S is for Snitch
When Hermione worked, the world around her disappeared.  And sometimes, she could be very cranky when interrupted.  So when a memo landed on her desk, her first thought was this better be good.
Are you busy?  I need your help.  It’s not work.—Harry
Wondering what Harry needed at work that wasn’t work, she sent back a quick note: I suppose I have a few minutes.  Come down here.—Hermione.
When he showed up, Hermione produced a little container of cookies and offered one.  Harry took one with a nervous smile and sat down.  “I feel like I’m back in McGonagall’s office.  Complete with the treats.”
She shrugged.  “I just really like my lemon-coconut-cocoa cookie bars, and no bakery I’ve ever found sells them.”
He smiled and took a bite, seemingly in no rush to say what he came for.
“Harry, I have work to do.  What?”
“How do I hide somethi

“Ron!  Please come in here and help me!” Hermione called out the door of the Burrow.
They were having a surprise birthday party for Fleur that evening.  Mrs. Weasley had gone to fetch Fleur and Bill, who was distracting her until the party was ready.  Audrey and Angelina were setting up decorations in the sitting room.  And for some reason, it seemed to take all five of the men to entertain three small children, one of whom couldn’t even walk.  Which Hermione found unreasonable.  So she was drafting Ron to help her clean the mountain of cooking dishes that needed to be washed.
But the first person through the door was Teddy, zooming through midair, laughing his head off and changing his nose every half second.  Ron followed, grinning, wand in the air.
“Ronald! Do not levitate the children!
“But it’s fun, Aunt Hermione!”
Hermione was already pulling out her wand and lowering him to the floo

Q is for Questions
Since Lily had been born a few months before, Harry was working from home as often as he could manage.  With three children under the age of five, it was just too hard for either he or Ginny to be alone with them all day.  Some days, it was unavoidable, but they managed.
Of course, some days the little terrors were quite distracting.
“Why can’t I fly?”
“You can.  On your broom.”
“No, on a real broom.  Like yours.  Or mum’s.”
“Because you’re not old enough.”
“Because you’re only four, James.
“Because that’s how many years old you are!”
“Because you are, James.”
“Because your mother bought new underwear, that’s why.  Now go play with Al.”
“Because I’m very busy, James!  I love you, but I need to work rig

Ronnie and I had agreed early on that none of our children would have the first names of any of the Animorphs as their own first names.  Middle names, perhaps, and first names could be a nod to something.  But naming our son “Jake” or our daughter “Rachel” was just asking too much.  Not to mention, it was morbid.  And uncreative.  Every other child born in the decade following the war would be “Jake” or “Rachel,” and probably “Toby” a lot also.  So, when I found out I was pregnant with a little boy, we set out to be creative.
After a lot of brainstorming, we finally settled on Alan Tobias Chambers.  We ended up throwing a dice to decide on Jake, Marco, or Tobias as his middle name (we couldn’t think of a way to make Ax’s name into something that wouldn’t get our son relentlessly teased).  Ronnie eventually came up with using the name that Elfangor had adopted on

Impossible Heartbeat
It was one of those perfect, wonderful moments that you would give anything, if only it didn't end.  Harry was snoring lightly, and I was lying on his chest, listening to his heartbeat and trying to ignore the sunlight creeping across the carpet, heralding the beginning of the day.
Thu-thump.  Thu-thump.  Thu-thump.
I knew his second scar was somewhere beneath my head.  The one that Voldemort had given him sixteen years after the first, when he walked into the Forbidden Forest of his own accord, and given his life so that everyone else could live.  Just as his mother had done.
Thu-thump.  Thu-thump.  Thu-thump.
But his heartbeat.  That's what truly amazed me.  He had such a big heart, so full of love and laughter, but so stubborn.  It had refused to stop, not once, but twice, after all.
And he's an Auror now.  Being an Auror isn't as

Zuko looked into the faces of his advisors, friendly and foul, and was reminded again about the reality of Fire Nation politics.  Most of this group of men hated him.  They hated that he had ended the war, and they hated all the changes he was making.  He could not trust them, but he needed their support.  Through their estates and assets, they indirectly controlled the Fire Nation, and could bring the economy down around his ears.  Not that it wasn't already in shambles…he sighed wearily.  He had just accepted the post of Fire Lord and he was already weary.
His gaze settled on his uncle, on his right, talking quietly with Jee.  They were the only two he knew for sure he could trust.  He prayed that more would prove to be truly on his side, but for now it was just those two.  Jee, who had watched him grow from a naïve child into a

M is for More
My mother loved Fred and Roxanne dearly.  She spoiled them, overfed them, and seemed believe their façade of innocence.  Molly does the same, but having raised seven children, including George, she knows they are far from innocent.
I love them more than… anything.  They are my beautiful, laughing children, pure and untouched by the war.  When I looked at the world, everything had scars from Voldemort's destruction.  Towns were missing buildings, families were missing children, people were missing a part of themselves that had been snuffed out.  My own husband was missing his twin.  My children were whole, missing nothing.  When I looked at them, I saw a part of this world that Voldemort had been unable to touch.
Fred and Roxy laughed and smiled when I sang silly songs, and the scariest thing in their world was the Bogeyman. They represented to me the good, safe word we had

