Usagi and Yami: Holiday Shopping Rant

Hello everyone!

It's been a long time!  Much too long I know!   I find that I'm STILL extremely behind on DA these days and though I make a little head way in terms of catching up, I've still got a long way to go!  I do apologize though...  I never EVER want any of you to think that I don't care anymore, or that I've forgotten anyone here either!  You guys are awesome, and coming to this site still brings a smile to my face, each and every time!  Please, remember that!

As for what I have here, well this is a piece that I HOPED to finish before the end of 2017, but alas, it wasn't meant to be.  Even worse, it's taken me a few months into 2018 to complete it but I suppose it's better late than never....

And at minimum, I DID complete this before year's end, so that's something right?

One of the reasons I had wanted to do so, is because it was my bi-yearly tradition to depict a work with Usagi and Yami together, representing my love for both Sailor Moon and Yu-Gi-Oh, two titles that I've adored for so many years now. I've tried my best to keep up with this tradition as seen with some of my past works below:



Many people have asked me if I ship these two as a potential couple.  In truth, I would have to say no.  These works originally began for fun, and only later became a tradition of sorts.  And of course, for those who know me best, I've long since adored the coupling of Yami/Atem with Tea/Teana as seen in my long running written work,  "Transcending Memories: A Bond Unsealed:"

I also DO like Usagi with Mamoru, though I often think back to how badly he treated her in the 1990s version of the anime, though I know a lot of that did not occur in the original manga or the newer version of the anime.  Even so, I do like to poke fun of that aspect, as I did in the piece above, and one of the ones I completed a little over two years ago especially. Aside from that, I do often think that if Yami and Usagi did live in the same universe, that the two of them would have been very good friends.  They had a lot in common after all, being two royals from the past, with ancient relics and magical powers! And I imagine that if Usagi did have a little disagreement with her love Mamoru/Darien, that maybe she would confide in Yami about her troubles as seen here, while the pair drinks coffee.  And being such a good friend and listener, I'm sure Yami would be shocked by her tale! 

And yet, I must emphasize that I still would like to see them with their true loves, hence the reason I had Usagi and Yami shopping for their partners, as seen by the gifts surrounding them.  Usagi most likely would have purchased some books for Mamoru/Darien as he would often be seen reading in the anime and manga.  While the thoughtful Yami purchased a few things for Tea, namely a lovely lily, within an Egyptian vase. Truth be told, this particular aspect is more related to my own writings than anything in the anime or manga, (especially the design of the vase) but I suppose I couldn't help adding that particular touch!   For any eagle eyed viewers, you may notice that I used the dub names of "Darien" and "Tea."  I usually prefer the Japanese names, but since I'm referencing my "Teana" in this piece, I thought I might as well use "Tea," and as a result, "Darien" for the sake of consistency. 

As for the clothing that Usagi and Yami are wearing, I had a bit of fun looking at winter wear and designing a few things that they'd be dressed in, unlike what they've worn in either the anime or manga.  And yet, I still wanted them to be wearing something that they COULD have worn at least.  Usagi seems to have a fondness for pink, so I have her in this pink sweater dress, while I know Yami likes darker colors, so I have him in this coat that I rather liked.  I still see him as looking kind of regal, (when he wants to be, anyway) so I wanted him to look rather sophisticated in it.   As always, this piece was done by hand, using opaque water color!

Again, I do wish that I would have finished this painting in time for Christmas, but I thought it was too fun of an idea to rush, and I wanted to give it the time and care it deserved.  I hope that you like it!  Thank you very very much for looking and I hope that 2018 is treating you all well so far.  Here's hoping that at long last, this year will bring a little happiness to us all!  Thank you again!
