From Tuck's popular 'BIRDS ON THE WING' Series
Three birds of Europe, and their eggs
This card series has perforations around each bird so the wings can be bent forward, giving them a flying appearance.
European Goldfinch Goldfinch - " The Goldfinch is also called the Thistlefinch as it is often found where thistles grow. It is an exceedingly handsome bird with a loud sweet song. "
Common Chaffinch Chaffinch -  " The Chaffinch is one of our commonest birds, he is a pretty fellow, and builds a remarkably beautiful nest. "
Blue Tit Blue Tit - " The Blue Tit is a dainty little bird and is met with more frequently than any other of the Tit family. "

Wonderful little birds on an amazing postcard.
Goldfinch: putter or distelvink
Chaffinch: vink
Blue Tit: pimpelmees

There is a famous painting called "Het puttertje" (The Goldfinch), 1654, by Dutch artist Carel Fabritius (1622-1654) which I really love.
As a pupil of Rembrandt he was becoming a very promising artist in his own right. Sadly he
died young during an explosion which destroyed a big part of the city of Delft, along with his studio and many of his paintings. This little gem survived and I think it's just one the most delicate and beautiful little paintings of a single bird I've ever seen.
Sorry for the random information, but it came to mind looking at your lovely postcard. (^_^)

Thank you so much for this info, I was able to look it up easily and wow, you're right, what a beautiful bird that is, and apparently it was a pet(!)How tragic, that poor man! Such a shame but at least he left a body of work behind to memorialize himself and his little birdie to later generations.
I enjoy "fun facts" and found this:

I'm glad that you enjoyed this interesting tidbit.
Looking at the bird illustrations it just popped into my head and I wanted to share it with you.
Although it felt a little random I knew you probably would appreciate it. (^_^)

Goldfinches are REALLY, REALLY different in North America... ours deserve the name more IMO. They're almost entirely yellow. :P

I have a postcard of the North American Goldfinch to share, I just got it ready to upload a few days ago. They are so pretty looking, like yellow Canaries with black racing stripes.
