I went ahead and went to Sakuracon this year. I am hoping to spark my interest in drawing again.

:iconramzkun: and :iconfatart: are here this year and we are hanging out, but if anyone else is around it might be fun to hang out Saturday.

Here's hoping that I get my drawing groove on again.

Its been like a year now and I am working on a comeback (again).

Life got busy and a lot of things happened.

1) I lost most of my principal images for the FMP comic I was working on. Don't worry... I plan a redo in the coming months.

2) I got busy with work and life... and got sucked into a few online games. I am currently pruning out things that I don't think are necessary though and plan to redouble my efforts to produce art.

3) I have started sketching again... but this time on pixiv. I will try to clean up some of those in the near future for posting to DA (I hope).

I hope all you folks are doing well.

Cheers,

~xyxtlin

Hi everyone, I'm back in the US now and busy with a new job. I expect things to quiet down soon, but at the moment I don't have a lot of drawing time.

I did finally get out my scanner and PC and have rescanned the poorly captured scraps I posted several weeks back. Hopefully I can have something better soon but I can't make a lot of promises right away.

I'm not currently taking requests. That doesn't mean I won't ever take requests, or that I won't do exchanges, but I'm busy and I don't have as much time as I used to these days.

I know I don't draw as much as I used to, and I know that its hard to get people to draw request art for you folks these days, but there are some lines we need to establish of acceptable behavior. Its not like I don't recall what it feels like when you can't get your favorite character drawn. That feeling is exactly why I started drawing!

That being said, if you want something drawn, you need to have a few manners folks. Specifically if you want me to draw something, ask ME directly, don't try to use underhanded methods to get what you want.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about:

----
A friend and I have been exchanging pictures lately in a format that causes us both to draw the same character. We have done int in the form of challenge - response, but really we both discuss what characters we're going to do before hand.

Someone who appears to have thought that this friend had some "magic power to make me draw what he wanted". H though it would be a good idea to ask him to draw a character in order to get me to draw the character in the way he wanted.

There are two problems with this:
1) You are trying to request art from me without asking me. Its indirect and is somewhat disrespectful. That in itself doesn't anger me, but its not likely for me to accept that kind of request.

2) You're essentially telling my friend that you don't want his art, you only want to use his relationship to get to me. That is to say, you don't care about his art, but you want to use him as a tool to make me draw for you when I haven't done so lately. This is extremely rude and angers me a lot. If you want art out of someone, you don't do it by treating their friends like crap.

If you have done this and I know of it, you can consider yourself out of consideration for requests for the foreseeable future.

---

That being said, I do plan to have open requests sometime this year, but I will be announcing it here on my DA journal when I do so. I can't make any promises to when or how many, but I will do what I can.

My own personal projects and exchanges with friends still take priority, as well as art exchanges (which are more fun because I get something out of it too).

I know there are a lot of you out there that want to see this kind of art and don't exactly have money to ask for commissions. Well, I don't do commissions. The money would be way less than what my day job pays, and I do this more for fun anyway.

If you want to see your character sooner, you could always try taking up drawing yourself. Its not really all that hard, it just takes a lot of practice. You never know what you can do if you don't apply yourself.

I hope this clears things up a bit. Sorry for such a gloomy journal post.

Cheers,

I am uploading a bunch of stuff that I was working on previously but have abandoned. Many of these projects got stopped when I started my last job, but the motivation behind them is gone.

In the past when I have done this I have simply thrown out the art and started again, but after some goading by a few friends, I decided to upload it.

Its all in scraps, if you want to see it, feel free to take a look.

What I am going to finish:
- The FMP comic (at the very least, page 2)
- a fanart sketch I promised someone (but haven't mentioned before here)
- A redraw of the very first furry pic I ever did (bonus points to anyone who knows this, if it was ever posted, it was only in one place.. those who I already told are disqualified from answering ;) )

I'll do my best to get things rolling around here again. Hang in there folks.

cheers,

The main thing that I'm concerned about with leaving Japan is losing what Japanese skills I've been able to assemble in the last three years. In order to address this I've decided to start adding more Japanese language content to the web when I can.

This doesn't mean I'm going to have my DA page in Japanese though (who would bother to read it?). Instead I've added a blog to my pixiv account, and I've put up a Japanese only twitter account. Insofar as I can I plan to update all of my information streams (pixiv, DA, twitter) more frequently now.

I'm also going to try to go ahead and finish that comic page this weekend. It needs to be done (page 2). I also need to work on page three, but I suspect that will take some time to get to.

To anyone interested, here's some links to the new stuff:

pixiv.cc/xyxtlin/ (pixiv blog)
xyxtlin_jp (japanese twitter -- I will only respond in Japanese here folks!)

