Love the games!

This is quite the beautiful depiction of a classic scene! I love all the Ys games and the Ys anime series as well, and I have to agree that this is by far one of the best pieces of Ys fan art I've ever seen... and likely that anybody has ever seen. The goddesses look very lovely here, and the Black Pearl suitably sinister. The expression of shock on Adol's face is very well-suited to the part where he goes in to confront Darm. Something anybody would be shocked to confront, a demon like that! Everything about this painting is incredible... I totally had to add this to my favorites. :D

Cool. Wasn't Darm that guy who looked like Emperor Palpatine?

Actually, if memory serves that was the wizard Dalles. Darm was the demon that lived inside of the Black Pearl, and was the being that was causing all the chaos in the story. Darm was the final enemy Adol went to confront in both the anime and the video game version of Ys Books I and II. However, in the anime Darm was undone more due to the goddesses' influence (and their mercy and kindness) than anything Adol actively did. In the video game Ys Origin, they revealed an interesting plot twist whereby Darm was originally a human being named Cain Fact, who was the most power-hungry and ambitious of the Fact family (at least up until Dark Fact, the primary villain of Ys Book I, came to power). Cain becomes one with the Black Pearl in one of Ys Origin's endings, and it turns him into a demon, at which point he becomes Darm, the name by which he is known by the time of Ys Book II. Naturally, however, the anime was made way before Ys Origin, so Darm's origins were meant to be a mystery in that version of the story. Dalles was a demon too, he was just a less powerful demon, especially in the video games. But oh, Dalles really DID look like Emperor Palpatine! So much so, it was scary. I kept expecting him to say to Adol: "Good, good... let your hatred flow. Strike me down! Let your journey to the Dark Side of the Force be complete." Only difference though... Palpatine loved to spam Force Lightning, and Dalles loved to spam petrification spells like they were going out of style. In Ys Origin he makes with that spell again! And looks a lot less like Palpatine in that game and a tiny bit more like Alucard from the Castlevania games. Guess he got REALLY ugly as the years went on. Tee-hee-hee! :D

Yeah, my bad. I only saw Ys II's anime, and I confused the two villains for each other.

Now I'm wondering what would happen is Dalles and Palpatine were to meet.

OMG! That would be epic, wouldn't it? If Dalles and Palpatine met... they'd either ally to work greater evil than either of them could do separately, or they'd totally kill each other. Or perhaps they'd use each other up to a certain point, in order to achieve their goals, and then attempt to do away with each other in various evil villain plot kind of ways. *Giggle*

Picturing the Millennium Falcon landing in the floating land of Ys is a cool thought too, and I can even imagine how that could come about...

Han Solo and Chewbacca are fleeing from the Empire, they make the jump to light speed, something goes wrong and they end up coming out of the hyperspace jump on the alternate Earth where the Ys stories take place. The first place they just happen to come across whilst flying around the planet and exploring just coincidentally happens to be Ys itself. Han is all like: "Chewie... I think we're really, really off course here! Let's check it out and see if the natives are friendly." Palpatine could end up dragged into the mess after it turns out the Falcon had some kind of tracking device hidden on it by the Empire after the last time Han was stopped by the Empire to check his cargo or something, him being a notorious smuggler and an enemy of the Empire after all. The Empire traces the Falcon's location and sends an Imperial Star Destroyer after it. The Empire's ship orbits the planet, and the Emperor and Darth Vader are on board because they just totally want to check it out due to Palpatine sensing something to do with the Dark Side of the Force and how it is coming from Ys. A plot twist could be that the Black Pearl was modeled after an ancient Sith power source, the knowledge to build such a thing subconsciously beamed into the minds of those who created it to begin with. And Darm could turn out to be a physical manifestation of the Dark Side of the Force itself... sort of like (in a way) how Dark Force \ Dark Falz from the Phantasy Star video games was. Cain Fact could just be its' physical vessel, sort of like how the Governor of the planet Motavia was in the first Phantasy Star game. Naturally, Palpatine wants to harness the Pearl's power, so he sends Vader to work out a deal with Dalles and Darm. Han spots a whole mess of Imperial Stormtroppers in Ys, stumbles upon the plot, and madness ensues as Han realizes it is up to him to find a way to single-handedly put a stop to the Emperor's schemes. He teams up with Adol and the goddesses, and things go crazy from there. And I would totally get a kick out of an anime with that plot! Crazy.... but epically crazy. ;)

That would be cool, but add Luke and Leia and it would be even better.

Totally! I could see Luke and Leia coming to investigate what the heck happened to Han and Chewy. They'd probably be tailing the Imperial Star Destroyer that the Emperor and Vader are on, and being sneaky (piloting a small but fast pursuit craft capable of making the jump to light speed) wouldn't be noticed following them through hyperspace to the planet where Ys is. Han could get cocky, get captured, and Luke and Adol would have to rescue him. Leia could team up with the goddesses and show them how to use a blaster good and proper. I can picture an awesome battle scene with Leia and the goddesses firing blasters at Darm's demons and Vader's Stormtroopers. Han would be like: "Well kid, you sure took your time getting here!" and Luke would probably say something like: "Pick up a blaster and help us out here, or none of us will be making it home!" naturally, the droids came along for the ride so you'd have C3PO complaining about being doomed and the situation being hopeless whilst R2D2 is beeping and trying to generally keep C3PO's spirits up (and hacking the occasional Imperial terminal so the heroes can sneak on board the Star Destroyer, which I can totally see being the logical place where they'd be holding Han. Chewy would be clobbering demons left and right whilst trying to rescue Han himself, however unsuccessfully until Luke and Leia and the droids arrive. Dogi (Adol's super strong traveling companion) would definitely team up with Chewy to kick butt, and I can see Dogi breaking through a couple of walls on the Star Destroyer just like he broke through a wall in Dark Fact's tower in Ys Book I. The ultimate in coolness though would be if the goddesses helped Leia to bring out her latent Force abilities in return for Leia having taught them how to use blasters. Then, finally, we'd get to see Luke and Leia unleashing their force powers together against their foes. An interesting way the story could wrap up is the goddesses decide enough is enough so they send everyone back to their own galaxies and make them forget the whole adventure in Ys ever happened. Then, for a minute Han might almost remember, then go to tell Leia and then she'd be like: "What is it?" and he'd respond by saying: "Ah, nothing... I just got this feeling like I had the weirdest dream is all." and she'd be like: "Me too!" and they'd then decide: "Never mind, let's just go home." But Luke would smile this knowing smile, and we'd be left wondering if he actually DID remember it all in the end or not. Between the two of us, I think we just thought up one of the coolest Star Wars \ Anime fan fiction crossovers like ever! *Wink* ;)
