Showing Gratitude

Sun Oct 7, 2018, 5:00 AM

Sun and Shadow by Yuukon

A little while ago, I started this initiative called "Ten Things I Am Grateful For". Ever since, I noticed it has been picked up by quite a few people, and that really warms my heart. It's amazing to see people in our wonderful community get together and share the things they are grateful for, each in their own unique way, with their own unique things to be grateful for.

Because I am feeling grateful that so many people are sharing their gratitude, I wanted to collect all the grateful journals I have seen pop up so far and share them with you, and maybe inspire you to write one of your own as well, if you haven't yet. Heart

Here's mine: 10 Things I Am Grateful For

Below are the contributions of the following people: LadyLincoln, Endorell-Taelos, Queen-Kitty, SinistrosePhosphate, craftsbyblue, JericaWinters, ugnip, LualaDy, Amarantheans, IceSkatingCatPassion, PokeTitan, mrcrozier, LadySionis, Batsceba, ZoriaIsis, tmkahz, SAMDR01D, Fluchtsalat , Mouselemur

10 Things I Am Grateful For Because I was tagged by Yuukon but haven't got around to doing a journal until now and because I pretty much said ditto to hers. :shifty:
In no particular order the 10 things I am grateful for on DeviantArt are:
The Community
It probably goes without saying that the community is one of my main reasons why I keep coming back. DeviantArt wouldn't be around if it wasn't for the community. I love the community, people in it are generally kind and supportive and very willing to lend a hand in whatever you might need, whether it would be just a chat, some advice and critique on artworks or running a project or contest together.
The Friends I made

I made many friends on DeviantArt! Some through commissions and others through similar interests such as my novel project and artworks in general. Some of the friendships I have made are
15 Under 15 Feature 112Yuukon tagged me in her journal to talk about 10 things I'm grateful for. I've heard that it's great practice to write down 3 things each day that you're grateful for and to be honest, it's something I have tried to do as a practice and failed at several times :giggle:  Feel free to skip right through this and go onto the actual feature, if you have no interest in this :giggle:
But here are my choices!
1) I'm very thankful to have photography/art in my life. It would be so dull to live without creativity and extremely frustrating to live without a creative release. It has opened up my life in so many ways and helped me to meet so many beautiful people that I likely would have never met otherwise. I am so thankful that some of these people I can even call friends, I don't feel like I'm a super cool person, but if the coolness of my friends is any reflection on me, then I must be doing pretty well.
2) I'm very thankful for family who supports me and loves me uncondition
Ten things I am grateful for...I've been tagged again!
This time, by Yuukon and Amarantheans to do something slightly different: 10 Things I Am Grateful For / 10 Things I am Grateful For I really like that concept and hey, there are a lot of things to be grateful for on DA. You can complain about it all you want, but there are definitely something special within this community that you really can't get anywhere else. And we are going to go through them all. I dare say, some of them might even surprise you.
So, let's do our best "Top 10 count-down" impression and get to counting! :XD:
1. The Community
I still remember when I first showed up on DA, all these years ago. For someone who has never had a lot of confidence (or conviction) in his handiwork, the reception from the com
10 Things I'm Grateful ForI was inspired by SinistrosePhosphate, who wrote a beautiful list of things that he's grateful for on DA (Ten things I am grateful for...), to write a list of my own. Since I agree with pretty much everything he said, I tried to come up with as many different points as possible ;).
In no particular order, here are ten things that I'm grateful for on DA:
10. Daily Deviations
The wonderful thing about Daily Deviations is that an artist doesn't need to have hundreds or thousands or watchers to get featured on the front page. And with DDs, one can help bring undiscovered talent and artists who want to make a living off their works to the community's attention, potentially helping them widen their customer base. It's one of the many wonderful features that I think sets DA apart from a lot of other art and social media sites, and it's why I truly appreciate DDs and the wonderful CVs who work tirelessly to feature
<da:thumb id="762490787"/>  10 Things to be grateful forNever wrote a journal before,
but as I got tagged by the wonderful Yuukon , I take this as an oppurtunity to write my first entry. :eager:
The idea she had was to share 10 things which we are grateful for,
to point out more positivity and counteract all the negativity we experience lately.
That I consider as a really great idea,
so here is my list.
Some points are really really basic and more general, something that each and every one of us can be grateful for,
but it contains also some more personal thoughts.
1. Love
One of the most basic needs in life.
Whether there is your significant other or your family who is always there for you,
every human being needs to be loved and to have someone to give love to.
So why not be grateful that we have those persons in our life?
I think to be able to give and receive love is one of the gratest gifts in life.
I am so glad to have that special someone, I don't think I could live without.
We should all be grateful
10 Things I am Grateful forTagged by Nobody , issued by Nobody
1. Nobody
Because without him I would be here, doing what I do, heck I don't even know if I would even be alive. Because he's the best man, husband, friend, cook, manager, housekeeper, cookie maker, artist, gaming partner, adventure man, thrifting partner, supporter, goofball, awakened and openminded person. He just means the world to me, and it's not just love, he actually did so much to keep me alive, it's unbelievable. And honestly, I cannot imagine a world without him, I honestly don't know if I would have the strenght to deal with it.
2. Nobody
Because something called a best friend exists, and yes, they do grow on DA. Because I don't believe we met by accident! I had very good experiences on DA, on League, on Facebook, in life, but none that had been this solid and lasting in time! Because distance isn't something that will distance such a good relationship. Becau
10 Things I am Grateful For

