Wonderful works by wonderful watchers and other folks.

The intentions of a windy day
Peering over a bride across the Colca Canyon in Peru, I noticed a hat floating down the river.  Some poor farm worker suffering from the intentions of a windy day.  The light hitting off the lapping water in the depths of canyon appeals to me in this picture, it almost doesn't look real until you see the hat sitting on top of the water.
Islas Flotantes de los uros, Lago Titicaca, Peru
When travelling between Bolivia and Peru along the shores of Lake Titicaca, I stopped in the city of Puno. Nearby are the Uros floating islands. I traveled by boat to the islands to check it all out.  The Uru people moved out to the middle of the lake on reed islands many centuries ago for defensive purposes.  These days the islands are much closer to the shore and the Uru people hunt, fish, sell reeds on the mainland and welcome tourists everyday.  A typical tour will stop by one of the islands where you see how they are constructed, how they live, a bit of singing and dancing, a ride in a traditional reed boat and you get the chance to purchase craft items, possibly made by the the Uros, but more likely bought in the markets on the mainland and flogged to tourists for higher prices.

I've heard that the number of islands (currently ~120) has risen significantly in recent decades because the tourist trade is quite lucrative.  Needless to say, it is still a fairly basic existence and the islands require a lot of maintenance to keep them floating.  The lower layers are constantly rotting, so new layers of reeds need to be added frequently.  Some families have solar panels to run small electric appliances and most islanders have boats with outboard motors; the reed boats are mostly for the tourists to ride on.
From Fisherfield to Torridon
Location:  The view from one of the Fisherfield Munros towards Slioch and Torridon in the far distance.  Wester Ross, Highlands, Scotland.
One of my favourite types of mountain shots.  Shades of blue as overlapping ridges and buttresses give way to the horizon.

Taken on a hiking and camping trip back in 2014 when I climbed a number of Munros in Torridon, Fisherfield and An Teallach.
Greetings deviants!

Not sure if any of my old dA friends are still on here, or who reads these things now but I'm just letting you know I will be away for quite a while.

I am travelling to Chile on Wednesday and will be spending the next few months tramping around South America and after that, who knows?  I will start off in Chilean Patagonia, near Torres del Paine and will do some adventuring with my friend Will Copestake who has been working out there as a Kayak guide. We also plan on cycling through the desert to reach the famous salt lakes of Bolivia.  After that I will be on my own and have no set plan, any suggestions?

It's all a bit scary and I'm massively under-prepared despite having quit my jobs in January to give me sufficient time to deal with everything.

So I won't be posting m/any new photographs any time soon, but I'll hopefully have plenty when I come back to add to my massive back-log of photographs on my hard drive.

Thanks everyone who has enjoyed and shared the good vibes in this place over the years, much appreciated.  If you want to get in contact with me, leave me a note here, email me at or find me on facebook…

United Kingdom
I'm a young cub from Northern Ireland, currently studying Environmental Science & Outdoor Education at the University of Stirling in Scotland.

I like to explore somewhere I haven't been to before, normally it's within a few miles of my house and there are so many new places to see in Scotland...the majestic mountains and wilderness. I always take my camera with me when I'm out exploring and it's when I take most of my photographs. So yeah I try to photograph anything that has an effect on me, even for the slightest moment. Also looking out for wildlife, especially deer and foxes :)

Okay then.
