Here is a steampunk desktop wallpaper which fits my laptop screen like a glove. It may well fit yours too. I modified an existing 3D generated image by Robert Czarny (credit below) adding the heat ray projection and some portholes on the tripods. I felt that the original, though highly competent and evocative, was static and too 'staged', lacking dynamism and action. The addition of the heat ray and a lighting flare suggesting a moving camera lens provides that dynamism. An example of Photoshop improving on a 3D image, I hope you'll agree, I also started to add some coloured elements to the martian tripods as they seemed too grey and as a result lacking some other-worldliness.
I am just experimenting with the heat ray using some of the basic lighting effects that come with Photoshop. There was no beam of light in Robert's original image. I am imagining the heat ray just being discharged and this image is the moment the heat ray touches the building just prior to the stone and wood exploding under all the stress of the heat.
It is an experiment with lighting that's all. Very difficult to light a 3D scene without the original 3D construct so I'm just playing with the image.
I've added a lot of light to the beam, some pulses of energy and lens flare effects for the extra dynamism. It obscures the original image somewhat but that is inevitable.
The important thing in the updated image is that the eye has a path to travel. It naturally moves from the heat ray's projecting box to the building and then back down the bridge to the martian's legs then up again. When looking at an image the eye always follows a beam of light and within Robert's original image the eye was drawn hither and thither without providing any actual focus. My new changes cause your eye to focus upon the things that are important, the conflict, the battle, the death, the forthcoming destruction.
The zipfile contains a variety of different size screens for desktop systems.
1600x1000 - original image size
It works perfectly with my widgets, giving the widgets and icons a place to 'be'. If you want me to make a specific wallpaper for your size screen then give the wallpaper a Facebook "like this", post me a comment and I'll see what I can do.</span>
This wallpaper is not too cluttered leaving you with plenty of usable workspace but you can have it as cluttered as you like.

Personally I use it as a log-in screen on my Windows 10 laptop. It works there very well indeed.
The only condition for downloading and using is that you leave feedback. Please leave a message and rate these things as it is the only payment I get for creating this small desktop addition