Yuukon has issued a challenge. So in keeping with her positivity! As stated by Yuukon: Lately, we have dealt with some negativity here on DA. If you know me, you know I am not a big fan of that. So, to counteract that, I want to share 10 things I am grateful for right here on DA! Positivity boost, here we go!
Deviants: Without deviants, there would be no DA! I love them all. Sometimes we get it in our head that there are "bad" deviants out there, but in actuality, they are mostly misunderstood. I am sure there are some playing the role of a "bad" deviant, but we just need to see past our opinions and think of what they are going through.
Volunteers: There are more than just CVs keeping this place running, and many of them are hiding in plain site. These people don't always have the Seniority  or Volunteer
The Grateful Journal    The idea of this journal came from JericaWinters but she got it from Yuukon
List ten (10) things you are grateful for.
Bullet Blue The purpose is to bring positivity to a reader.
Ten Pieces of my Gratefulness:
Bullet Blue The ability to form sentences in two languages. This has helped me to make more online friends, since English is such a dominant language.
Bullet Blue The friends that I do have. They mean everything to me; without them, I wouldn't have been shaped to who I am today, online and in person.
Bullet Blue My boyfriend. Even if the current one and I don't work, any boyfriend I have will be something that I am grateful for. The guy is my family and love him with all that I

10 Things I Am Grateful ForHere we are in uncharted Journal entry territory!

This was suggested by the wonderful Yuukon!

And after last night and the here lately, I need this. Maybe someone else does too.

Note: These may or may not be in order.

1.) I am grateful for having a friend who I can call Papa, who is always there for me, always listening, and always loves it when I talk to Him, no matter what I do, or where I go, or what I say, even when it doesn’t always feel like He is near.

2.) I am grateful that my laptop battery hasn’t completely died yet, that the system itself is still going well for a 4 year old computer, and that the charger cord isn’t cracking yet.

3.) I am grateful for all my backyard friends, the cottontails and the birds, possums and raccoons that feel safe enough to call it home and trust me enough to visit with me.

4.) I am grateful for all the horses out at the farm where I used to ride. Visiting them every week
10 Things I'm Grateful For...
Thanks to my wonderful beloved friend SinistrosePhosphate, I've figured it's about time to calm things down and finally talk about all the things and people Deviantart has made me grateful for. Yeah I know I've been seen and heard ranting about DA's problems, but the truth is, I'm always happy I know I can come here and just be me when I need to geek out. So, without further ado, I want to share with you all what I love about DA and you.

5 Things I Am Grateful For
I was tagged by Yuukon to expose 10 good things I'm on about Deviantart:
the first is that here I met friends with whom I'm building some
10 Things I'm Grateful ForAlright Yuukon, you got me (not that it was a hard sell, haha) Here I'm going to write 10 things I'm grateful for, unless I get carried away and write more. I would love to hear what you guys are grateful for too if anybody else reads this one.
1. My job.
I work at a restaurant and sometimes I get fed up with it--customer service can be pretty difficult sometimes. Most people though, are really sweet and patient and generous. They trust me to listen to their allergies and make sure that they don't die during their meal, they tell me about their day, and they come to me and my coworkers to celebrate the best moments in their life (like birthdays, or to eat before homecoming), and that's pretty cool. Sometimes they come to us to take care of them when things aren't great, too, and even though I'm an empath and sometimes I have a hard time not taking their pain home with me, I get a different look at a lot of people's humanity. A lot of servers and people in customer