Also, I was wondering if anyone around here (those who are reading this because they like things chubby and Japanese) would any of you folks be interested if I were to post updates on when/where that chubby maid cafe in Akihabara is open? Its pretty hard for foreigners to find it alone... and if any other folks who like this kind of stuff, I'd be happy to give them a hand finding it.

Cheers,

Hi folks, sorry for the long time with no reply, but up until fairly recently I was working 12-14 hour days and had no time off. Now I'm finally getting ready to move back to the US. I have a new job waiting and I'm looking forward to more sane working hours and wages.

I will miss Japan for certain but I may also go back at some point; I haven't fully decided yet.

I have to apologize for the full metal panic comic fiasco. I have page two nearly done (and it has been at that stage for months) but with the intensity of my work environment, I was having enough trouble making time to wash my laundry and making time for meals let alone finding time to work on art.

I suspect I will have some more spare time in the upcoming months (after the move is complete) and you have my word that I will continue work on the comic. At the very least I will try to get page 2 done in the next few weeks. Page 3 is yet to be written (and I may choose to do it differently than I originally planned) but I will make good on that as well.

I hope you folks are all doing well.

Cheers,

Hi guys, I haven't had a lot to talk about lately, but since I'm having to learn about twitter for some things I'm working on I thought I'd set one up for my "xyxtlin" account.

I think I'll use it to post links and/or titles of interesting anime/manga I encounter (pertinent interest).

Feel free to sign up and check it out if you want.

No promises on very frequent updates though, lol.

Hi guys, if you're wondering why I haven't been around posting art, and why my art stopped so suddenly, its because I suddenly became employed.

Well I suppose that's the good news, but I also have a lot of work to do to make my skills acceptable (programming skills, sorry! ^^; ) to get a full time position.

That means little to no art for at least a month or so. I'll see if I can squeeze one or two pics in anyway, but no promises.

Hope you guys are all doing well.

Well I thought it might be a good idea to update my journal since things have chanced since my last post.

I still am looking for work, but I have now made time to do a little drawing.

If you're having trouble finding my recent stuff, check the scrapbook (I haven't made anything worth calling a deviation yet).

I'm still quite rusty, but I'll work to improve things asap.

Ok now for a few FAQ's

Q: Are you doing requests?
A: No, not currently. When I do I will announce it on my Journal.

Q: Are you doing exchanges?
A: Depends on the exchange and how much time I have.

Q: When will you CG (insert image name here)
A: I will cg the images I have said I would when I get done with the current sketch set.

Q: Will you do commissions?
A: Currently this is also no. I don't have the framework setup to do this, and I view it as too much trouble to bother with at the moment. Plus its more fun at the moment to not be paid for art. (Less pressure at least!)

Well if you folks have any other questions for me, post them to this journal and I will try to answer them.

Cheers,

Despite unfounded rumors of my demise, I am yet still breathing.

In order to let you know what's going on I'll have to go into more personal detail than I'm used to. If you don't care about that and just want to know about art, skip the stuff between the dashes.

-----
What have I been up to? Well I'm still in Japan (at least for now). For the last year I was working pretty seriously at a job, and trying my best to learn Japanese. I'll be honest though and admit I wasn't too good at my job. It was web stuff, which isn't my best, and my heart wasn't in it. Ten months later, got laid off, and my Japanese is still too poor to easily land a job.

So what now? Well I plan to still stay in Japan if I can, so I'm feverishly looking for a new job. I have a girl who I want to stay with and I don't want to give up on Japan just yet.

I am determined to find a job I actually like next time, so I have begun to train myself on how to program in Android, Google's cellphone platform. Its one of the few things I still find interesting in computer programming, to the point where I actually am driven to work on it in my spare time. I don't know if this is going anywhere yet, but I want to see where this leads me.
----

So what about art? I'm not working on any right now, and I won't be until I have some android apps under my belt. I'm not abandoning art though.

I'm still drawing in my spare time, and I imagine I will need to draw a thing or two for these android apps. My sketch skills have gotten a little rusty, but are still fairly sturdy. My digital skills have gone to pot though and I may need to start all over with that when the time comes.

So what does this all mean? Please be patient. I promise I will have new things, even this year. Don't bother checking every day though, I doubt I will have anything for a little while yet.

Cheers,

Where am I? Where have I been? Why haven't I posted anything until just now? Why is the resolution so crappy?

All the answers in good time... ok now is good enough.

If you hadn't heard I've taken some time out and gone to Japan. I'm pretty serious about learning Japanese, so I set out to do it finally. Ok Japan is also a badass place to visit.... that's just a fringe benefit.