I have a photo of a girl whose name I do not know.  There was a time when she was my best friend.  For one week, seven wonderful days, we were best friends.  The reason we're not anymore is not something tragic, like a horrible accident.  It's so commonplace, so entirely average that it's barely even worth a blip on my radar.
The photo in my hand was taken mid-laughter. We were probably laughing at some silly inside joke that seemed a lot more funny than it really was. Our sweaty, badly cut hair is escaping the ponytails that we so inexpertly secured it into.  Mine is brown, hers is bright red.  Freckles are splashed across her arms and cheekbones, lighting her smile up with something that only redheads have.  Our riding helmets dangle from our elbows, filled with treats for the horses.  My whole left side is covered in dust from the fall I had suffered earlier that morning.
I can't even recall

Not A Black
Andy had come to Grimmauld Place to babysit Sirius and Regulus for the day.  Sirius was extremely irritated by this, as he was a big boy of seven and needed no babysitter, even if it was his favorite cousin.  Determined to sulk, he darted towards his room as soon as the Floo swept his parents out of sight.
"Oh, no you don't."  Andromeda had caught hold of his collar.  "We're getting out of this gloomy place.  Both you boys go put on trousers.  We're going to the park to play in the sun."
Before they left, Andy explained that they would be playing a game of pretend.
"Mummy doesn't like pretend," Regulus protested.
"Your mummy is wound so tight that I'm amazed she can walk in a straight line."
Sirius grinned, delighted.  He wasn't entirely sure what Andy meant, but it sounded rude.  His mum approved of rudeness about as much as she approved of pretend.
"Now, we're go

Shiny Things
It was so strange, having the magi in our home.  I had grown used to strange things, or at least as much as I could have.  The same strange thing rarely happens twice, so it's rather hard to grow accustomed to.
But here they were, bowing before my little son, and presenting him with gifts meant for a king.
Jesus was just beginning to walk, and he did it with a confidence far beyond his skill.  So, when he stood up to go investigate these curious men, he promptly overbalanced and fell to his bottom.  Undeterred, he pushed himself up and tried again.  When he got close enough, he sat down right next to the gold box and began inspecting it, entranced.  The magi chuckled, and we all watched, amused, as he played with the shiny box.
I knew that my son was the Messiah, his coming foretold for thousands of years, and that he was going to redeem the world.  I knew that through him, incredible things would happen.

Little Bother
His fur was royal-blue, and his tail blade was just growing in.  It was no more than a shiny silver tip at the end of his tail, and it was bothering him.  Father was occupied with his latest project and Mother had her classes to teach, so I was left to watch the youngster and try to keep him from scratching his tail on the trees.  A full warrior, sure to be a prince in a few years, and I was babysitting my little brother.
I muttered.  Ironic how close "bother" was to "brother."
He tried to reach his tail again, but it wasn't quite long enough.  He glared at it, the expression on his small face so fierce it made me laugh.  Not noticing, my little brother climbed to his thin legs and wobbled a little, but only for a moment.  He was very sure-footed for his age.  Mother said that it took me far too long to trust my own legs.
He looked around, and made his way straight for the nearest derrishoul<

C is for Crucio
Hermione twisted and thrashed, trying to escape the pain.  It was nowhere, but it was everywhere.
The shrill words cut through the pain, finding her ears and driving the white-hot knives deeper.
"Mudblood!  Dirty, nasty, Mudblood!  Tell me the truth!  How did you get into my vault?"
Hermione tried to scream, but no sound came out.  Frustrated, terrified, in pain, she threw her limbs about wildly, trying to throw off the curse, tears streaming down her face.
"Hermione!  Hermione!  Wake up!  It's just a dream!  Hermione, you're safe!"
The pain was receding.  Hermione sucked in deep breaths of cool, sweet air and opened her eyes.
She was not on the cold tile floor of the Malfoy Manor, with Bellatrix Lestrange's  terrible face twisted in fury, shrieking one of the most terrible curses possible.  Ron's bl

October 31st, 1981
Lily had fallen asleep with the tattered book in her lap.  She had read Pride and Prejudice countless times, but never seemed to enjoy it any less.  James could not comprehend why she loved it so much; it was tedious and long, full of too much talking and not enough fighting.
"Lily," he murmured into her hair.  "Lily."  She stirred, opening her eyes halfway, and smiled sleepily at him.  "We should go upstairs to sleep.  We'll both have backaches tomorrow if we stay here."  She nodded and sat up, stretching.
A soft cracking sound reached their ears.  Husband and wife stopped dead, suddenly no longer tired.
"James, the spells…"
The horrifying, high-pitched cackle reached their ears.  The one that invaded their nightmares every night.

Writing is my air, Tigger is my boyfriend, chocolate is my drug, coffee is my alcohol, shopping is my high.

