After many years I've started giving another try at digital painting. The extend of my works so far is this
. It's not terrible and gives me confidence, but I am very much at a complete loss how to progress from this.
There are heaps of tutorials on specific things around, but I don't understand most things they are talking about. To me, it's a bit like "How to draw an owl: 1. Draw two circles, 2. draw the rest of the owl."
I've been doing pencil sketches my whole life and think I am understanding what I am doing there. But I don't know anything about working with color. How you create textures to fill in between the lines of the first sketch is a complete mystery to me.
I know what red, green, and blue are, and I know the difference between a pen and a brush, but that's about where my knowledge ends. Just doing random things and hoping that at some point I realize what works and what doesn't does not seem like a very workable approach to me.
Can anyone recommed anything to get a grasp of the very basics of working with colors and textures?
