Middle of a Memory
A long nosed man looked down into his whiskey and let a sigh escape his lips. He was alone at a bar trying to get away for a while, between his past as an assassin and trying to raise enough money for medical bills, he was stressed out to say the least. He swirled the amber colored liquid absentmindedly before letting out another sigh and draining the cup. He gestured to the bartender who immediately came over.
“Rough day?” a beautiful (h/c) girl asked from behind the counter, while refilling his glass. He glanced at her and harshly laughed, “Rough life, more like.” She looked at him sympathetically and slid the glass towards Kaku.
“My name is ____” she finished lamely, getting the impression that he didn’t want to talk any further.
“Kaku” he replied shortly looking down towards his glass once again.
“Well Kaku, I get off in 5 minutes, want to do some forgetting with me?” she said. He looked up in surprise as if really seeing her for the first time. He gave a small smile after looking into (e/c) eyes, that were full of promise. She gave him a grin when he nodded. He stared after her as she quickly cleaned up a few remaining glasses behind the bar and gave a small shout to her coworker that she was leaving.
She hopped over the bar next to him and grabbed his hand before heading off towards the small and almost deserted dance floor. She giggled as he stumbled awkwardly following her. He listened to the melodic sound and immediately his mood was lifted. He just chuckled and shook his head as she pulled the tall man towards her body. They began swaying in time to the slow country song. They murmured quietly about their lives and he began to open up slightly. He had learned about her life and how she had grown up here but wished for more than anything to explore the world. Little by little the tension began leaving his body as they leaned closer together. They had been talking for hours before they realized how late it had gotten. She smiled up at him, relieved knowing that she had lessened some of the stress that seemed taut within his body.
“___?” She turned when she heard shouts of her name. The woman waved at her rowdy group of friends, a few in particular came over and grabbed her hands pulling her away from the capped man. She protested and tried to pull away immediately but they were incredibly strong when drunk. She turned her head and shot Kaku an apologetic look, who simply chuckled once more and shook his hands to say it was alright. As she was pulled from his sight, he took off his black cap and ran a hand through his hair. He sighed once more feeling the stress come back full force as he realized he did not have a way to contact the beautiful girl. He knew that she would plague his mind for the rest of the night. He gazed at the door longingly, hoping she would come back again. But when he realized she was gone for the night he headed to the door. He walked leisurely out of the small bar and into the warm summer air.
Baby, it just took one look at you
For me to change my one drink order to two
Like we already knew each other
Like we been talking all night
About a minute into our first dance
We got blindsided by your friends
All in a hurry like you had to go
Didn't they know you can't leave someone
Girl, you can't leave someone
In the middle of a dance floor all alone
In the middle of an old school country song
Right when I was just about to lean on in
Why'd you have to go then?
Baby, in the middle of the glow of the neon light
It shoulda, coulda, woulda been the night of our lives
Girl, it ain't right, no
How you gonna leave me right in the middle of a memory?
He glanced up at the moon and admired it’s ethereal beauty for a moment and his thoughts wandered back to the girl who had been pulled away. A call of his name pulled him from his thoughts and he looked to see a familiar form jogging towards him. He smiled when he saw it was the (h/c) from before, she caught up to him and leaned a hand on his arm and bent down to catch her breath. She smiled at him sheepishly before standing on her tip toes and giving him a chaste kiss. She pulled away, laughed at his wide mouthed expression and slipped a small piece of paper into his hand. And just as quickly as she had arrived, she was gone. He looked down at the paper to see a string of numbers and felt his heart flutter in his chest.
The lyrics are taken from the song, "Middle of a Memory" by Cole Swindell. I'm in a country kind of phase so there might be quite a few song fanfics coming your way! I don't own anything as usual and let me know what you think!