Yes, I am insane, thank you for asking.
I am a Jesus Freak.
I would do anything for my friends.
I love dogs.
I named my car Elijah.
I am not a morning person.
I'm completely obsessed with weddings and have pretty much entirely planned my own and my best friend's.
I love to paint my nails with complex and detailed designs.
I am a procrastinator.
I am somewhat of an airhead.
I tend to talk without thinking.
Unless it's raining, I never drive with the windows up. Even when it's cold. My friends hate it.
I have a weird affinity for the cold.
I prefer bittersweet (or just plain bitter) endings. I am not emo, just very realistic.

I collect quotes. Here are just a few of my favorites.

"Writing is the only thing I can do without feeling like I'm supposed to be doing something else."

"Don't use words too big for the subject. Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite." --C.S. Lewis

A man can no more diminish God's glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word, 'darkness' on the walls of his cell." --C.S. Lewis

You can't get a cup of coffee big enough or a book long enough to suit me." --C.S. Lewis (except the original quote says tea lol)

"'It's just...God, I've let you down so many times.'
'No. You were never holding me up. I hold you up with my victorious righteous right hand, and don't you forget that. In this relationship, I hold you up.'"--The Skit Guys

"Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by it's ability to climb a tree, it will spend its whole life believing it is stupid."

"Preach the Gospel always. If necessary, use words."

"Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers." Garth Brooks, "Unanswered Prayers"

"If that's the way you choose to see the world, than so be it. But don't you dare try to take this away from me. I've been coming in here every day for 24 years, watching children die and seeing good people suffer. And if I couldn't believe that there was a bigger plan behind all of this, well I just wouldn't be able to show up tomorrow." Laverne, Season 6 of Scrubs

"I did not climb to the top of the food chain to eat carrots." --Ron White

"Look, in my opinion, the best thing you can do is find a person who loves you for exactly what you are. Good mood, bad mood, ugly, pretty, handsome, what have you, the right person is still going to think the sun shines out your ass. That's the kind of person that's worth sticking with." --the dad in Juno

"When you come to a fork in the road, take it!"

"Give me coffee or the protagonist dies."

Happy 2012!!

Yeah, I know I'm a bit late, but I didn't have ANY time during the holidays, so I didn't post anything about MERRY CHRISTMAS or HAPPY NEW YEAR.  Best gift?  Best food item?  Best drunken episode (if you partied)?  Share!

I got some great stuff from my parents, including a new Canon Powershot camera and an absolutely GORGEOUS leather bound study bible with my name on the cover.  I'm putting off the process of highlighting and flagging my favorite verses because I don't want to ruin the perfection.  My family is not so much into sit-down dinners as we are into appetizers and desserts and wandering around with wine in one hand and munchies in the other.  The advantage of this is that you feel less guilty about eating a lot, because you only ever have one or two in front of you.  The disadvantage.....well, I think that goes without saying.  I was stuffed.  And my cousin kept refilling my wine glass, to the point of complete ridiculousness!!  I must've had five or six glasses by the time we finally left (no, I was NOT driving).

Ironically, that was Christmas with my family.  New Years was with my friends, at a parent's house, and they do not condone underage drinking.  So my New Years was totally sober.  Unfortunately.  Eh, I'll just have to make up for it next year.

Today, I drove back to college, because I have work tomorrow.  Classes don't begin for two weeks, but work does :/ Ah well, I need the moo-lah, and I don't have anything else to do.  But the stupid housing department doesn't let us move back in early, so I'm crashing on a friend's couch.  I was so excited to see her, but I opened the door to a very cold, very dark apartment.  Sad!!  I thought she was coming back today, but apparently it's tomorrow.

Anyway, so I have about a two-hour drive, which allows me plenty of time to think.  And think.  And think.  And depress myself.  And brainstorm new plot bunnies.  And cheer myself up.  And I realized that, by the time they were my age, EVERY one of the women in my family had met the man that they would eventually marry (and they are all still married), in fact many were engaged by my age (which is 20).  Well, needless to say this is mildly depressing, as I sit here in my glorious single-ness (sarcasm).

And yeah, I know I'm starting to sound like a thirteen-year-old (will ANYONE love meeeeee???????), but seriously it's a little discouraging.  Besides, MY journal, MY thoughts.  We all have the right to be a little whiney occasionally.

Ggrrrrrr.  Frustrating.  Especially because I am OBSESSED with weddings.  To the point of being unhealthy.  I seriously considered being a wedding planner instead of a nurse.

Anyway, that's my day.  I wish I could bake something to cheer me up, but all my supplies are locked in my dorm room..... *contemplates breaking in to my own dorm* Nah, I'll just watch Law & Order: SVU.  Their problems are way bigger than mine.

Oh, and for those of you that are waiting for the next installment of ABC's:  it's coming.  Slowly.  And it's D for Dursley.  And I am welcome to ideas, outside of E, F, H, M and W.  Those I have.

Ta-ta for now!
