Or: “NEEEEEEEEEEEEERD :U”
I had a lot of trouble figuring out exactly what to do with Risa. Then I had an anime convention coming, and eventually saw a lot of nerd jokes in the process.
I figured out exactly what I wanted to do with Risa. What’s more, she seems like the kind of person I could use elsewhere. So before I go into her mooky abilities, it’s time for some backstory!
Risa Kayama is proof that even a Japanese-American can be an utter weeaboo, though she at least has the courage to admit that she’s a complete and total anime and gaming nerd with obvious fujoshi tendencies. Unfortunately, she’s having trouble getting work at any of her preferred stores, so as a way to prove herself, make herself better at speaking in public, and perhaps to get a lucrative side thing going, she’s attempting to become an internet personality that focuses on anime, video games, and Japanese culture in general, having worked together a fairly impressive video-making and streaming set-up.
However, she’s been a bit less than successful. It seems that no matter what she tries, it doesn’t seem to bring in many viewers. She’s tried cosplay videos, attempted to teach Japanese, reviewed anime, and streamed her (actually quite competent) attempts at speedrunning games, but nothing seems to work. This said, it doesn’t get her down very much, and she’s unwilling to completely debase herself – she’s not afraid to show SOME skin to boost her appeal, but she’s the type to wear exercise shorts under her skirt – the star of the show is meant to be Risa herself, not just her boobs and ass (makes for less abjectly terrible comment sections, too).
Still, while Risa’s no fool, is generally well-adjusted, and tries not to act like a pervert… Well, you can see things slip a bit if she thinks there’s even a hint of two guys kissing. And she may or may not have offered deals involving glomping or touching for live-action yaoi. She may have gotten yelled at during a convention once or twice.
(As for how she can also be a mook? Mook-type Risa was having more severe money problems, and decided to look up job openings online. She found out too late that the ad she followed up on was a lie, but although she really isn’t on board with the idea of hurting people for money and fights accordingly, she definitely remembers the “you’re going to fight or else” tone her new boss had, and decided to just go minimal-effort so she doesn’t get in more trouble than she already has.)
Who knows why a wannabe Internet Personality wants in on a big brawl where there’s going to be more hits than there were in her latest video, but she’s ready and willing to fight for the latest story to tell. Being more than a bit of a nerd, she’s more intelligent than some of her fellow fighters; luckily she lacks a bit of the necessary gumption to make her as dangerous as she could be.
--In general, Risa isn’t much more than a slight step up from Maria. She is more intelligent and will try to use her range to her advantage, but is typically rather slow and passive.
A) Risa will perform a side-kick. It doesn’t do much damage on its own.
Combo A) Risa will perform a side-kick, followed by another, followed by a standing roundhouse kick that knocks you down. The roundhouse kick does a bit more damage than the side-kick.
B) Risa performs a sweep-kick. This causes light damage but knocks you over. It has a slight wind-up.
C) Risa will jump up and kick you in the face. This causes moderate damage and knocks you down, but has a slight wind-up, and if she misses, there’s also slight cool-down before she can react again.
D) Risa will jump at you and perform a hurricanrana if she connects. This causes moderate-high damage. If the jump misses, there will be a cool-down before she can react.
Risa will always have Attack A, Combo A, and B available. She will also have attacks C and D available depending on palette-swap and game progression.
“Louise” is the toughest of the bunch. She will have all attacks available, but D has a shorter animation that doesn’t require her to jump in order to perform it, and has no cool-down if she misses.
ONLY ONE CAN HAVE THAT HAIR STYLE!
How many fans?
In other words, total weeb junkyard.
