I'm sorry, I'm a little slow on the times. I just heard that Mo'fat has done, as I predicted, yet again. I believe I told you, many years ago, that Mo'fat used the Dr. Who Red Nose Day "The Curse of Fatal Death" as a script idea for the real Dr Who show, and now he has brought in a woman to play the Doctor. I guess that means that the Doctor's companions will be all men now... Unless Mo'fat decides to continue using the Red Nose Day script for the real show, and make the Doctor a lesbian, but a switch hitter because then she hits on a revived male Master.

It's not that I feel threatened by women and fear them getting titular (no pun intended) roles, and you can call me funny, but I like male roles to be portrayed by male characters. Likewise for female roles. I wouldn't like watching Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, played by a dude. I wouldn't watch "Murder she wrote" with a dude as Angela Lansbury's role. Nor Miss Marple portrayed by a dude.

I don't recall your feelings on the matter but if I wasn't done with Mo'fat's scripts before, I'm done with Dr. Who now.

...So, YetI, How are ya doing lately? I hear the anglo isles are all flustertwitterpated and a-swoon over the Prince's marriage. ???

I don't know how much - if any - of what Moff's been doing in the show was inspired by Curse of the Fatal Death; I don't really follow "word of god" interviews that much tbh. xD I do think that Missy was clearly a trial run for introducing the idea of "switching gender during a regeneration" into the TV series, and I'd say it worked rather well (in fact in regards surprise twists in the show, I feel it worked better than the idea this year of having Missy trying to reform. xD)

Anyway, would Moff really have been that heavily involved in the casting of the 14th 16th next Doctor? The Xmas special was Moff's last (as well as being Pearl Mackie's and Capaldi's last, to boot), so surely the casting of Capaldi's replacement would be up to the new showrunner coming in, Chris Chibnall? (and some of the top brass at the BBC maybe)

And coming to the idea of Jodie Whittaker's Doctor hitting on a newly revived male Master...well, they could've done that route already, with Capaldi hitting on Missy. But they didn't, and I think that's a good thing - sure, they're old friends-turned-fr/enemies, but they don't have the "friends with benefits" vibe going on. I hope they continue to avoid going down that avenue in the future.

On the other hand, in the novelisations of the series, they never completely shied away from the concept of Time Lords switching genders during regeneration. I seem to recall probably about 2 or 3 instances where regeneration was brought up and discussed in the narrative of the TV novels, and references made to the fact that Time Lords didn't have to stick to one gender because their new body could be completely different. And I think there was a mention in one novel about a Time Lord regenerating into a form that was completely non-humanoid (because really, why would should it always be humanoid in appearance anyway, apart from because we can more easily identify with a humanoid hero?)

Add to that the fact that regenerating the Doctor into a woman has been discussed ever since the mid-70s I think, when they were first debating Tom Baker's eventual successor... (the whole back-and-forth on the subject has literally been going on since before I was born! xD), and I really don't see a problem with it. The Doctor will have 3 companions travelling with her next season apparently - 2 men and 1 woman, so it'll be a busy TARDIS for a while which is good, makes me think back to life onboard the TARDIS in season 19. :)

Like I said though earlier, I don't think this has much if anything to do with Moff's opinions on the matter anyway, as he's leaving - surely it'd be a mix of top Beeb execs and the new showrunner Chibnall? I'll just wait and see how it all plays out before giving my opinion. :)

How am I doing? Well my job at the accountancy is going along well (over 2 years in, finished my accounting technician studies, and got a nice payrise in April! ^^) and I'm gonna start my full-blown Chartered Accountancy studies in a couple of months probably.

I got a bit tired of all the news updates on the royal wedding over the radio, tbh, so I didn't watch the ceremony. Caught a brief glimpse on the evening news recap, seems lovely enough. And I wish the Duke and Duchess of Sussex a very long, and very happy marriage. :D (despite my feelings on the oversaturation of the event in the news media, I count myself a Royalist and possibly a Monarchist too)

sheesh! Talk about a wall of text! Let's just dive in...

"Word of dog" interviews? Huh??? Me neither to be honest, but I don't get the reference.

As far as "surprise twists" I think I've already pointed out, it's not very surprising. If you recall, I pretty much spelled out the whole "River Song/Melody Pond" arc, which was Mo'fat's doing.

I don't think a writer decides who gets cast in any role, as such, with exception to saying "okay, for the regeneration, let's say he's going to be a girl!" As such, if there is going to be a new role, who does casting get their ideas from? Well, if the writer is describes a bouncy, exuberant, full-of-life role, casting isn't going to start looking at the 70 and older crowd. In that regard, I down think the top brass at "beeb" tell the story writers how to write the stories. I think the story writers go to them and say "I got an idea for next season..." and then the brass either says yay or nay, and as such they DO have control over which direction the story goes in, but the tail doesn't wag the dog.

As far as the 70's and discussion of swapping genders... Huh? What? I WAS around at the time and don't rec-collect any mention in the show at any time where they mentioned a timelord could swap genders or jump species. Does that mean it never happened? No, but I was a fan of Tom Baker's era first and ate up everything I could, and think that idea would have been implanted in my memory if it was... The first I ever heard of it was during the revamped era of Who.
If you were saying that fans have been discussing it since the 70's, all I can say to that is... not on this side of the pond (and we ain't talking Amy)!

As far as jumping species, while it makes the most sense that humanoid transitions would be the rule of thumb for any televised series, because non-humanoid character roles would either be filled by voice-over actors in cartoon format, or computer generated format. In other words, you would end up cutting your watching audience in half. That said, of course written serializations can take a step further because the only real reality, in written format, is the limits of the writer's imagination. However, in either format, I don't think you can really call the race "timelords" with any credulity if their race is made up willy-nilly of anything under the sun. As such, how would the species propagate past one generation, if one time lord regenerates as a Tholian (star trek reference), and another regenerates as a pool of slime??? (the tholian would vaporize the slime, but I think you should get where I am going with that)

I had not heard that the reins were being handed over to another writer. How much influence does the leaving writer have over the ensuing seasons story arc? I'm not privy to such dealings, so I don't know. I imagine it isn't a "You're sacked, now get out!" and "You're hired, try not to drop the ball as you land on your feet running" transition. I rather imagine it's more of a transition where both work together to make the transition seem seamless. Seem seemless? Seam seemless? (Yes, yes, I know which is which (witch is witch?), but I like playing with words, especially during a crazy random happenstance).

So, with all male companions, would you continue your tradition of having flowers made up in male companions' image?

I have been reading your journals, even if I haven't been common-tatering, so I'm hip to your job update, although, has it been 2 years??? Pay raises are ALWAYS a good thing. I'm not hip to those studies and what it means, but I'm sure another accountant would be very flushed with enthusiasm over it.

I'm so out of touch, not only was I unaware of Harry even speculating about getting hitched (isn't he only 12 or 15 by now?), but I was also unaware of what was happening at Kilauea. Someone was asking me if America was as much in an uproar as Merry ol' England over Harry, and I was all manner of "...huh, what?" Not a good showing I suppose. As I recall, we were all manner of overjoyed about Diana and Charles, and I think most shed a tear when Diana left us too quickly, but nowadays (especially with the paparazzi pumping up any/all issues)?  Meh, business as usual.

I always new you were an "ist"!
