Prosaix's guide to the 'Popular Attitude' on dA
:bulletgreen:Pageviews - Have lots of them
Yes, pageviews are probably the main thing to have if you want to be popular. You can get them by drawing lots of anime, furry art, big boobs or all three of those together. The easiest way, however, is to buy them. There are lots of people selling them on dA, either for :points: or via paypal. Either way, get your pageview counter up!
:bulletgreen:Do not favourite lots of deviations
That's right, only a selected few, from other fellow popular artists. You don't want to be taken for a wannabe do you? Popular people don't go on faving sprees.  4000 is ok-ish, but 10 000 is unacceptable.
:bulletgreen:Do not reply to all comments you get
Yes, popular people get so many comments and notes and it becomes impossible to reply to all of them. You can also reply after a couple of weeks and say you were swamped by other comments and things like that. Use your imagination, your crown is the limit. Having a deviation where y

Groups: Killing deviantART? (Detailed Article)
Groups: Killing deviantART?
Quite the headline? Maybe and maybe not as sensational as I've made it out to be but let's take a look at group and how they are killing and helping deviantART. What kinds of changes they've made now that groups have been around awhile and we are accustomed to them. They are part of a lot of our deviantART lives now, no?
This article will feature the following topics about groups: Quick history about groups, How groups are killing dA, how groups are helping dA, Solutions to the Problem, and various gripes about groups in general. Each section will give groups what credit they are due, so don't take this as some long personal rant about groups. I love a lot of things about groups and hate a lot of things about groups at the same time. I apologize in advance if this article is very long, it's worth the read however, and may begin to give other members here on dA some insight to what is happening in the community.

Duck and Cover! THE WORLD IS ENDING!!!
If you are not aware, THE WORLD IS ENDING ON MAY 21!!!
Really?
How many, many other times has this been predicted?
What I wonder the most is- Why does it matter? Why do people continue to 'calculate' this?
I would imagine it is an effort to get people to clean up their acts and 'turn to God'. Yes? It takes the END OF WORLD to change people in such a way? That is really very sad but nonetheless true.
I see no point in these 'calculations' and predictions other than to be a scare tactic and to garner attention.
C'mon, what are we really going to do? Duct down under our tables, go into the basement, get on a spaceship and take over the Death Star, or gather up all we can to create Earth2.0?
Knowing about the time when you personally are to die is terrible. Yet we, as a species, continue ever on to try to find out about our end.
I'd like to look at the other end of this spectrum- THE BEGINNING!
Was there a BIG BANG

Regarding personal style.
To anyone who is obsessively busy trying to find a style unique to them; don't. It seems to have become some sort of trend nowadays on dA, trying to "find a style", when really it is something quite ridiculous to be doing.
If you compare it to handwriting, it's like worrying about how to make every single letter of the alphabet both beautiful and unique to you when your spelling and grammar leave a lot to be desired, while they are really the most important things to learn first. Sure having a pretty style to look at is nice, just like having a beautiful handwriting. But if all of your other artistic knowledge is falling behind, much like your spelling and grammar, the result will still be unattractive and your art will not reach the viewer in the way that you intended.
So in short, focus on getting better, on gathering knowledge, experience, and practicing, not on finding your own style. Style will happen automatically. Not to mention the fact that if you're a good and experienced eno

On Popularity On DeviantArt
Popularity.
Whether it be measured by Pageviews, Deviation Views, Favorites, Watchers, Comments, or Llamas, popularity is a strong motivator for many DeviantArt users. The problem with popularity however, is how it detracts from the original purpose of DeviantArt: sharing artwork that you love and actually building up your art skills.
With popularity many DeviantArtists are given a false sense of fulfillment, or even a false sense of disappointment.
A great artist can feel insecure when he looks at another person's gallery and realize that although his work looks better, this person who's younger, older, a premium member, a regular member, a fanartist, a photographer, a new member, or a seasoned member, they still have more pageviews, or point donations, or favorites, or watchers.
The idea of popularity on DeviantArt helps to spoil the fun and the pleasure that art is supposed to give the artist. It spoils what art was once about.