Things I Am Grateful For on DAI guess I was tagged by Yuukon to write this lol :D
I'm not exactly great at writing down my own emotions into words, so please understand
So, I haven't been on here a year yet, but I've already seen some amazing things around here. The creativity and the general atmosphere.
I was very nervous when I first joined up, and afraid of how people would see my artwork and writing. So here's a little thing I wrote of what I am grateful for :)
DA itself:
I don't exactly know the work that goes into this website, but I am so grateful to the people who created/run it. This site is very easy to work with and offers an extensive amount of pretty much anything to help aspiring artists.
And then there's you guys :)
As mentioned, I often have a hard time with my artwork. Be it in fear of ridicule or shattering any hope I have of being an artist. I honestly didn't know if I'd make it this far on DA
But you've all been so kind and patient, and it means so much. You guys are truly why I'm still here on
10 Things I am grateful forMy Daughter, growing curious and open-minded as she is.
My Husband.
I can breath Air to live, and it works even in my Sleep.
I am born in times of Peace, just like my Parents.
My Mother.
My Mother´s Fairytales and her Love for heartwarming, yet thoughtful Stories that she gently gave me as I was a Child.
Actually, another Mom Point: She also made me want to craft Things out of ordinary Objects, like Chestnuts.
All the Love I got in my Childhood, all the little Trips just a Day away that took us into wonderful Nature Sites or Ruined Castles.
The People dear to me, of course. Who knows what I would do without them? <3
There are still more Types of Animals and Plants on this Planet than Humans will destroy one Day.
This is Part of

by the wonderfully, inspiring Yuukon.
Ok, tbh, it is not yet Part of it, yet hopefully soon will be. :D (Big Grin)
10 Things We Are Grateful ForNo place, and no person, is perfect. We all know people who think they are; but I think most of us can readily admit  that perfection *can* be boring, so it's not perfect in the end after all.
Through my traineeship, I'm taking part in a "talent development course" and we're meant to discover our personal strengths. Because it's easier to build on something that's already there, than putting a lot of effort into developing something that's not present and might never be.
Personally (and I imagine a lot of people with me) I find it a lot easier to name a dozen negative things that I could or should work on, than to come up with one that's positive.
But when you regard something about you, or your situation, from a negative point of view, it doesn't necessarily mean you can't find something positive to counter it.
DA isn't a perfect place; we each have our gripes and wishes. But there are also a lot of good things that deserve as much attention as the negative especially since Eclip

Everyone can join in on this! You don't need to be tagged! I am inviting everyone who reads this to write their own journal and share the positivity.
Did I miss yours? Or are you going to write one? Please comment below

This is a great project!

Many artists are empaths, and many empaths are more prone to depression, so one project I started on my old account was "things that make my life worth living". It was something that was intended to be written by an individual in a better time frame so that whenever depression got worse for them they had a list to look back on and remind them of the good things they may be struggling to remember in that moment.
A similar vein to yours. Applause to you for sharing positivity!!!

About Eclipse and Dinosaurs

It's no secret I've had access to Eclipse for a while. I've had quite some time to thoroughly test it and to get used to it at my own speed. I've had ups and I've had downs, but before I get to that, let's get some stuff out of the way. This beautiful header image I am using is one @danlev used in this journal announcing beta testing for Eclipse. You can find this journal here, and I urge you: if you have access to Eclipse I am sure you'll have a lot of thoughts and feelings about it. But instead of ranting in random places, please use the feedback forms provided in @danlev's journal to send this to DA staff and the Eclipse Developing Team. If you do not use these forms, your thoughts will not end up with the right people. I'm all for writing journals and status update about Eclipse to share your thoughts with the community, but don't forget to share them with staff also.

I'm also absolutely supportive of you sharing your opinions on Eclipse with me in the comments below. However, I will not tolerate hate or other sorts of nasty crap. Be respectful. I'm human, not a machine. I have feelings too.

I also need you to remember that Eclipse is still in BETA. Beta means it's still in development. It means that several areas and things may not be working properly, or even working at all. It means that certain areas don't even exist yet in Eclipse (such as Forum, Chat and Groups). DA staff is working on this though, just be patient.

So, let's get started... again. I just found out there is no auto-save in Eclipse (yet) like we're used to in sta.sh writer, and my almost-finished-journal-about-Eclipse-written-in-Eclipse was eaten by the bugger.

And so am I!

Ok, off we go. Fasten your seatbelts, enjoy your beverage but most of all: have a safe trip.

I really want to start off with some positive thoughts about Eclipse. I've seen so much negativity surrounding it that I feel this really is necessary. Obviously, there are things I dislike as well. But I'll get to that in a moment. The Good

