The Beginning

Today I head into town
To use my power
Today is the beginning
Of a centuries-spanning story

The daughter of
A prostitute and a devil
Cast out of society
To fend for myself

A "witch", a cursed girl
An unholy abomination
Someone who doesn't
Deserve to exist

All alone in the woods
Sobbing into the ground
I'm soon told I have
The ability to gauge power

So I start brewing
Making tonics and potions
I heal the sick
And alleviate pain

A "witch", a blessed girl
A heavenly gift
Someone who is loved
By everyone around her

The sudden shift in views
Is naturally shocking
But I choose to remain
On the outskirts of the town

The local kingdom
Has a haughty prince
He doesn't care about
The people he oversees

His taxes get higher
The citizens start to starve
I do my best to help
Prevent all-out death

The lords send me on a mission
To destroy the monster
And so I sneak into his court
As a gorgeous prostitute

We sneak away
Into a darkened corridor
The kiss we share
Truly is deadly

My work is done
I leave the castle
The next day he's dead
Collapsed into his meal

My treason is discovered
A witch-hunt begins
All of my friends
Are burned at the stake

So I surrender myself
To the scorching flames
Faking my death
Is the only fate left

The end of the witch
Is really the beginning
As I head off as
A new person

A lowly peasant
Named after a flower
I start a new bloodline
That will change history

My Life In a Nutshell
My Life In a Nutshell I (That's just another word for me.) I tried to reason with myself today. I lost. Reason won. I didn't give you a fair chance to run before you fell in love with me. By the way, why did you fall in love with me? Or did you trip over the last heart you broke and land in my arms? I saw the truth today. It wasn't pretty. Ditto. Yesterday I had a dream. You lost me. I found me. The world use to look so dim. Oh wait, there's the light switch. Damn, the light just burned out! The future looks so bright. No wait, that's just car headlights. I think I died and went to... Ah crap! Not you again. Weren't you

Once upon a time, I lost my heart, stolen by a thief who distracted me in the dark with sweet lies and opened buttons. I drifted, insubstantial, until I found my heart again, abandoned beside a country road. I picked it up and put it in my pocket, took it home, washed it gently in warm water and No More Tears shampoo, and put it back where it belonged. It hurt at first, its pounding loud, working furiously to infuse pale limbs with rushing blood, alive, but the pain passed and I smiled in the afternoon sun. Then you came. And my poor heart, pilfered once more, is lost again. But this time, as
