Artisan Crafts Week

So, today I am here with our lovely Artisan Crafts CV, Talty. We will be diving into the Artisan Crafts gallery here on DeviantArt together, and showcase some of our favourites. But first, who is Talty?

Most people know you as the Community Volunteer for Artisan Crafts, but can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
:icontalty:

Well I am a perpetual student, hoping to soon become a researcher. I have been married for 3 years, I live with my husband and our 5 furbabies: 4 cats and 1 dog. I discovered polymer clay years ago thanks to DA, and I've been hooked ever since. I eventually got involved in the crafting community and I loved it, it's very welcoming, charming and generous. I learned more, I started making features, I exchanged comments with other crafters... I just love it.

When and why did you start on crafting?
:icontalty:

Looking back, I have crafted my whole life. I come from a long dynasty of crocheters, and one of my earlier memories is from my mom teaching me how to crochet (I never learned by the way, I still live in shame). I also have memories of being very little and being taught how to embroider flowers by my mom. After that, each year my mom would put me on different summer courses to keep me entertained, I remembering sewing, creating felt decorations, fabric painting, creating jewelry, painting on ceramic, and a bit of cross stitching. I also took 6 years of fine art classes, I learned a lot but I remember that my favorite topic was always sculpting. I was destined to be a crafter. About... 8 years ago I think? I discovered polymer clay and I found my true calling. I still do other crafty stuff, but polymer clay has earned my heart <3

Do you have any tips for other crafters out there?
:icontalty:

Reach out to one another. Share your work, share tutorials, comment on other people's work, keep improving by being part of the community. I have noticed this works beautifully on DA, and I hope it will never be lost. I have seen people start, learn and become skilled in craft in this community, just by asking for tips, listening to feedback, and sharing their work to keep receiving input from the community. It really works! Be active part of the community, it's incredible.

Also, whatever you do - love it. There's so many crafts to choose from, so be sure to pick one that clicks with you. If you wake up eager to craft, and go to bed planning what you'll do tomorrow... that's your calling.

When putting your work out there, never neglect the presentation. People can't see how beautiful your craft is in real life, so you have to make your best to show it off in a photo. Take the best photos that you can, you will learn what things work best for you... but some things that always work is a clutter free background, good illumination, a clean setting and taking lot of different angles.

If you're thinking about selling your work, please never underestimate your skills and your worth. Don't think that your work is simple and worthless. Don't think that you should start selling cheap to attract costumers. I would like every crafter to know their worth and price themselves accordingly. Be proud of your work!

Now: Feature time!

Talty and I have picked some of our favourites from the gallery!
Enjoy!

T cell with Antibody Fused Glass Coasters by trilobiteglassworks
TaltyI love this crafter's whole gallery. I love how she mixes fused glass and science, this coaster is a beautiful example.

Ball and Chain by TheTerezkaD
Talty
This shows a great deal of skill in soutache, even including 3D elements. The artist also showed a lot of talent blending the colors and patterns tastefully.

Custom - Princess Alicia Finnston II Bead Dress by pinkythepink
Yuukon: pinkythepink creates beautiful, princess-like dresses, that would be a dream to wear, out of tiny beads.

Dalai Lama Duct Tape Art by DuctTapeDesigns
Talty: If you try to guess how was this made, I bet no one would say "duct tape". But I love that this crafter can create such colorful, detailed and beautiful using only duct tape. She has been improving a lot lately, this time she pushed herself a bit further and added a quote! Those letters look fancy.

Aurora the Chinchilla Mini-Rex by phacelia
Yuukon: If you know me (or have seen my icon), you'll know I love bunnies. This is a beautiful, detailed sculpture of a bunny that I would love to add to my collection of bunnies!

Bridal Peacock by FearlessFibreArts
Talty: It always amazes me when a crafter can take a raw material and create art with it. This artist spun her own yarn and then knitted something quite unique, light, and elegant.

Wisteria Falls by Burned-Out-Firefly
TaltyThis beautiful headpiece perfectly replicates the delicacy of the flowers. Kanzashi is a quite underappreciated craft.

Rococo Princess Serenity cosplay set details by lady-narven
Yuukon: Did I mention yet that I love princess-dresses? I love all of the details about this gorgeous dress.

Jacket for a doll by striped-box
Talty: Every stitch and seam of a real jacket was perfectly replicated in doll size. The crafter made sure to add the metal pieces and lining for extra realism. It just amazes me that it's possible to create something this detailed in such a small scale.

Faery kiss by SinistrosePhosphate
Yuukon: I love every detail of this beautiful papercraft. It's something that I imagine, would take a lot of time and patience!

Lion by AlexandreMahu
TaltyA beautiful and powerful example of marquetry. The artist chose the different types of wood, and cut them precisely to create the image.

Statue Of Liberty by VaishaliRastogi
Talty
I love that this sculpture was made using quilling, which involves creating coils of thin strips of paper. I can only imagine the amount of time and paper (and patience!) that was required to create this.

Golden and Blue flowers. Artificial Light Bouquet by smallparadise
Yuukon: When I see these beautiful, handmade flowers, I can only imagine how they would light up my living room.

Carrot in the Wild by Chuncarv
Talty
Delicate, dainty and thin flowers made out of carrots. Need I say more to explain why this is so AWESOME?

Shoes for Shelton by BBEEshoes
Talty: It's impressive how this crafter managed to reproduce the original in such a difficult canvas, without missing a single detail.

Don't forget to support these awesome crafters and check out their gallery!

:knitting:

PS: Don't forget to send Talty lots and lots of suggestions for Daily Deviations! She'll love you forever.

Today, Talty and I explore the Artisan Crafts Gallery as part of Artisan Crafts Week at projecteducate
