Well, since a few people have asked me about this, I thought I would give it a go :) It's an oekaki realism tutorial! I really hope this comes in useful - if you want to ask me anything more about my methods, please go ahead!

In this tutorial I have drawn Monica from Friends. If you have any comments on the final piece, I'd be happy to hear them too :XD: I had to put it in "Miscellaneous" since oekaki doesn't seem to appear in any other Digital Art Tutorials category!

Thanks to friendscafe.org for the reference picture, and ~photoshoprangerstock for the coffee ring brushes!

This is simply gorgeous. Your realism skills in general are wonderful, but for oekaki shock me. I have such a hard time with oekakis, even though they are so fun. Hahahaha!

Thanks so much for sharing!

Thanks this is really interesting, it seems everyone draws differently -- this is the third tutorial I've seen and they all did things completely differently, and all different from my own method!

I'm very impressed that you completely draw individual elements rather than draw it all and then add more and detail. I watched the entire animation in awe ...does it include when you use undo? I swear I spend more time using undo than I do drawing ;)

Thanks again, keep up the great work!

I don't think it does include when you use undo :) But I may be wrong :XD: I have a weird method by drawing things separately like that before continuing with it, but it works for me! What is your method? :)

I draw I sketch, then I flat colour under the sketch, then I shade in all the darker areas with a slightly darker colour, then do that over and over until it looks suitably 3D, then I start adding lighter colours and 'washes' of other colours in the picture, then I remove the sketch and fix the details, then I'll probably add a background last. I generally use just the airbrush tool for colouring and nothing else.

This is a pretty good example of my method: [link]

Although I wasn't actually planning to remove the lines in that case, I sort of finished it then noticed I could do better and spent another 2 or 3 hours on it.

Ah right, you do a more conventional method (mine is weird, but it works for me!) :XD:

It's just what was most intuitive for me, I wasn't taught it. It seems you're a bit more unique than I am though :)
