Description
This is the XWidget version of the Dieselpunk Volume widget .
-oOo-
I do NOT recommend using Xwidgets any more as they are unsupported and as a result, obsolete. I may be able to tempt you to use this version here instead: https://github.com/yereverluvinunclebert/Diesel-Volume-Control-VB6. It is exactly the same in operation but does not need an engine to operate. It is under development now.
-oOo-
It is a lovely piece of eye-candy as well as being useful on your desktop.
Installation:
Install xwidgets, unzip the download, double click on the packaged widget xwp and it should install and run. It should then place a volume control on the desktop, with a slider you can slide along to control the system volume.
This widget requires Xwidget engine to operate. Download the Xwidget engine from here:
Fixed menus
Recreated the preferences
Added tooltip options
Fixed various small bugs.
Background:
This Xwidget was easy to create as all I had to do was to recreate a new skin for the older steampunk volume control. I also use it on my desktop all the time so I had to fix the few remaining bugs...
In any case, it is not strictly a brand new widget, I used the same code as for the steampunk volume widget www.deviantart.com/yereverluvi… and then resized the images from an older design that I never actually created - www.deviantart.com/yereverluvi…
All brass removed, sound horn replaced with electric speakers, mounted on a cream bakelite plastic base. Added a handle for the slider and removed any Victorian embellishments. A simplification as it were, an upgrade to more up-to-date technologies and a reduction in the quality of the components.
This is one of a small set of icons/widgets for your desktop, the others are a typical set of early 20th Century desktop acoutrements. You can control the volume level of your PC desktop by moving the slider or clicking on the mute button. Double-clicking on the widget will cause a personalised Windows application to fire up. The first time you run it there will be no assigned function and so it will state as such - then it will pop up the preferences so that you can enter the command of your choice. The widget takes command line-style commands for windows.
Usage:
The widget functionality is self-explanatory, tinker with it and you will soon get to grips with it, you can't do any harm. Think of it as a bit of steampunk eye-candy with a useful function. The Dieselpunk Volume XWidget is a moveable widget that you can move anywhere around the desktop as you require.
Click on the slider and drag it to the left or right and the system volume will increase/decrease.
Click on the mute button and the system sound will mute.
If you change any of the system's sound settings using any other tools the widget will detect this and make changes to the slider accordingly.
It can be resized as you wish by CTRL + mouse scroll wheel up/down.
