I just wanted to draw that jungle dork, and give him the length of the hair he is actually supposed to have if he never trimmed it :XD:

So, have you ever seen a frog howling at the moon on the top of a cliff? :XD: That's our Mowgli!

--
Mowgli comes from "The Jungle Book" by Rudyard Kipling.

Drawn: December '06

If I get to the jungle, Mowgli might do this behind me, get me and keep me as his mate as if I'm the Persephone of the city and he's like hades of the jungle.

I think this picture of Mowgli rocks! I love the animal-stance hes in, but the look in his face is charming. Definiteli in my Favs collection.
(he would look cool in a small loincloth if you draw him standing or upright- maybe swinging from a vine aka. a Jungle boy...)

Tis true, and he would have much longer hair, I doubt he really had anyway of trimming it, and I don't recall him ever making any weapons or cutting utensils.
My parents used to call me Mogli sometimes if i was running about in just my undies when I was little. I suppose I fit the part persay, being from India and all. Only difference is, tigers are my friends X3.

Yup, I always find it very funny how nearly all movies and cartoons have Mowgli with that nicely trimmed hair XD;; Such a shame!!
Also, it actually could make an awesome idea for a fanfic with an alternate universe where Mowgli becomes friends with Sher-Khan XD
And also if you were an actor and played Mowgli I think it would be my favorite Jungle Book film!! ^__^

Yeah I'm not terribly crazy that Sher-Kahn is portrayed as evil. Tigers only go after people when they're desperate for food or if humans have invaded into their territory. In my mind I don't think Sher-Khan makes the best of "villains".
Now that I recall though in the original story doesn't Mowgli actually kill Sher-Khan, skin him, and wear his pelt?
I suppose then he could cut his hair then, but I've a feeling Mowgli was never too worried about it. But heck it would be LONG like you'd depicted here if he never cut it since infancy.
Though wouldn't it be more wavy or curly? It's a common trait compared to straight hair, not that it wouldn't be possible, genetics are hit and miss with happy accidents to boot!

I could play Mowgli! XD if I played him now I'd probably be an older version but people HAVE mistaken me for being 14. I suppose I could strip, throw on some red cloth undies or completely in the nude, which Mowgli probably was compared to story illustrations due to censorship, and find a tiggie to pose with and throw in a jungle backdrop and foreground elements, and grow my hair out, it grows fast, and there you'd have it!
That would be a fun photo shoot if made possible. I'd probably have to call in a trained tiger though, I wouldn't want to get mauled lol.

Well, if you get mauled, it'd make it closer to the spirit of the book XD Okie, just kidding!! That would make a great photo shoot ^_^

You could be right about more wavy hair, I don't think I've ever seen an Indian guy with long hair, so I wouldn't know ^^; Speaking of other Indians also called Native Americans, their long hair is actually very straight and some guys I've seen had extremely long hair, I always wondered how many years it took to grow.

According to the book Mowgli had a long hair and very beautiful eyes and was pretty skinny, so his parents couldn't even recognize him at first after he got back from the jungle. It doesn't mention how long his hair was but it says that when Akella was dying, Mowgli stood over him, fully nude and with his black hair spread all over his shoulders... Well, I still think Mowgli could have had all the means to trim his hair (badly, of course) or even maybe use lianes or something to tie his hair in a more comfortable way though that's unlikely :XD:

That is true, Native Americans do usually have long straight hair,
and tend to almost looks more oriental Asian or Eskimo like.
On a side note I personally don't like the confusion of Indian that people usually have.
Not to say you have them confused but most people, if I bring up Indian they always think
Native American which drives me nuts. If I die and see Christopher Columbus I'm gonna kick him in the balls for that lol.

But yeah back to hair, mine starts to wave about 2-3 inches out then starts to curl and depending what part of my head, say the sides,
they're always going to start to curl about a half inch out, where as a top or my bangs or the back portion of my hair gets wavy then curls. Now if my hair is wet, then it curls much faster if not brushed after drying and it gets rather poof.
I bet given say a year my hair would probably be down to my butt if I let it grow, it grows rather fast!

As for the mauling I bet that could be achieved with prosthetics or some photoshop work and make up!

LOL! I hate the whole confusion with the word "Indian", too XD; I usually try to put "from India" instead or otherwise mention India, so it's clear :3

Hehe, if you really let it grow so much you'd be the first Indian guy I know who has a long hair XD Although I'm pretty sure there are metal bands in India, too :3

I usually say "Asian Indian" or like said "From India" when I bring up anything related to my ethnicity.
There's a serious difference between the two. Indians are completely exotic compared to Native Americans.
It's like the difference from a canary to a macaw or parrot. Both birds but one is quite exotic!

I doubt my parents would allow my hair to be that long unless I lived on my own.
But even then it might bother me being too long. Also with my face I would probably look quite feminine with long hair and I know that would drive my parents nuts lol. It's pretty long right now, it's down to my ears, just above and my bangs go halfway down my nose. In the back hits my collar line.

I really should do more contortion pictures myself, as in painting them.
I'm busy with jobs now so those must wait for the time being.

Nice sense of accuracy. Not to mention the Level of Realism. I like those.
True, Kipling's "Jungle Book" has always stood the test of time as not only good literature, but splendid character development for both adults AND the lil' screaming brats.
It's always embarrassing to have Mowgli covered up with a loincloth or a stupid, highly professionally folded diaper, cause it might send a wrong message to kids regarding their Humanity.

Oh yes, one other thing. Speaking of realism, HERE'S something that no one thinks of:
Are there any finger/toenail trimmers in da' jungle?
That's a pretty good Manicure he has there.

Oh my God, I'd never dare to draw Mowgli in a diaper, even a loincloth seems silly for the character. The only thing Mowgli ever wore on himself was a knife, I think.
Someone linked me to this beautiful artist who also drew Mowgli: [link] - check out the images starting with "m", I personally think tis' the most genious Mowgli series ever.

I'm not sure what to say about his nails...

It was a dagger that he was carrying with him along with a strap across his shoulder. [link]

And yeah, drawing Any kind of jungle dude in a cloth girded about da' midsection is kinda stupid looking. I mean really, WHERE would he get? An abandon Fruit of the Loom or something? Yeesh.
So if anyone was reading the book, the reader them self would already perseve on his sorry state, so there it is.
But then you DO have an animated/live action Mowgli on screen EXACTLY as he is portrayed in Da' book, you get all these "Sensible" type O' fellows that come up & say:
"Oh look, He's NEKKID!! I can see THIS and THAT and HERE and THERE and EVERYWHERE!!!"
Then by then, it's obvious that 'They' are the problem and not the corrected medium. Anyone who has the rotted brains to that kind of crap is asking for some stares & stuff.

Oh, another thing. I was surfing the "Jungle Book" off Mamma.com & found THIS site with your art on it for the "6th November 2007" on it's Homepage: [link]

Actually they didn't miss it - scroll down to where it says "Miscellaneous Art Links", and at the bottom right there are links to "Three pictures - Vladimir Emelianov" (which I guess is what Владимир Емельянов says in Roman letters). Very nice pen and ink over watercolour (I assume) artwork.

~DTWX's link is by Barry Blair, creator of Elflord comics, who's unfortunately got a bit of a reputation for liking nude and semi-nude boys. But hey, this is ART we're talking about here, not porn.

One of my favourite Jungle Book artists is Pierre Joubert of France, who had a long and distinguished artistic career.
