from the rest of the students. She had her heart set on being an animal changling but couldn't think of an animal that dsecribed her. Shortly before giving up in the midst of depressing complaints, a fellow student and friend approached her and asked ,"Have you ever heard of the Maned Wolf?" "No, I don't think I have," she replied naively. Her friend lead her to a computer and brought up a picture. The red head stared in awe at the beautiful creature while her friend explained why this lovely animal suited her so well:
1.) The Maned Wolf is the largest species of wolf known to still be alive=The girl was 5'11 with a curvy build
2.)red fur=...well I think yu can guess this one -_-
3.)thought to be a threat=most people find me to be wierd and/or scary when they first meet me but come to find I'm quite cuddly /\_/\
4.)threatened species=sniffsniff...scientists say red heads will die out some day...sniffsniff...damn dominant genes
The red head huged her friend tightly with a squeal/thank-yu exiting her mouth while she coughed out a,"Your welcome XP" Later that day, red went home to do a rough sketch. And low-in-behold two days later~a masterpiece was born!

~Thank-yu ssooo much blueneko8 for telling me about this beautiful beast. I luv yu always
And I'm glad you share in my love for this creature yuumei and I hope that they can be restored to their former glory someday /\_/\
