This is an illustration I did as a tryout assignment for Riot Games last year, of the League of Legends champion Lee Sin, to see if they wanted to commission more work from me. (Which means it's not the official splash illustration for Lee Sin, just in case you were wondering.) They did offer me more work, but unfortunately I had other commitments related to my studies at the time, which would have left me thoroughly overworked.
To be honest with you, I'm not very happy with how it looks. There are tons of things I would have done differently today, which means I've actually learned a bunch of new things the past year. Hurray!
It certainly isn't up to par with the awesome Riot artwork we see today, so I'm neither surprised or offended that they haven't made use of it.
They were nice and treated me fairly, so I definitely wouldn't mind doing work for them again in the future.
Despite its flaws, I hope you like it!

Well done! I also made a Lee Sin wallpaper. Check it out, if you want 
Honestly much more aesthetically pleasing than the current splash art for Lee Sin if we're regarding Riot's pattern involving Ionian champion art. Touch up the background and apply those tweaks you referred to, it would certainly turn out better than the current one.
Hey, man, would it be okay to use this for a splash/icon replacement for Lee? I work with custom skins, and I've been doing a lot of splash replacements! I hope you wouldn;t mind!
This is by far better than the splash art they use now. What a shame this wasn't used...