*ducks into an Akiba anime/manga superstore*

I brought just a mechanical pencil and a sketch book with me (well and my tablet, but I can't actually do anything but CG with that), so I won't be able to produce anything high quality for a while... but when time permits I might do interesting things... things I've not done before.

Meh who am I kidding, I'm too much of a one track mind for that. Bring on the cute plump girls! ;)

Well if any of you folks do happen to be in Japan and want to say hi, feel free to drop me a line. I won't be here forever, but I do like meeting folks in person from time to time.

Cheers,

xyxtlin

"Xyx? Where have you been?!"

Well I've been asked that by a few people so I feel like I ought to respond.

Ok so I went to Sakuracon a few weekends back... took no pictures, drew nothing and generally had a good time staying up 48 consecutive hours (whoops!). I also bought a few mangas and a game I really didn't need (all in Japanese and its not really helping me learn, lol).

Well after that ended I had to move, and had to do a bunch of packing... and I've also been getting ready for a Japanese class I've been wanting to take.

So yes I have been quite busy.

I won't have access to scanner for a bit, but I might try using a digital camera for capturing... assuming I can make the time to draw anytime soon.

Ah well, I'll try to keep you folks updated as to why I've been not drawing lately... and I'll try to get at least one drawing out in the next month or so.

...I've had Belldandy in my sights for a bit... but no promises on being able to draw her.

</rambling>

Ok, I'm going now.

~xyxtlin
Today a good friend of 10 years was lost forever. He was by my side with every drawing of the last several years, including every online piece I've produced.

Always faithful, always at the ready, and stood strong though the good and the lean... and I have to admit I wasn't as kind as I should have been..

All this fuss is over my favorite pencil. A 5mm papermate Titanium. With it I drew almost everything I've produced online up to this point and today the plastic bit inside the head snapped off in the midst of a sketch.

Forever gone but it will not be forgotten. Thanks for everything my favorite pencil.

*opens a new one*

*stands wistful in the wind for a moment... and then starts drawing again*

He'd want it this way.

~xyxtlin
Hey folks, just a note that I'll be at sakuracon 2008 this year. I won't be there as an official artist or anything (no booth) but I plan to bring a sketchpad and my nametag will have xyxtlin on it.

I might even be convinced to draw on the spot request art for folks who have the nerve to ask.

In person application only of course ;)

See you folks there!

~xyxtlin
Ok folks, I know I haven't had any art lately but I've been pretty busy. I'm going to try to have some pretty soon if I can manage it.

To those who notice that I'm absent from chat/the channel this weekend, its because I'm heading off to visit a friend in Colorado. While I'm at it I'll also be dropping by Nan Desu Kan (the local anime convention).

I'll be back in Monday, and hopefully I'll have some new sketches then.

Cheers

~xyxtlin

p.s. I am still working on that furry project, so don't worry its not dead. I might also have some anime sketches if I can manage it though.

Featuring Timmy Z!

Timmy Z :icontimmy-z: now has his own DA page where he's posting line work of mine that he's CG'd.

He's posted some of the works he had me post here, along with some new CG's not yet seen.

Check him out!

Where's mah furry?

Sat Jun 9, 2007, 3:45 PM
Anyone who has been through my gallery very far has probably noticed that there are a number of genres I play across. Though lately most of what I've done has been anime style, I have dabbled a bit in anthro as well.

In fact, some of the longest sequences have been in furry style.

It has been a while since I've visited upon any of my own furry characters. Actually, nearly everything I've been doing has been one kind of fanart or another.

Well, I intend to change that in the near future. I've got some new original material in the works, and it may be a while, but I intend that to be my next finished piece.

In this spirit I will likely miss my anniversary update. I will endeavor to make what I create worth the wait though.

Thanks for your patience.

This doesn't mean I won't be doing anything new between now and then, but that most of it will probably be scrap material.

I've put up a new poll in the spirit of things, take a look if you're bored.

Well, back to work...

Cheers,

~xyxtlin

Akane for the win

Fri Jun 1, 2007, 11:27 PM
Ever tried looking at your gallery for what comes up for the most favs?

I did just that recently, and I found that Akane Aikawa finally managed to push the previous unstoppable champion (that fugly old Aeris pic) to become top dog in my gallery.

I also find it highly amusing that she comes up top hit on DA's search engine for "Akane Aikawa" as well as #3 on the search for just "Akane".

As a footnote, all three of the top Akane pics involve people in bed... guess that says something deeper about DA. ;)

I wonder what people think when they're looking for pics of Akane from Ranma 1/2 and find my fattened Aikawa...

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

~xyxtlin
Yeah I know its "Xyxtlin day 2007" (24th) but I just haven't had any time to draw any pics lately. I'll try to do some more stuff when I get more time in the near future.

Cheers,

~xyxtlin
