From Fisherfield to Torridon
Location:  The view from one of the Fisherfield Munros towards Slioch and Torridon in the far distance.  Wester Ross, Highlands, Scotland.
________
One of my favourite types of mountain shots.  Shades of blue as overlapping ridges and buttresses give way to the horizon.

Taken on a hiking and camping trip back in 2014 when I climbed a number of Munros in Torridon, Fisherfield and An Teallach.

Fisherfield Forest
Lochan Feith Mhic' illean, Fisherfield Forest, Wester Ross, Highlands, Scotland
_____________
A forest doesn't always have trees.  In Scotland, forests were places reserved for deer stalking.  The Fisherfield Forest is part of an area called 'The Great Wilderness as it lacks any settlements or roads.  It contains the most remote mountains in all of Scotland, which is what drew me there back in 2014.  I took some time off work and made my way first to Torridon, next to the Fisherfield 6 and finished with An Teallach, camping all along the way.

It took me a full day to complete these 6 mountains.  The previous night I camped by Lochan Fada.  I was sick that evening and didn't manage to eat much.  Still low on energy in the morning, I got off to a slow start, only reaching the coll between Beinn Tarsuinn and Meall Garbh by midday with six munros and a circular route of 25km and over 2000m of ascent and decent to tackle.  I stashed my camping equipment at the coll as I would be finishing at the same spot 10 hours or so later.  Leaving the weight behind gave me renewed energy and enjoyed the hiking much more.  Darkness hit before I reached my camping equipment and I almost went down the wrong way from the final mountain, a sheer drop telling me I needed to do a u-turn.  After a little bit of searching, I found my equipment and descended down to a sheltered Lochan to pitch my tent.  It rained all night, which made everything super slippy the next day and I couldn't keep my boots dry.  The views were terrific, the ridges were playful and I didn't see a single person that day.

I didn't stop much to take photographs that day as I was under time pressure and the light was not amazing.  But as I reached this little lochan at 5.30pm, some sun made it through to light up the shore grasses.  I'm a sucker for these sorts of tones.  It was a fleeting scene but worth capturing and it gave me time to eye up the mountains still to climb.

Valle de Dali
This part of Reserva Nacional de Fauna Andina Eduardo Avaroa is known as Dali Valley because of the surreal landscapes.  There are strange wind sculpted rock formations jutting out of the otherwise bare plains.  Minerals bleed from volcanoes in great bands and shallow valleys on the slopes makes this look like a landscape that is melting.  There is no shelter from the sun either and the temperature is only kept cool by the high altitude (4000-5000m)

Dust devil, Salar de Chiguana, Bolivia
Not quite a tornado, but all the same I was quite excited to see one of these!  I was a huge fan of the film 'Twister' when I was a kid and I've always wanted to see one in real life. Up in the deserts and altiplanos of Bolivia, you will encounter many of these.

I took this photograph on a tour from San Pedro de Atacama, Chile to Uyuni, Bolivia.  Our trip went to 5000m above sea level and we visited red lagoons, geysers, volcanoes, thermal springs, salt flats and stone trees.

Just noticed the colour banding in the sky, so I will re-edit this at some stage.

Greetings deviants!

Not sure if any of my old dA friends are still on here, or who reads these things now but I'm just letting you know I will be away for quite a while.

I am travelling to Chile on Wednesday and will be spending the next few months tramping around South America and after that, who knows?  I will start off in Chilean Patagonia, near Torres del Paine and will do some adventuring with my friend Will Copestake  willcopestakemedia.com/ who has been working out there as a Kayak guide. We also plan on cycling through the desert to reach the famous salt lakes of Bolivia.  After that I will be on my own and have no set plan, any suggestions?

It's all a bit scary and I'm massively under-prepared despite having quit my jobs in January to give me sufficient time to deal with everything.

So I won't be posting m/any new photographs any time soon, but I'll hopefully have plenty when I come back to add to my massive back-log of photographs on my hard drive.

Thanks everyone who has enjoyed and shared the good vibes in this place over the years, much appreciated.  If you want to get in contact with me, leave me a note here, email me at gilmore.andrew@gmail.com or find me on facebook www.facebook.com/andrew.gilmor…

United Kingdom
I'm a young cub from Northern Ireland, currently studying Environmental Science & Outdoor Education at the University of Stirling in Scotland.

I like to explore somewhere I haven't been to before, normally it's within a few miles of my house and there are so many new places to see in Scotland...the majestic mountains and wilderness. I always take my camera with me when I'm out exploring and it's when I take most of my photographs. So yeah I try to photograph anything that has an effect on me, even for the slightest moment. Also looking out for wildlife, especially deer and foxes :)

Okay then.