PAGEVIEWS- Gotta buy'em all?
After people getting hissy pissy at me for advertising them in my sig, and so many news articles crying out 'Scam scam' or 'stop the bots', I thought writing this might help some clarify some things.
The staff members do not care about this issue, take a look here: http://realitysquared.deviantart.com/journal/39357876/#comments But they aren't so vile and mean after all, because they gave us a weapon of unimaginable llamanuclear power to combat this unnecessary evil...
The ability to choose not to display pageviews.
:faq4:
-Refer to the Browsing section.
And on top of that, you get a cute irresistible fella badge to display on your profile page. Like llama badges, it can mean much more than you forming part of the army who fought the battle of pageviews.
What do pageviews mean?
Pageviews indicate the number of different people who visited your profile in a day. So if you have a 100 watchers, and each of them visit your profile daily for a week, you'll end up with 7

So you want to do commissions?
A basic guide to setting up commissions
When it comes to commissioning, there is so much that needs to be decided, arranged and thought of that it can all appear a bit daunting at first.
However: when following a couple of basic guidelines, setting up commissions really is not as hard as you think!
If you find the article informative, please :+fav: it.
----------------------------------------
First things first
So you have decided you want to start doing commissions. That's great!
The first thing to do is to determine what you want to offer.
Do you want to offer drawings, or designs?
Will you be coding journal-skins for people, or will you be pixeling?
Take a look through your gallery and try to determine what you do best and what you like to do the most.
Because that will most likely be what you'll be offering.
TIP:
Stick to what you're good at.
Don't promise what you can't deliver when someone is paying you for it.

Now that y

For the Love of Rescues
I have recently rescued a very sweet 6 month old puppy who was starved of not only food, but human affection. Having her has taught me a lot in the few days she has been in my life.
Always give a second chance. No matter what the situation is, all beings, human or animal, deserve a second chance at life.

Can you imagine being beaten or starved and then being told its too much work to let you live?

Rescue dogs love their owners just as much, if not more, than purchased puppies.  Even if they dont show it in the same way as other dogs, they have hearts just as big.

They just need some time and work! they need to be shown that not all people are bad... that we understand that not all dogs get easy lives and maybe theirs didnt start off great!

They still deserve to live. They still deserve a loving home with people who treat them like the living, breathing and feeling beings they are!
People say

One Cat, One Fruit, One Clock Semi-Finalists
Who knew so many creative and unique pieces of artwork could be created using a cat, a fruit, and a clock? Well, we did! Which is exactly why we asked you and harnessed the power of the deviantART community! Some artists mashed up the photos into a stunning photo manipulations, some created paintings and illustrations using the photos as references, and some even created posters for fake movies and products!
In some entries it was obvious which stock photos were used, but it in others, it was almost like a scavenger hunt. You may have to download the full size images to spot them all!
The judges have looked through the entries and selected 25 semi-finalists. From these semi-finalists, three winners will be chosen by the world-wide Chairman of Fotolia, Inc., Oleg Tscheltzoff.
Please note: If during the finalist judging any one of the semi-finalists becomes ineligible or is disqualified under the Official Rules, the semi-finalist judges will replace the disqualified entry with a new

A heated argument broke out in my house this afternoon.
I live in a rental situation, renting a large room (with my own bathroom and workspace, real nice setup) in a Filipino household.  Love my landlord, get along great with the other housemates, but to emphasize the 'Filipino' aspect of the living situation, there's a lot of family taking residence here.  And with family, with teenage offspring, with high standards and expectations from the older immigrant generation speaking upon the younger American-born kin, tension is inevitable.
The daughter of one of the housemates is loo

The Artist's Block: Room For Improvement
:star::bulletblue:Have you ever looked through your gallery here on dA, and thought "This picture looks so awkward!" or even "I hate this, it's stupid and embarrassing!"
Well, you're not alone. Almost every artist (myself included) has, does, and possibly WILL dislike some/most of their own works. But, as with everything, there's always room for improvement.
-How to improve: Basic Steps-
1. Positivity
Try to find a couple things you DO like about the picture in question. Maybe the shape of Sonic's hand turned out really well! Maybe the shading on Haruhi Suzumiya's hair turned out really cute! If you can find a silver lining among the gray clouds, you can reach for the sky. :la:
2. Comparing and Noticing Slight Improvements
Compare some of the oldest stuff in your gallery to your most recent pictures. Any improvements you can take notice of? Did Mario's hat look more round in your latest, greatest picture of him? Did the tree in your newest nature piece look