Bigger thumbs
I have been doing some browsing while hunting for art to put in my features lately, and I've been attempting to do so in Eclipse. It takes some getting used to, and some features (such as drag to collect) aren't working (yet), but I have definitely been enjoying the fact that art is now so very front and central on the browse page. The size of the thumbs is most definitely a huge improvement! I am aware this is not the case for all types of art- I am generalising. The Daily Deviation Page
I have checked the Daily Deviations daily for as long as I can remember. And for as long as I can remember, they have been shown as teeny tiny little thumbs on the page. Imagine how excited I got when I saw the size of them in Eclipse! They're huge! I think that's absolutely amazeballs, and I think it gives the DDs just a little bit back of that spotlight they deserve so much. Sure, it's no footer, but it's a start, right?! Dark & Light Mode
Dark and light modes have been a growing trend on many big websites these days. Think about Youtube, Twitter... I think it's a great addition to DA. Using dark mode when you just open up your computer in the morning so you don't get blinded by the brightness, or using light mode when you can't see a thing on your screen because the sun is ruining your view. It's a lovely way to customise our viewing experience. However, I have grown attached to the "ugly DA green" over the years. It's always been there, and I will certainly miss it. BUT, when we're all dinosaurs on this site and the new folk only knows Eclipse, we will be the ones who fondly remember the "ugly DA green" and will be able to look back and reminisce on it. Profile
The new profile looks very sleek. Streamlined. Modern! Oh, and did I mention bigger avatars? The header
I looooooove being able to upload this huge-ass-in-your-face header image. It's pretty great that we can no make ourselves (or commission someone!) a beautiful personalised header/banner for our pages. You can do so many things with it, like feature your favourite piece of your own artwork, the custom thing I just mentioned... or just random potatoes. The possibilities are endless.

The Bad

No Journal Skins
I grew up with DA journal skins. First we had the "super ugly DA green" standard skins, and over time, people started uploading their own for others to use, people offered them through commissions and so on. I am one of those deviants who has commissioned artists to make me a beautiful journal skin, and yes, I am displeased about the fact that they are going. Not only are journal skins a part of who you are on DA, they are also a very useful tool in quickly identifying which person, group or project the journal originates from. I will very much miss them. In return, we got a header image in our journals. This tool will put the first image in your journal as your header (which you may have seen in my journal if you're reading this on Eclipse), but I am really missing some customisation within. I could be as simple as being able to upload a custom image to your header, without it having to be in the journal. Or perhaps being able to pick which of your featured image you want as a header, and so on. Sure, it's not journal skins, but it would be something. And something is always better than nothing. No Custom Boxes
This has been a painful subject within the community. Custom boxes are incredibly useful if you want to display stuff that cannot be found in any other widget. It can hold content you want to share, which makes them unique to all of us. I have heavily used them over the past years, and like with journal skins, I am very unhappy about the fact that they are going. I don't need all the CSS (which, yes, I miss!), but being able to put information on my profile that I want there is definitely important to me. Categories
I think of all the things listed in the bad sections, categories is my biggest issue. If you have browsed in Eclipse (and hopefully, you found the categories tool too), you may have noticed subcategories have poofed. Vanished. Skedaddled. I have a weekly feature series that I create based on those photography subcategories. I love browsing just one kind of photography. I do not like tags at all. Categories are a mess. And while I understand where the choice came from, it's simply making my browsing-life harder.Dark & Light mode
As great as having a choice between dark and light mode is, it has to be comfortable to the eyes. I have been typing on this journal for a while and the white of the writer is really straining on the eyes. The light mode is too light, while the dark mode simply is too dark. Dark and light modes work amazingly when used in grey tones, because those aren't straining the eyes too much. Right now, I'm getting a headache. Profile
The profile looks sleek, and modern, yes. But it also has a lot of wasted space. It has nice widgets that could be even better with some personalisation options. A good example of that is the "posts" widget, which is displayed below your ID/About widget. Since the day I started creating art features, they have had a very prominent place on my profile. The posts widget simply lists the titles and no details, while at the same time showing polls and status updates. I would love to be able to show one longer journal, like we can do now. Or customise what shows up in that widget. Personally, I just want my journals there. Status and polls don't matter that much. I can find them elsewhere now too. No autosave mode on writer
I lost my previous journal. Need I say more?

Some more good

As a DA Dinosaur, I've seen many changes through the years. Some good, some bad, and some, like Eclipse, take some time to get used to but turn out pretty okay in the end. We've always survived. And even if we don't always agree with all the changes, in the end, we have always embraced them in one way or another. We cannot forget how many amazing humans there are at DA headquarters working their behinds off to provide us with a beautiful place to hang out with our friends and enjoy art. Change isn't easy. It never is. But we'll get through it. We always have, and I don't doubt we will this time.

I would be lying if I said I liked Eclipse from the start. In fact, I was very unhappy. However, I am also that kind of person who doesn't deal well with change. And that's why I am grateful DA staff have given us a chance to ease ourselves into Eclipse. We've been given the opportunity to provide them with valuable insights as to what our DA is and how we use our DA. DA has always been my online home, I have always loved being here. And while I'm going to need some more time to really adjust to all these gigantic changes like most of us, I am not going anywhere, even if I might have said so otherwise in the past.

I'll miss our dinosaur DA... but we cannot stop moving forward.

And with that, I'll have Gordon Ramsay convey the last bit of my thoughts to you.

Have you tried Eclipse? What did you think? How did you experience it? Tell me in the comments!

Edit: I just noticed my formatting on the lists is a bit funny. Bugs for breakfast, anyone?
